Living Only For Myself: Make Those Who Hate Me Regret It-Chapter 70 - 69: "Zhou Mochen, you just threatened me again.
Overwhelmed by the young man’s passion, Xu Su felt a lump in her throat, rendering her speechless. She slowly closed her book, completely unable to read anymore.
After managing to compose herself, Xu Su spoke softly, "He likes me too, Xi Zirong. He’ll only ever like me more than you do, do you understand? As long as I’m willing to like him, he’ll do anything for me."
Xu Su knew in her heart that as long as she was willing to like Zhou Mochen, he would do anything for her, regardless of whether it was in their past life or this one.
Even though their relationship had reached such a state in their past life, Xu Su had never denied Zhou Mochen’s feelings for her.
When it came to loving Xu Su, how could Zhou Mochen possibly lose?
Xu Su closed her eyes and sighed. "Xi Zirong, I’m serious. Stop liking me."
’Stop liking me. Stop being so good to me.’
It wasn’t like Xu Su had a heart of stone. How could she not be moved by the young man’s sincere heart?
But she couldn’t afford to be moved...
She didn’t have much time to wallow in the guilt of having hurt the young man’s sincere heart before another call came in.
This time, it was the other person they had just been talking about... Zhou Mochen...
Xu Su glanced quickly at the time. It was already 11:40. She hadn’t realized she’d been talking to Xi Zirong for so long.
’Don’t tell me Zhou Mochen is already getting a plane ready?’
A sense of urgency gripped Xu Su. Without even saying goodbye to Xi Zirong, she ended their call and answered the incoming call from Zhou Mochen that was cutting in.
A deep voice sounded the next second. "Xu Su, who were you just on the phone with?"
The impending storm in his tone was so palpable that Xu Su could feel his anxiety and anger even through the phone.
Xu Su reacted quickly. "Qian Jia. You met her at the milk tea shop that one time. She said she wants to celebrate New Year’s with me."
The moment she finished speaking, the male voice on the other end pressed her, "You haven’t replied to my messages all day, and you’ve been on the phone with this Qian Jia the whole time? Xu Su, what did you promise me before I left?"
Normally, if Zhou Mochen used this tone with her, Xu Su would have already refused to put up with it. But right now, she felt an inexplicable sense of guilt.
She really didn’t dare let Zhou Mochen know she had just been on the phone with a boy, so Xu Su explained in a placating tone, "I just got home. I went to my grandpa’s early this morning, and Qian Jia called me right after I got back. I didn’t have a chance to reply to your messages."
"Zhou Mochen, can you please not be so fierce?"
Zhou Mochen fell silent on the other end. Just as Xu Su’s heart was pounding with anxiety, she heard him say, "Go back." 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
It clearly wasn’t directed at her, so...?
"Zhou Mochen, you weren’t actually about to fly to Chang City overnight, were you?"
Zhou Mochen stared at the night view of Beijing outside the car window, his eyes revealing a hint of exhaustion. His voice was icy. "Xu Su, take a guess. If you hadn’t answered my call just now, what do you think I would have done once I got to Chang City?"
Xu Su’s hand clenched unconsciously. She didn’t need to guess...
Ever since he met Xu Su, Zhou Mochen had practically gotten used to the constant anxiety and fear of loss that comes with loving someone.
But he never wanted to experience this kind of panic, worry, and tension again.
His face, with its strong, defined lines, was reflected in the car window. Zhou Mochen looked away with a trace of self-loathing. "Don’t lead me on, and don’t give me the cold shoulder. Xu Su, you can fight with me, you can throw a fit, whatever you want is fine. But don’t let me be unable to reach you."
’Waiting for a reply all day to the point where you can’t eat or think straight, where you’re completely out of it... You’ve really outdone yourself, Zhou Mochen.’
It even got to the point where he started to worry that something had happened to Xu Su.
Xu Su was silent for a long time, a lingering fear creeping in...
"Say something, Xu Su. Let me hear your voice. I haven’t seen you in three days. Talk to me."
A commanding tone, yet utterly humble words—only Zhou Mochen could say something like that.
The driver in the front seat heard every word. He had served the Zhou family for many years but had never witnessed such a scene. Despite his years of professionalism, he couldn’t help but steal a glance at the rearview mirror out of the corner of his eye.
Xu Su was also a little frightened by the scale of his reaction. She truly hadn’t expected that just one day of not replying to his messages could make him this frantic. The Zhou family had their own private jet; of course he could fly to Chang City overnight...
’If he had actually come....’
"...What do you want me to say, Zhou Mochen? You’re scaring me."
A soft, cold laugh came from the other end of the line. "It’s good that you’re scared, Xu Su. I’ve been spoiling you too much."
It was followed by the sound of a car door opening.
Xu Su figured he must have gotten home. She wondered what he’d told his parents about ditching New Year’s celebrations to prepare for an overnight flight to Chang City.
’Did he tell them the girl he likes hadn’t talked to him all day, so he had to go check on her?’
As Xu Su’s thoughts ran wild, she heard Zhou Mochen’s voice again. "Say my name, Xu Su. I need to hear your voice."
A completely commanding tone.
Xu Su didn’t dare provoke him right now. She had worked so hard to tame this lion and teach him to yield; she couldn’t reawaken his ferocious nature.
So she began to placate him by calling his name, listening to the sounds on his end of the line.
On the other end, Zhou Mochen seemed to be walking.
Xu Su knew the layout of the Zhou family’s home and figured he had probably just entered the main gate. Then, she heard the voices of her father-in-law and mother-in-law from her past life.
Compared to how they would be more than ten years later, Mr. and Mrs. Zhou were only in their fifties now, their voices still full of vigor.
She recalled her past life. The moment she turned twenty, the legal age for marriage registration, Zhou Mochen had said he wanted to marry her. Xu Su, having watched too many TV dramas, had actually hoped his parents would object. Who would have thought that in the end, she would be the one to refuse him?
They didn’t get married until after college graduation, when she could no longer put it off, and the wedding preparations went smoothly from start to finish.
She only found out later that Mr. and Mrs. Zhou had married young but had difficulty conceiving. They didn’t have their son, Zhou Mochen, until they were in their late thirties. They felt that no amount of doting on him was too much, so how could they bear to deny him anything he wanted?
On the other end of the line, Mrs. Zhou seemed overjoyed to see her son, who had been about to fly to Chang City, return home. Mr. Zhou’s voice could be heard intermittently as well.
Xu Su could only hear bits and pieces and couldn’t make out the words clearly. Before long, she heard the distinct sound of a door closing.
It seemed Zhou Mochen had placated his parents and returned to his own room.
Xu Su was still on her end, slowly calling his name.
Zhou Mochen listened on the other end without a word, completely silent.
Finally, feeling that this couldn’t go on, Xu Su spoke up. "Zhou Mochen, I’m sleepy."
After a few seconds of silence, the man said, "Xu Su, there are three minutes left until the New Year. In the last three minutes of 2005, if you say something nice to me, I’ll forgive you for not messaging me back all day and talking on the phone with someone else instead."
"..." ’He sure wishes. Judging by his voice, he’s already calmed down. What’s the point in placating him now?’
Xu Su turned the tables on him. "Zhou Mochen, you just threatened me again."
This time, the silence on the other end lasted even longer. Just as Xu Su watched the time on her phone tick over to 11:58 PM, his voice came through again. "Two minutes left."
