Chapter 71: The Market Adventure

If Yongbeom had been a tiger, Dohwi would have cast him out immediately.

“You’re amazing at hunting! Deer, goats, nothing can stand up to you! You’re the best, Father!”

But seeing the cute face rubbing against his leg, he couldn’t help but think of Sohwa, which prevented him from being harsh against him.

“I’ve caught one.”

Thankfully, his second son, Hwibeom, was mature. Despite his bright silver fur, inherited from Sohwa, making him highly visible and disadvantaged in hunting, Hwibeom had never failed.

“Is that the one you had your eye on?”

“Yes, father.”

Seeing him bring back the first deer he targeted reminded Dohwi of himself as a child.

“Well done. Never lose sight of your target.”

“Yes, I will remember that.”

After praising Hwibeom, Dohwi lifted the silver fox perched on his shoulder. Yongbeom blinked innocently as Dohwi held him by the scruff of his neck.

“Yongbeom, can’t you even catch a sparrow?”

“How can I catch a creature with wings, father?”

Dohwi felt despair.

Was this really his child? He was an incredibly adorable silver fox, but even so, how could it be that all he could do was act cute....

“I will share my prey with my brother, father. Please let him down.”

Hwibeom looked at his brother’s flailing his front paws in midair with pity and tried to persuade Dohwi.

Thankfully, the younger one wasn’t greedy.

The compassionate Hwibeom, now in his human form, walked alongside Dohwi. The silver fox, as if it were his rightful place, perched atop Hwibeom’s head. Dohwi sighed deeply at the sight.

“Yongbeom.”

Yongbeom knew just how to use his cuteness to his advantage.

“You should get used to being in your human form, too.”

“But I’m more comfortable like this. Mother always said comfort is the best!”

“....”

Mentioning his mother always ended the scolding.

Yongbeom was indeed more cunning than his younger brother.

“After breakfast, I’m taking your mother to the marketplace.”

“The marketplace?”

“Father! Can we come too...!”

Both brothers perked up their ears, but Dohwi sternly shook his head.

“No, you two are not coming.”

“...Understood, father.”

“Aww.”

The marketplace was filled with delicious food. But that was not all. There were various sights to see that one could never find in the mountains.

“But please....”

Yongbeom looked at Dohwi with a pleading gaze, trying to be as cute as possible, but Dohwi firmly shook his head.

“Absolutely not.”

Every time Dohwi tried to take Sohwa on a picnic, Yongbeom would secretly follow with his brother, ruining their outing.

Dohwi shot a fierce look at Yongbeom, making it clear what would happen if he didn’t listen. Yongbeom’s ears, which had been perked up, drooped immediately.

Feeling sorry for his scared brother, Hwibeom quickly scooped up and tucked him under his arm, whispering,

“Brother, why don’t we play tuho (*a traditional Korean game in which players throw arrows into a narrow jar) for a change? I’ve gotten quite good at it.”

“....”

“Please? I’m feeling quite bored.”

“Well, if you insist, I shall play with you!”

“Thank you, brother.”

After ensuring the children were occupied, Dohwi served them a hearty breakfast and quickly grabbed Sohwa’s hand to lead her out of the palace.

* * *

The bad habit of Yongbeom perching on others’ heads must have been inherited from his mother.

Due to the considerable distance to the marketplace, Sohwa enjoyed the luxury of riding on Dohwi’s head, who had transformed into a tiger.

At the entrance of the human village, Dohwi transformed back into a human, but Sohwa shook her head.

“When I’m among people, they won’t stop talking to me. It’s exhausting to respond.”

With her porcelain fair face, red lips, and sparkling big eyes, Sohwa was exceptionally beautiful that she always drew the attention of all the men around.

“I’ll just stay in your arms.”

Jumping into Dohwi’s arms, Sohwa crawled under his robe and peeked her head out over his white collar.

“How about this?”

Dohwi chuckled softly, tickled by Sohwa’s soft ears brushing against his neck.

“No one will know whether I’m a silver fox or a puppy.”

“Right, no one will know.”

Kissing Sohwa’s lovely eyes, Dohwi supported her bottom.

“Let’s go. I’m ready to go on an ADVENTURE!”

Just as she said, once they entered the bustling marketplace, Sohwa was completely captivated.

People passing by couldn’t help but smile warmly at the sight of Sohwa in Dohwi’s arms.

“Aww... How cute....”

If Dohwi hadn’t looked as stern as an underworld gatekeeper, they might have lined up to pet her.

Unaware of this, Sohwa kept turning her head left and right, her silky fur tickling Dohwi’s neck.

“Stop moving. You’re making me want to bite you.”

“No way!”

Dohwi had often playfully nibbled on Sohwa in his human form. It was just a game, never with teeth, but Sohwa, driven by instinct, still feared it, retracting her head like a turtle.
