Love at First Sight? Mr. Harrison Has Been Scheming All Along-Chapter 252: Leo’s Birthday Gift
"I just went up. The nurse said she isn’t in the room we arranged. I asked around about you and found out you should be getting off work soon, so I waited for you here."
Sean Harrison briefly recounted his recent movements.
He was merely fulfilling his duty as a son to Charlotte Rhodes.
The main reason, however, was to use this as an excuse to see Rory Linden.
But he hadn’t expected Charlotte Rhodes to not be in a deluxe private room.
"You... you probably shouldn’t go up." Rory Linden pursed her lips. "Auntie Rhodes is about to have surgery. Her emotional state is the top priority. We can talk about other things after the operation is over."
"Okay, I’ll listen to you."
Sean Harrison readily agreed.
Even so, Rory Linden was still uneasy. "You can just come on the day of the surgery. There’s no need to come any other time. In any case, Evan Hollis is taking good care of her for now."
"Mm, I heard Evan Hollis paid the deposit this time, too."
"...Evan Hollis paid for that, too?!" Rory Linden was in disbelief. "A fee of nearly a million, and he can afford it?!"
Currently, there were several types of mechanical hearts available in the country.
Developed by different companies, their prices naturally varied.
Based on Charlotte Rhodes’s condition, the hospital had recommended the latest generation of mechanical hearts.
It was quite costly.
Rory Linden suddenly felt that Evan Hollis was like a black hole.
’He doesn’t look like he has much money, yet he seems to be able to produce any amount.’
"Mm, the police are almost done with their investigation into his case. Let’s wait until my mother’s surgery is over, then the police will make a direct arrest."
Sean Harrison vaguely revealed some information.
Rory Linden didn’t know what Evan Hollis had done, nor was it her business to care.
"Right, Auntie Rhodes is in a double room now, and the nurses are monitoring everything she eats. Evan Hollis can’t do anything."
Rory Linden added, trying to reassure the man.
Sean Harrison acknowledged her. "By the way, it’s Leo’s birthday in a few days, right? I know you must have other plans, but I’ve prepared a gift for him. I hope you can accept it on his behalf."
"..."
Rory Linden instinctively wanted to refuse.
But she felt she had no right to refuse a gift on Leo’s behalf.
She followed Sean Harrison to his car.
The man took out a box and handed it to Rory Linden. "This is a new robot dog our company developed. It’s not on the market yet. This one is for Leo."
"A robot dog?"
Rory Linden was surprised.
"Yes, it’s a pet dog with a companionship mode. There’s a detailed video instruction manual that I’ve copied onto a USB drive. You can watch it when you get home."
Sean Harrison placed the USB drive on top of the box.
Rory Linden was sure Leo Linden would love this gift.
Just as she accepted the box, the man handed her something else.
"This is four percent of Stellar Group’s shares. I’m gifting them to Leo. Since he’s young, you’ll act as the custodian. Once he turns twenty, it will be up to you whether to transfer them to him."
Sean Harrison directly explained the second gift.
Four percent of the shares!
That might not sound like a lot, but for an ordinary person, it was an astronomical sum.
Stellar Group’s market value was substantial.
With these shares, even if one did nothing, the annual dividends alone would be enough for an average person to live on for a lifetime.
Rory Linden refused immediately. "I can’t accept this. Why don’t you wait until Leo is twenty and give it to him yourself?"
"He’ll get a twentieth birthday gift when he turns twenty."
Sean Harrison had already adjusted his mindset.
’Even if we don’t get back together, even if Leo Linden really has another father someday...’
He was still determined to be a good father.
He was the one who had been so resolute back then; there were some consequences he simply had to bear.
"Let’s just save up these kinds of gifts. When Leo turns twenty, if you still want to give them to him, you can give them to him then."
Rory Linden politely refused the gift.
Her income was good now, and her life was comfortable.
She didn’t want to get entangled with a man over money and be dragged into emotional turmoil.
Besides...
For an ordinary person, suddenly possessing a sum of money beyond one’s control wasn’t necessarily a good thing.
Rory Linden hugged the robot dog to her chest. "President Harrison, I’m heading home now. Thank you for Leo’s gift. I’ll make sure he gets it."
The woman’s refusal was firm.
Sean Harrison could only take the item back for now.
-
Leo Linden’s birthday was August 8th.
That day was a Wednesday.
To give her son a full day of happiness, Rory Linden and Sherry Walsh decided to start the celebration three days early, fulfilling the first part of their birthday promise.
On Sunday, Rory Linden woke up early. While she was still having breakfast with Leo, Sherry Walsh arrived.
"Why are you here so early?"
Rory Linden was a little surprised.
Sherry Walsh was the type to complain even when she had a morning court session, yet today she had arrived at her place a little after eight.
"It’s my godson’s birthday! Of course I’m going to come early!"
Sherry Walsh put the box she was holding on the floor. "Leo, this is a gift from your godmother. It’s a drone. I don’t really know how to use it, so you can have your mom teach you."
"Thank you, Godmother!"
Leo’s short legs hit the floor, and he rushed over to Sherry Walsh to give her a big hug.
Rory Linden then said, "You spoil him every year."
Sherry Walsh gave Leo a gift every year for his birthday.
It was just that in previous years, knowing Rory Linden was tight on money, she had always given more practical gifts.
This year, with Rory Linden back in the country and doing better financially, she had chosen something Leo might actually like.
"Hey, it’s my godson’s birthday. It’s perfectly normal to give him a little gift." Sherry Walsh sidled up to the dining table. "I haven’t eaten yet, so I’ll just mooch some breakfast off you guys."
The three of them left after finishing breakfast together.
Sherry Walsh had driven.
Since her car wasn’t registered with the residential community, she could only park it at the entrance.
The plan for the day was to take Leo to the aquarium.
It was just past nine when the three of them got into the elevator together.
The elevator had just descended two floors when it stopped.
As the elevator doors slowly slid open, two men stood outside—both were familiar faces.
Ryan Sterling and Noah Sterling.
The two of them seemed to have been arguing.
When the elevator doors opened, Ryan Sterling turned his face away, looking like someone owed him a million dollars.
Noah Sterling, on the other hand, was expressionless.
"Ms. Rory? Leo?"
When Ryan Sterling saw them, his gloomy expression instantly brightened, a natural smile appearing on his face.
Noah Sterling’s gaze first fell on Sherry Walsh, and he couldn’t help but furrow his brow. "Sherry Walsh?"
Previously, at Henry Lancaster’s wedding, Sherry Walsh and Noah Sterling had pretended to be a couple.
They hadn’t seen each other since the wedding.
Now, seeing Noah Sterling, Sherry Walsh just felt awkward.
She recognized who Ryan Sterling was at a glance!
But with Noah Sterling present, she didn’t say anything right away.
"Mr. Sterling!" Leo raised his small, chubby hand and waved at Ryan Sterling. "It’s my birthday! Mommy and Godmother are taking me to the aquarium."
"Is your birthday today?"
Ryan Sterling knew Leo’s birthday; he had even marked it on his calendar.
Hearing this, his first reaction was that he had gotten the date wrong.
Rory Linden explained, "His birthday is next Wednesday. Since I have the day off today, we’re taking him to the aquarium first."
Ryan Sterling opened his mouth, not yet sure how to express his thoughts.
Leo spoke up and asked him, "Mr. Sterling, do you want to come to the aquarium with us?"
