Chapter 48: Emiris the Immortal. (1)

Diana hadn’t had it easy getting to where she was.

Being a captain of an inspector team was already a difficult feat to achieve.

However, it was even harder knowing she was a faun, a fairy.

Until recently she had been considered an inferior race by the Vanir, in fact, there were still many who considered it so.

However, she had worked very hard to get to where she was, ignoring derogatory comments toward her simply to reach that position.

And in the end she made it.

To be an inspector.

Her goal wasn’t only to inspect temples on behalf of the holy ministry, but also to end that discrimination of the Vanir toward other races.

Therefore, when she saw how that semi-beast child was mistreated by some templars, she couldn’t help but feel her blood boiling.

But her anger grew more when she found out there were people experimenting on demon children.

Diana never let herself be controlled by her emotions, she always tried to seem as professional and analytical as possible.

But she had her limit.

A limit which she reached when while going to inspect the supposed clandestine laboratory she encountered a man mistreating a child.

"Tch, just what was missing," Emiris said as he dropped his son on the ground, and turned to see the newcomers. "Are you from the temple? There’s nothing to see here, go back to the hole you came from."

Diana gritted her teeth, that man’s attitude wasn’t helping her control herself.

"We’re inspectors, we have authority to investigate any corner of Caelestia if necessary," the woman responded firmly. "Now, you’re going to have to answer some questions while my team attends to those young men."

The woman said, as she made a gesture with her hand.

Two men in robes approached the two boys on the ground, but Emiris didn’t let them act.

"[Stay still]," the man ordered, imposing his will on the priests, who froze.

Diana took a step forward, completely losing patience at Emiris’s arrogance.

"How dare you use heka against priests? Damn it, you’re digging your own grave!" she exclaimed.

Emiris shrugged, he didn’t seem intimidated at all.

But he did seem annoyed.

"Did they really put a dirty xeno like you as captain of the inspectors? How pathetic," the man said sarcastically. "Fool, don’t you know who I am? I’m Emiris, heir to the Agneyastra, my family is too important for a simple fairy to have authority over me."

Diana swallowed hard, as expected that man was a noble, the greatest scum of society.

She knew that if she acted rashly she could get into trouble, so she couldn’t let herself be controlled by her anger.

"What you’re saying is heresy, my race doesn’t matter, I’m an extension of the holy ministry, my words have more authority than any noble, now stop interrupting and do what you’re ordered," Diana answered firmly.

Emiris simply rolled his eyes.

"Of course, the foolish religious always try to steal the place that belongs to us nobles," the man complained. "Bastards! All of you are nothing but lying bastards! That the holy ministry has more authority than a noble? And who decided that?"

The woman looked at the man incredulously, as the wind tried unsuccessfully to mess up her green hair, which was styled in the shape of a bush.

"What are you talking about? The holy ministry represents the authority of the gods and Od’Zohar! Our savior, how can you—" 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

But she couldn’t continue, Emiris continued his speech interrupting hers.

"Fallacies, simple fallacies. It’s a stupid deception, do you know what a Devastra is?" the man asked the woman with irritation.

Diana hesitated a bit, everyone knew what a Devastra was, however, she still answered.

"A gift from the heav—"

"Wrong!" the man interrupted again, with notable anger in his voice. "The Devastra aren’t any gift! They’re not something inherited from a god, but quite the opposite, they’re weapons capable of killing a god!"

Emiris still remembered those days, when his weakness was still a burden, when his heart was full of desire for revenge.

However, at that moment he appeared, Epimetheus, his teacher.

He taught him the truth about the Vanir and the Devastra, he gave him immense knowledge and power.

"The Vanir are a superior race! We’re the people who surpassed the gods!" Emiris exclaimed, almost in a profane ovation. "But the holy ministry... oh that group of clowns made us weak! They lied to us all!"

Diana’s face changed at that instant, that man was much worse than she thought.

He wasn’t simply an arrogant noble, he was someone who had lost his sanity.

"They impose rules and force us to pray to a false god, nonsense! What we should do is research! Explore how to evolve this power," that man affirmed, as he clenched his fist.

Emiris had always sought to gain power, but the only way to get revenge was to perform profane arts.

That’s why Epimetheus’s words had been the perfect excuse to break the rules and ethics they had instilled in him.

After all, in that world only power mattered.

"I see, so you’re the one who was behind all those disappearances, right?" Diana asked seriously, though knowing the truth deep down.

Emiris’s lips twisted into a macabre smile.

"So what? The life of any xeno is insignificant compared to the power to evolve to a superior state!" the man affirmed.

Diana sighed, as she took a mace shaped like a ram’s head and a golden shield.

"Emiris, you are under arrest in the name of the holy ministry and the grace of Od’Zohar, any resistance will be taken as a serious violation of holy laws and serious reprisals will be taken against you," the woman began to say seriously.

But Emiris didn’t seem scared at all, nor did he feel like cooperating.

With a gesture, he touched the two priests who were beside him, still paralyzed by his order.

Before Diana could say anything, green flames enveloped their bodies.

The flames that normally could only heal, in an instant made the priests’ bodies explode.

Emiris looked at Diana with arrogance.

"I suppose it doesn’t matter if I kill a few more xenos."
