Living with the Dangerous Beast-Chapter 10: A Wildcat or a Tiger
Chapter 10: A Wildcat or a Tiger
Rolling up her sleeves, she dug under the cherry tree, and to her surprise, found a large animal skull buried there.
Shocked, she tossed the mystery skull aside and continued digging, uncovering another similar skull.
Wondering what kind of bones these were, she tried to make a guess based on the horns attached to the edges of the skull.
‘A roe deer?’
Unable to distinguish between a deer and a roe deer, Sohwa was puzzled as to why so many bones were buried in her yard.
Could Dohwi really be a tiger? Did he hunt at night and bury the leftover bones here?
‘Then why have I never smelled anything?’
Even if her sense of smell was dull compared to other foxes, it was strange not to notice the scent of a tiger or the bones of herbivores.
As a fox who always had to be aware of the presence of nearby danger, her instinct to detect the scent of predators was supposed to be keenest, at least in theory.
And even despite having lived with Dohwi for a long time, she should have recognized the scent of a young predator in his prime.
Besides, Sohwa knew Dohwi’s scent very well.
It was like the sharp, refreshing smell of pine bark. Dohwi had always smelled like that since he was young.
Animals of the canine family, like Sohwa, relied as much on the information they received through their noses as what they saw with their eyes.
‘Dohwi definitely isn’t a tiger.’
He fetched water when asked, prepared meals when she was hungry, massaged her shoulders when she was tired, washed her feet, did the laundry, and even cleaned up the house.
How could such a kind and gentle tiger exist in this world?
How could such a loyal servant, who followed her orders like an extension of herself, actually be a TIGER?
Also, why would a tiger, who should be ruling over these mountains like a king ruling his own empire, be content with serving a mere fox like an errand boy?
‘Could he be fattening me so he could eventually eat me up?’
Considering how he constantly nagged her to eat more, it was a scenario that made sense.
As she pondered, a familiar sound emerged from beyond the mist.
Yip, yip!
The hidden fox ears perked up as the desperate cry echoed throughout the quiet mountains.
‘A fox. It must be!’
Was there another fox on Mount Yeehwang besides her?
Judging by the pitch, it was definitely a male. Half happy, half curious, she focused her senses.
Yip, yip, yap, yap!
A short cry followed, this time sounding like it was in distress.
After a few seconds, the cries ceased, and the mountain returned to its usual silence.
The fox was dead.
That realization made Sohwa’s fingers tremble in sheer horror.
What vile creature could have chased and killed a fox, causing it to scream so horribly in this usually peaceful mountain that is normally filled with the joyful sounds of animals playing and running around?
Lost in thought, Sohwa saw the night fog creeping over the moon, causing her to finally snap back to reality.
‘I need to bury the bones back where they were before Dohwi returns.’
Sohwa hurriedly covered the deer bones. She needed to make sure there was no signs of her digging it out.
As she stomped down the earth, she heard a distant sound. It was faint, but Sohwa, with her keen fox ears, could clearly hear it.
It was the sound of a large predator’s heavy paws thudding against the ground.
It was so agile that it was also accompanied with the sound of wind.
Oblivious to the state of her flower shoes turning into a mess, which was also a gift from Dohwi, she frantically stomped the ground in panic.
As the sound grew closer, she rushed back to her room.
Creak.
A four-legged beast had entered through the gate. Sitting with her back to the door, Sohwa’s heart pounded loudly, worrying that the sound of her heart might be heard outside.
‘It’s in my yard.’
After much deliberation, Sohwa cautiously peeked through the hole she had made in the paper door.
What she saw was Dohwi, completely soaked in some kind of liquid. frёeωebɳovel.com
He was holding something limp in his hand.
Had he gone swimming alone in the middle of the night?
Even his slick black hair was soaked in water, while his white undergarment clung to his body, revealing its contours.
He roughly pushed back his hair, shaking off the water.
Every movement made his muscles ripple in a wild, intense manner.
‘When did he grow so much?’
His face was still as youthful as ever. With his fair and delicate features, he could easily be mistaken for a girl, except for his eyebrows, which had become much more darker.
As he headed towards the guest room, Dohwi suddenly stopped in front of the cherry tree.
Gasp.
Sohwa held her breath, fearing he might have noticed her handiwork.
