Dragun never expected that the casual knocking on the door would actually lead to such a scary revelation. He never expected to be greeted with what he feared the most the moment the door creaked open, he could only stand and watch with a dumbfounded expression that slowly transformed to that of horror.

Riela had the same reaction — she was hoping it would be Rowan when the knock first sounded, but the door revealed scary and evil looking men dressed in black robes with faces housing expression that revealed hate and bloodlust.

Her heart skipped a beat as the sky lit up with lightning, revealing even more ominous figures standing outside. She could not count them, but it was clear there were at least ten.

Not just their outward appearance, even their magical auras revealed how scary they were. Both Dragun and Riela felt the immense magical power radiating from them.

"Vishirk?? How?? Dragun muttered slowly with a scared expression.

He never expected the scrawny little Vishirk to be this powerful and not even in his weirdest dream had he imagined him being a member of the cult of ember justice.

Vishirk, or Xandros, scoffed hatefully and took a step inside the room, he was still using the face of Vishirk so Dragun and Riela are still unaware of his real identity . The men behind him also took steps forward but didn’t step inside the room, their eyes glowed menacingly in the dark night.

Dragun and Riela took a few steps back fearfully. Both of them, still trying to grasp the current situation.

"I have waited a long time for this day. I’ll definitely enjoy every moment of it," Xandros chuckled, lifting a hand to his hair.

Dragun and Riela watched as he pulled down the realistic mask of Vishirk’s face, revealing his true identity beneath.

Short white hair, cold blue eyes, and a hateful expression—Dragun recognized the face instantly.

"XANDROS!" Dragun screamed.

His face contorted into an expression of horror and disbelief as he recognized the man before him. His heart skipped several beats, his breath became ragged, and his strength ebbed away under the weight of paralyzing fear.

Riela stood behind him, overwhelmed with confusion, surprise, curiosity, and terror as the scene unfolded. When the mask fell away and revealed Xandros’s true identity, she was profoundly shocked—she never imagined a mask could perform such realistic feats.

Also, Judging from Dragun’s reaction, she could tell he knew this evil man before now but she could only wonder how bad their relationship was for Dragun to react as such.

However, while her mind tried to grasp the situation, she didn’t hide her fear.

Her figure shivered uncontrollably and her eyes slowly watered. She silently prayed that Rowan would appear and take care of the current situation.

Xandros strolled to the bed and sat down.

Dragun watched all these while shivering and pondering how to get out of the situation.

He escaped the cult for his life and now he had endangered the life of the people of Winterseed by dragging the cult here.

He had served the cult in the past and understood their brutal nature. Their presence in any territory means its end.

At least 90% of the territory they have visited were either slaughtered and looted, or become the testing ground any new disease spell they had developed.

The cult of ember justice is the absolute incarnation of evil.

No matter how Dragun had imagined the current situation, it always ended with the people of Winterseed slaughtered and their territory burned to the ground.

With no other options, he fell on his knee as tears began dripping from his eyes.

"I have sinned against the cult and deserve to be punished," he pleaded, voice breaking. "But please spare these people, they are innocent. Take me instead. Please, I beg you."

Nevertheless the more he pleaded, the more a menacing smirk spread across Xandros’s face. He reveled in Dragun’s misery.

"Spare your people? You’ve been with the cult far too long to be unaware of what we do in situations like these, Even if the cult doesn’t mark this territory for destruction, I would still bring it to the ground. Why? Because I can and I want to see you watch everyone you care about burn." He grinned hatefully as he spoke.

Hearing his sinister plans, Riela body went weak and she fell on the ground.

Dragun’s reaction was almost the same, he felt his world crumbling right before him.

Xandros withdrew his eyes from Dragun and placed them on Riela, he observed her mana core and noticed that she had just broken through the second level of the apprentice realm.

"While I loathe you, Dragun, I can’t help but admire your teaching abilities," He chuckled and said to Dragun while eyeing Riela, "You’ve done a great job with Riela, you’ve helped the cult in ways you could never understand. Now I understand why Alister decided to spare you."

Dragun eyes widened, "W-what do you plan to do with her?"

"Why should I tell you? You are nothing but a man nearing his death, acquiring information at a time like this is as useless as music to a deaf person," Xandros scoffed.

"Or wait a minute, if you know my intention with her, it would cause you more pain than watching the other villagers burn because you have a stronger connection with her, haha, how could I forget this?"

Xandro’s evil laugh spread across the room.

He laughed for a few minutes before his expression turned serious as he gave the answer.

"T-the dark seed ritual..." Dragun stuttered.

"But the cult annulled this ritual!!" He continued.

Xandros laughed at Dragun before explaining how Alister had prepared the rumours of the ritual ending to prevent lower ranked members like Dragun from spreading it.

When Dragun heard this, he became even more horrified.

He looked back at Riela, who was still shivering behind him.

"W-what is he t-talking about? Am I going to die?" she asked in a shaky voice.

Seeing her like that broke Dragun’s heart even more. He wished he could help her, but he was powerless.

The weakest mage among the group outside could tear him apart in minutes. Against someone like Xandros, he had no chance of surviving even two seconds.
