Living Only For Myself: Make Those Who Hate Me Regret It-Chapter 110: What Have You Done?
Xu Su reached into her school uniform pocket, pulled out a pack of tissues, and offered one to the young girl.
The next second, her hand was shoved away. Caught off guard, Xu Su stumbled backward.
With quick reflexes, Xi Zirong caught her by the shoulder and steadied her.
Hu Anqi clearly recognized Xu Su. She snapped viciously, "Who asked for your fake kindness?"
Huang Feng shot to her feet. "What the hell! You’ve gone too far! You’re trying to steal our Susu’s man, and she hasn’t even gotten mad yet, but now you’re pushing her?"
Qian Jia clenched her fists, ready to charge forward and confront her, but Xu Su yanked her back.
Seeing that she was spoiling for a fight, Xu Su quickly coaxed her, "Don’t, don’t. It’s not worth it, really."
Xi Zirong released Xu Su and turned to Hu Anqi, whose eyes were red. His voice was a little cold. "I was the one who rejected you. If you’re upset about something, direct it at me. Why are you pushing other people?"
She was just a young girl, after all. Being lectured by several people in a row left Hu Anqi both humiliated and furious, her face flushing bright red. "I didn’t mean to. I was just so mad..."
She roughly wiped her tears with her sleeve, shot Xu Su one last furious glare, and ran away.
Xu Su/Huang Feng/Qian Jia: ...
Watching the figure quickly trot away and disappear, the three of them fell silent.
Huang Feng was the first to snap out of it. Her eyes twinkled as she looked at Xi Zirong. "Not bad, God Xi. Your admirers even include first-years now. Tsk, tsk..."
Qian Jia quickly chimed in, linking her arm through Xu Su’s and smiling pointedly. "My, my, we can’t even take a casual stroll without seeing someone confess to God Xi. I wonder how many little underclassmen have a crush on him that we *don’t* see. It’s true what they say—being too exceptional just makes you popular..."
Xi Zirong: ...
Their playful back-and-forth made Xi Zirong’s usually composed expression slowly turn a little awkward.
He ignored their teasing and looked at Xu Su, saying earnestly, "I don’t know her. I’ve never seen her before, and I still don’t know who she is. Xu Su, you saw, right? I didn’t let her touch me. I dodged."
Xu Su: "..."
He was so earnest with his explanation that she didn’t know how to respond. She shifted awkwardly, avoiding his gaze.
Then, Xu Su lifted the shopping bag in her hand and stiffly changed the subject. "We’re heading back to the dorm."
She was carrying a small bag of toiletries containing shampoo, bar soap, toothpaste, a toothbrush, and a box of tissues.
The next second, Huang Feng snatched the bag from her hand.
As Xu Su’s good friend—and a good friend who had accepted countless treats from Xi Zirong—Huang Feng, along with Qian Jia, was more than willing to help him out at a critical moment.
Huang Feng held Xu Su’s shopping bag, a knowing, motherly grin on her face. "What’s the rush to get back to the dorm? Let God Xi explain things properly. You two take your time and talk. We can’t have any misunderstandings over this. I’ll take your stuff back to the dorm for you."
Qian Jia wholeheartedly agreed. She let go of Xu Su’s arm, her face still showing lingering anger toward Hu Anqi.
Finally, she couldn’t help but add resentfully, "Susu, I don’t mean to criticize, but you’re way too soft. That girl was trying to steal your man right in front of your face, and you actually offered her a tissue."
Xu Su looked like she wanted to say something but held back. ’It’s not like she was "stealing my man"...’
Xi Zirong, on the other hand, was very pleased to hear that. Showing a rare bit of patience for other girls, he thanked Huang Feng and Qian Jia.
He took Xu Su’s hand again and asked, his head lowered, "Xu Su, you really don’t mind at all seeing me get cornered by another girl? If I hadn’t spotted you, were you just going to leave and pretend you never saw anything?"
Xi Zirong’s question was so direct that Qian Jia, who had been about to say more, immediately clammed up. Not wanting to disturb them, she exchanged an excited glance with Huang Feng, and they both scurried away.
With her hand held by Xi Zirong, Xu Su could only watch helplessly as her two friends abandoned her and ran off...
"....." She looked up at Xi Zirong. ’This guy is really something else. He’s managed to win over my only two friends without me even noticing.’
His grip tightened slightly as he prompted, "Answer me."
Xu Su glanced around. Though the path was secluded, students still passed by occasionally. She had no intention of creating more gossip for her classmates to chew on.
She pulled her hand free without much effort and walked toward the back of a large, nearby tree.
Behind the tree was a large rock. After a quick glance to make sure the surface was clean, Xu Su sat down and looked up at Xi Zirong, who had followed her.
The boy’s expression was grim, still stubbornly waiting for her answer.
Xu Su’s head throbbed. ’Does it bother me that another girl cornered Xi Zirong to confess to him?’
’To be honest... I guess it does a little.’
’And then there was his question about whether I would’ve just left if he hadn’t spotted me...’
’In fact, if he hadn’t walked over, I was already getting ready to pull Huang Feng and the others in a different direction.’
’As for what Qian Jia said about "stealing my man"... other people might not know the truth, but doesn’t he?’
’Our relationship isn’t at a point where you could even use that phrase.’
Xu Su was silent for a long time, saying nothing.
Xi Zirong waited for a moment. Seeing she had no intention of speaking, he slowly crouched down to meet her gaze.
He tentatively took her hand and started explaining again. "This was the only time. This has only ever happened once. I’m not as popular with girls as Qian Jia says. And I don’t like them. Xu Su, I only like you."
The boy’s voice was so incredibly earnest that Xu Su realized he was genuinely afraid she would misunderstand.
She found that she couldn’t help but be moved when faced with him. He was just so sincere.
Letting him hold her hand, Xu Su finally answered his question head-on. "I do mind. Xi Zirong, if she had actually managed to grab you just now, I think I would have minded a lot."
’It wasn’t often she fell for someone. How could she not mind if another person laid a hand on him?’
His grip on her hand suddenly tightened. The boy’s eyes lit up, and he couldn’t hide his smile. "If you mind, then why didn’t you come over? Xu Su, if you had come over on your own, I would have been happy. So, so happy."
"..." Xi Zirong’s gaze was too intense. Xu Su lowered her eyes, feeling a little flustered. "And do what? Watch you make another girl cry?"
’She already resented me, and I didn’t even go over. If I had strolled over like I was watching a show, wouldn’t that have made me a terrible person who gets a kick out of seeing others humiliated?’
Thinking of the girl’s tear-streaked face, Xu Su grew a little curious. "What exactly did you do? That girl was crying so hard."
Her words made Xi Zirong frown. "I didn’t do anything. I’m not the one who made her cry. If she wants to cry, what does that have to do with me?"
He even seemed a little aggrieved. Still crouching, he held her hand with both of his, his eyes full of frustration. "I was just minding my own business, walking down the path, when she blocked my way. I don’t even know her. She barely said two sentences before she started crying and tried to grab my arm."
"..." Xu Su could just imagine the icy look on his face when that girl blocked his path.
