Living Only For Myself: Make Those Who Hate Me Regret It-Chapter 120: Do You Know What Your Classmates Are Saying Behind Your Back?
Just then, she ran into Qian Jia. Holding three cups she had just filled with water, Xu Su smiled at her friend. But Qian Jia just stared at her for a long time, as if they were meeting for the very first time.
Xu Su was a little puzzled. "What’s wrong? Why are you looking at me like that?"
Qian Jia pursed her lips, then smiled too. "It’s nothing. I just suddenly realized you’re a goofball. A beautiful goofball."
Not understanding what she meant, Xu Su took a few steps closer. "Qian Jia, why are you calling me dumb?"
Qian Jia finally snapped. She threw an arm around Xu Su’s neck and huffed, "Calling you dumb is letting you off easy. I ought to wring your neck! Xu Su, aren’t you an idiot? Are you trying to share your boyfriend now? You let God Xi tutor another girl, and you’re the one out here fetching them water? The audacity!"
"Do you know what our classmates are saying about you behind your back?"
Xu Su’s lip twitched. Even though she knew she shouldn’t be curious, that she definitely wouldn’t hear anything good, she still asked, "What are they saying about me?"
Qian Jia pulled Xu Su out of the classroom. After glancing around to make sure no one was there, she lowered her voice and said angrily, "The Cuckold Queen! They’re calling you the Cuckold Queen! God Xi is tutoring someone else, and not only are you not mad, you’re actually eager to fetch them water? Are you that much of a doormat?"
"I used to think Xi Zirong was great, but I take that back now. Susu, don’t let yourself be treated like this. If he’s no good, just break up with him. A great girl like you will have no trouble finding someone better, you know?"
Xu Su finally understood everything...
What a huge misunderstanding. To think that Qian Jia believed she was so spineless in her relationship with Xi Zirong that she’d watch him tutor another girl and still have to swallow her pride and fetch them water.
Xu Su didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. She wanted to explain, but just then the bell for class rang, so she had to drop it. "It’s not what you think. I’ll explain it to you guys tonight back at the dorm."
Qian Jia shot her a look. She didn’t understand what could possibly need explaining when the truth was staring her right in the face.
She felt her best friend was being bullied, and by her own deskmate and boyfriend no less. The more she thought about it, the angrier she got. From across the classroom, Qian Jia shot Xi Zirong a death glare.
Xu Su had been gone for a while, and Xi Zirong was just looking up to find her when his gaze met Qian Jia’s.
He faltered for a moment, just as he saw Xu Su returning to her seat.
Xu Su handed him the filled thermos. As he took it, his hand brushed against her ice-cold fingers, and his brows furrowed. "Susu, you didn’t wear your gloves?"
"I was just going out to get water. No need for gloves."
Writing with gloves on was inconvenient. Xu Su always took them off before class, storing them in her desk, and only put them on again after school was out.
Xi Zirong reached out and cupped her hand in his. "It’s so cold out. Don’t leave the classroom unless you have to. If you need water, I’ll get it."
Xu Su pulled her hand away and opened her own cup to drink some hot water. She was extremely sensitive to the cold; even bundled up in thick winter clothes, she needed to drink something hot from time to time to stay warm.
Xi Zirong was watching her without blinking. Xu Su smiled at him, then turned to Wu Qianqian, who had been silent the whole time, and said, "You two can start studying. I need to review, too."
After speaking, Xu Su turned to her own desk, took out the practice tests she needed to work on, and began writing furiously.
Perhaps it was because of what Qian Jia had said, or perhaps it was Wu Qianqian’s silence just now that made Xu Su feel like something was off.
During this evening self-study session, she couldn’t fully focus on her work. From beside her, she could occasionally hear Wu Qianqian’s soft, quiet questions, and Xi Zirong would answer them immediately.
One of the problems must have been very difficult. Wu Qianqian asked about it several times, her voice tinged with shyness and a hint of... ’Adoration?’
Seeing that Wu Qianqian still didn’t understand no matter how he explained it, Xi Zirong simply wrote down the steps, including several different methods, on a piece of scratch paper. "Look this over carefully yourself. If you really still don’t get it, we can talk about it then."
The more Xu Su listened, the more certain she became that something was truly wrong.
So that’s why. There was a reason Qian Jia felt the need to chew her out... She wasn’t just imagining things. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
Wu Qianqian really did seem to have a crush on Xi Zirong. And Xi Zirong...
Xu Su’s heart sank. She couldn’t see anything wrong with Xi Zirong’s actions, but... ’Does he know how Wu Qianqian feels?’
The moment the bell for the end of evening self-study rang at 9:30, Xu Su immediately packed up her desk, stood up, and left the classroom.
She’d been listening to the pair next to her go over problems for over a month. But tonight, after what Qian Jia said, the more she listened, the more it felt like she was being cuckolded.
If Xi Zirong didn’t know about Wu Qianqian’s feelings, that would be one thing. But if he did know and still said nothing, continuing to tutor a girl who liked him every day...
Even if she was the one who asked him to do it in the first place, that didn’t mean Xu Su could accept him not keeping a proper distance after knowing how the other girl felt.
It was the first time since she started boarding that Xu Su had gone back to the dorm when the day students were dismissed. Xi Zirong had originally thought she just went to the restroom, but he was surprised when she still hadn’t returned after over ten minutes.
At 9:45, while Xu Su was already back in her dorm and washing up, a call from Xi Zirong finally came through.
But she was in the bathroom and hadn’t taken her phone in with her. Xi Zirong called several times in a row, but no one answered.
He glanced at Wu Qianqian, who was still beside him and about to ask another question, his expression flat. "I’m leaving. If there’s anything else you don’t understand, ask someone else."
Having gotten out of class early for once, Xu Su took a long time to wash herself thoroughly from head to toe. By the time she finished and saw the missed calls on her phone, Xi Zirong had already been waiting outside the girls’ dorm for a long time.
Xu Su called him back. He picked up the instant it connected. "Susu," his voice came through the phone, "are you in the dorm? How come you came back so early? Did something happen?"
Xu Su put the phone on speaker. While drying her hair with a thick towel, she said into the phone, "I was a little tired today, so I came back early. Xi Zirong, if there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up. I need to blow-dry my hair."
There was a two-second pause on the other end of the line. Then, Xi Zirong said, "Then dry your hair and we’ll talk. I’ll wait for you outside your dorm."
Xu Su asked, "Is there something you need?"
"Yes, there is." Xi Zirong’s voice was heavy. "I want to ask you why you came back without telling me, leaving me alone with Wu Qianqian."
Uh...
’Why did he sound so wronged again?’
Xu Su sighed helplessly. "Fine. Give me a minute."
By the time Xu Su had dried her hair, bundled up in her coat, and gone outside, Xi Zirong had already been waiting for a full half-hour.
It was almost 10:30.
Not far from the girls’ dorm was a secluded pavilion. No one passed by at night, and few people ever looked that way. Xu Su jutted her chin in its direction. "Let’s go. We can talk over there."
The entrance to the girls’ dorm was no place to talk. Students would soon be trickling back from the evening self-study session.
The stone benches in the pavilion were ice-cold, and Xu Su had no intention of sitting down. She looked at Xi Zirong. "If you have something to say, say it quickly. I’m cold."
