Chapter 123: Chapter 110: Going Back

Isla Prescott ran into Yvette Shaw on her way out of the hospital.

Yvette Shaw greeted her and asked how her talk with Silas Lockwood had gone. Every word hinted at her desire to set them up.

Perhaps in Yvette Shaw’s eyes, Isla Prescott was still the same little girl from all those years ago who had to accept whatever was given to her.

Unfortunately, she was no longer that girl.

Thankfully, after everything they had been through, she and Silas Lockwood could still be honest and open with each other.

And it was thanks to Silas Lockwood that she had been pulled out of the fog of her emotions.

Isla Prescott felt she needed to have another serious talk with Shane Sterling.

When she got home, Isla Prescott sent a message to Justin Wyatt, asking when Shane Sterling would be back in the country.

Justin Wyatt replied quickly: "Young Mr. Shaw won’t be back for another week."

Isla Prescott suppressed a small pang of disappointment and replied, "Okay."

She had just put down her phone when it rang.

Surprisingly, it was Shane Sterling calling.

Isla Prescott looked at the name flashing on her screen. Silas Lockwood’s words—"Sean has liked you for many years"—flashed through her mind, and a strange feeling blossomed in her heart.

It was a feeling she had never had before.

"Hello," Isla Prescott answered the phone.

"You were looking for me?" Shane Sterling’s voice came through, deep and magnetic, but with a clear trace of exhaustion.

"How did you know?"

"Justin Wyatt is right here with me."

Fair enough. Isla had assumed Justin Wyatt hadn’t accompanied Shane Sterling abroad this time, just like the last.

"It’s nothing, I was just wondering when you’ll be back."

"Why didn’t you ask me directly?"

"I was afraid of bothering you."

He was abroad, and with the time difference, Isla Prescott wasn’t sure if he’d be busy with work at this hour, which was why she had messaged Justin Wyatt to ask.

"Why were you asking when I’d be back?" Shane Sterling asked again.

Isla Prescott had many things she wanted to ask Shane Sterling, but it was clearly not appropriate to talk about them over the phone.

"It’s nothing, really. I just thought we could meet up when you get back."

’She’s asking to see me?’

Shane Sterling’s heart fluttered. Even though he knew they had already broken up, he couldn’t resist being a little cheeky: "Do you miss me?"

"I do miss you a little."

After Silas Lockwood’s words had awakened her, Isla Prescott decided she wouldn’t be timid anymore.

And the first step to no longer being timid was to speak her mind.

She remembered that when they first broke up, she had told him she didn’t love him.

But she wasn’t some heartless, ungrateful person. Shane Sterling had been so good to her these past six months; even if she were a stone, she would have been warmed by now.

Saying she didn’t love him was just an excuse to run away.

She also hated how she always said the opposite of what she meant.

From now on, she would never be like that again. Regardless of whether they ended up together or not, she decided to first be true to her own heart.

Shane Sterling pulled the phone away from his ear and stared at the name on the screen. It was Isla Prescott, all right.

"What’s wrong?" His nerves tightened unconsciously. He felt that Isla Prescott was acting very strange today. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and he suspected that something bad had happened to her.

"Nothing’s wrong."

"Really? Nothing?"

"Really, nothing’s wrong." Isla Prescott heard someone on the other end of the line mumbling something in English and quickly added, "Let’s talk when you get back. I won’t disturb you any longer. Get back to your work. Bye."

Isla Prescott hung up the phone.

Shane Sterling sat in his office at Sterling Group’s Brigantia headquarters. As he watched the screen go dark, his heart felt like it had been wrung out.

The marketing manager for the Brigantia office placed a document in front of him, asking for his approval, but Shane Sterling seemed not to have heard.

"Justin, book a flight back home. The sooner, the better."

"We’re going back? But we still have a week left on the schedule here..."

"We’re going back."

Just last week, Shane Sterling and Victor Sterling had a major falling-out at a board meeting. Victor Sterling had become fully aware of Shane’s ambition to bypass him and take over the Sterling Group. Logically, Shane’s time was precious now, every second counting. And yet, at this very moment, Shane Sterling felt a powerful force compelling him. He had to go back. He had to go back and see her.
