Chapter 113: Chapter 113 Loyalty Is Meaningless If It Is Not Absolute

There’s no such thing as a perfect rule in this world, not even a demon’s contract is without its loopholes.

"Since you mentioned ’unconditionally,’ I take it that I can borrow one hundred thousand US dollars from any bank without presenting any identification, and that shouldn’t be a problem, right?"

But Li Mumu’s plans didn’t end there.

She took out Zhang Zhaoyang’s business card and handed it to the front desk manager, "Please use this gentleman’s name to sign the contract and issue a check redeemable at Xingguo Bank."

The manager was about to cry.

Was this a request a person could make? Why didn’t you just rob us directly? Is it because you don’t like the smell of gunpowder?

"This... I’m really sorry, but I need to check with the leadership. Also, if you don’t mind me asking, how many years do you plan on... "

"May first!"

"I mean, do you want to repay it over five or ten years..."

"This year’s May first."

The manager subconsciously turned to glance at the calendar hanging on the wall: "Today is already April 28th."

"Right, exactly, in the next couple of days. We urgently need the money."

Li Mumu nodded vigorously, with a sweet smile on her face, "We have other matters to attend to and are quite pressed for time. If this is inconvenient for you, please return the badge to us, and we will inquire at the next bank."

"No, no, no, please be patient, I’ll be right back."

"Forget it, let’s go."

Li Mumu withdrew the business card from the manager’s hand and, with Wendy, turned around to leave.

"Please wait a moment!"

Seeing them about to leave, the manager quickly signaled the security guards at the door, who with hands on their gun holsters, stood to block the entrance, one on the left and one on the right.

"It seems they’ve taken us for con artists."

Wendy sighed, "I said it, our family’s old crest was never that magical."

In other words, the information in the notebook was not true.

"Please wait a moment, ladies."

The manager hurried over with an apologetic smile, "In principle, of course I can process this transaction for you both, but please also understand the difficulty of the bank staff. In our bank, different transactions require different processes, and..."

Before he could finish, Li Mumu had already taken a potion bottle out of her pocket and thrown it.

With a bang, the smoke spread out, and an unbearable stench instantly diffused in all directions. Everyone nearby who smelled the stench involuntarily bent over and began to vomit.

Meanwhile, Li Mumu and Wendy, who had already put on masks in advance, took advantage of the chaos to slip past the security guards and out of the bank.

"Useless trash!"

As they passed by a roadside trash can, Li Mumu casually threw the notebook into it.

A philosopher once said, loyalty that isn’t absolute is absolutely not loyalty.

If one could be sure the information shown was correct, it might be worth keeping for reference.

But since a mistake was discovered on the first try, there was no need to waste time and emotion discerning the truth of the other information.

Although Wendy said this was a farewell gift prepared for her, Li Mumu didn’t feel sorry at all.

She was really busy.

After leaving the bank, the two of them took a carriage to the Hall of Peace.

Wendy didn’t plan to go in; she felt that this place didn’t welcome her.

Li Mumu, on the other hand, didn’t feel this way, probably because she was Chinese, and faced no obstruction entering the temple.

The Temple Priest who sold her the peace charm was cleaning up the incense ash and smiled faintly at Li Mumu when she came in.

"Grandma, are you available now? I have some questions and would like to seek your advice."

Li Mumu decided to tell the truth.

The Old Temple Priest did not show any surprise, and seeing that there were no other people around, she pointed to the meditation cushion in front of the incense table and said with a smile, "Sit down and talk."

Right in front of the meditation cushion was the placard of the Guiding Bodhisattva; Li Mumu was about to sit on it with a plop, but then felt it would be disrespectful.

She might be an atheist, but for an entity that could ascend someone’s entire family to heaven just with a glance, she still sought to offer the most basic respect.

So, in the end, she knelt and sat down obediently.

The Old Temple Priest poured the incense ash into a dark basin and sat down on a cushion next to Li Mumu, her face displaying a kind and gentle smile.

"The Guiding Lady came to me in a dream last night and has already told me that you would come today. She also asked me to tell you that you were only acting as her eyes, witnessing a judgement. The other matters are not your concern, so don’t fret over them."

You make it sound so easy...

But this Bodhisattva seemed quite in touch with human nature, not like a high and mighty immortal.

Probing, Li Mumu asked, "Grandma, I didn’t have much understanding about Bodhisattvas before. Is the Netherworld Angel Anhelica, mentioned by the foreigners, the same as the Guiding Bodhisattva? The Bodhisattva we worship, where is she from exactly?"

The Old Temple Priest replied with a smile, "The immortals that we Chinese people worship are naturally from among the Chinese People. As for Anhelica, it’s merely a translation into English of the worldly name of our Guiding Lady, which is the term Angelica. Translated into Chinese, it’s a type of herb called Angelica. A child as big as you might not have even heard of it."

"For the foreigners to call her Netherworld Angel Anhelica is also correct. According to the New Testament in the Bible, Archangel Gabriel bestowed this miraculous herb upon mortals, which could cure many common ailments including rheumatic pains, and therefore, ancient Europeans referred to this herb as Angel’s Herb, which is Anhelica."

So there’s such a deep origin...

Li Mumu unconsciously nodded her head and then asked, "That said, Grandma, do you know what’s with my eyes? Why do people say I am a Follower of the Netherworld Angel? I don’t even know what I did to catch the attention of the Bodhisattva so confusedly..."

"It’s not that the Bodhisattva noticed your eyes, it’s that your eyes have witnessed the sins hiding beneath the appearance of peace and tranquility."

"My eyes?"

Li Mumu was puzzled; what was so special about my eyes?

Seeing her look of confusion, the Old Temple Priest turned around and fetched a thread-bound book from the side, with the title "The Sutra of Guiding the Deceased to the Afterlife" written on the cover.

"I know there are many questions in your heart. This scripture was personally written by the Guiding Lady, and the answers to your questions can be found in here," she said.

Li Mumu reached out to take it, gave a light pull but it didn’t move.

"Twenty US Dollars, thank you for your patronage."

"... Why don’t you just rob me?"

The Old Temple Priest smiled and said, "In the past, when Tang Xuanzang went to the Western Heaven to seek the true scripture, Tathagata Buddha said to those around him that if he came empty-handed to seek my scripture, it would not reflect the preciousness of my Dharma Gate teachings and would eventually lead people to underestimate. A scripture personally compiled by our Guiding Lady, containing the great truths of heaven and earth, with boundless mystery, doesn’t it worth twenty US Dollars?"

Li Mumu didn’t fall for it this time and countered on the spot, "In the eyes of others, I am a Follower of the Netherworld Angel, and every word and deed of mine represents the will of the Bodhisattva. If I haven’t even read the book written by the Bodhisattva and cause a scandal outside, bringing shame to the Bodhisattva, could it be compensated with twenty US Dollars?"
