Live Strong in the Wilderness-Chapter 99: Wild Grapes
After chatting for a while, Lu Ke went to sleep.
Xu Yi also finished his work, took a shower, and then went to sleep.
The 22nd day ended, and Xu Yi and Lu Ke greeted a new day under the sunlight.
After waking up, Lu Ke first did the Eighteen Forms of Body Strengthening three times, then started washing up and brushing his teeth, followed by boiling water.
Xu Yi did the same, practicing the Eighteen Forms of Body Strengthening a few times upon waking up.
In the livestream, more and more people started learning this set of Eighteen Forms of Body Strengthening. After all, it doesn’t require a lot of space, and you can practice in your room at home.
"Xu Yi, what’s the plan for today?" Lu Ke handed Xu Yi a glass of water, and now that it’s not raining, they could go out anytime.
"I’ll go hunting in the morning and come back in the afternoon to build a shed for the septic tank," Xu Yi mentioned his plan, without commenting on Lu Ke’s schedule.
After all, she could also continue making some pottery.
"Then I’ll go hunting with you, and help you in the afternoon," Lu Ke thought it would be better to hunt with Xu Yi since there wasn’t much to do at the camp recently.
A lot of pottery had been made, and the rest wasn’t urgently needed.
Besides, pottery could be made at night as well.
"Alright, it’s decided then." Xu Yi didn’t refuse Lu Ke, and then began preparing the supplies.
After all, they would be out for half a day, so they could bring along dried meat for lunch.
Before 8 o’clock, the two set out.
The destination was the place where wild deer were spotted yesterday, where there’s clover, so it’s possible those wild deer might return today. Therefore, Xu Yi decided to take Lu Ke there to try their luck and see if they could encounter deer.
Food is something one can never have too much of.
Even if it sits uneaten, it’s better than running out of food.
On the way, Xu Yi suddenly pointed to a field of flowers not far away.
"Lu Ke, look, bees."
"I see them. Do you think if we follow these bees, we could find their hive and harvest some honey?" Lu Ke asked, licking her lips, clearly craving it.
"We probably could." Xu Yi felt that if they could get some honey, it’d be a major find.
So, the two stayed near the flower field for a while. After seeing about a dozen bees leave, they immediately followed them.
Luckily, the bees weren’t flying too fast, so they could keep up.
Soon, they arrived at the base of a big tree.
"The bees are flying so high; we can’t see any hive," Lu Ke said, looking up at the treetop where bees were flying in and out, at quite a height.
"There should be a tree hole up there; knowing their hive is here is good enough," Xu Yi glanced up before looking around.
Should they climb up or just chop down the tree?
At this point, they weren’t really prepared to harvest honey yet.
Getting honey isn’t an easy task.
Bees can sting, and if someone is allergic to bee venom, the results could be serious.
In the worst case, it could endanger your life.
These bees were quite large, about the size of a pinky finger.
Moreover, this wasn’t their planet, so extra caution was necessary.
If they were eliminated by these little things, it would be a huge loss.
"So what should we do now?" Lu Ke looked at Xu Yi; she didn’t know how they could successfully take the honey, or even realized that bee stings could be life-threatening.
"Make a mark, knowing their hive is here is enough. Don’t underestimate bees, they can sting people to death," Xu Yi said while walking over to a nearby tree and making a mark. Once they were prepared, they could come back to get the honey.
After all, they didn’t even have anything to store the honey now.
"Xu Yi, if it’s too dangerous, we should just forget about it. I think food is more important," Lu Ke said worriedly, watching the bees buzz in and out above.
At first, she didn’t think it was so dangerous, but Xu Yi’s mention of their potentially deadly stings made her realize her lack of understanding about bees.
"Don’t worry, I won’t act recklessly," Xu Yi said, smiling at Lu Ke. Despite the risks, the allure of honey was significant.
"No matter how formidable they are, they lack much intelligence. As long as we use the right methods, we can get that precious honey," Xu Yi reassured, seeing Lu Ke still looked worried.
"Just be extremely careful; if it doesn’t work out, we can just leave it. After all, it’s not something we absolutely need," Lu Ke replied, glancing around.
"Xu Yi, look over there, are those grapes?" Lu Ke pointed to a spot not far away.
Xu Yi followed her gaze and nodded.
"Yes, they’re grapes. Let’s go pick some." Xu Yi grinned, surprised to find grapes here.
"They’re quite large, about the size of a thumb." From Xu Yi’s memory, wild grapes were usually small and sour.
Xu Yi picked one and put it in his mouth.
"They’re not very sour; I thought they’d be really sour," Xu Yi remarked in surprise, then took off his backpack.
These wild grapes made up a small patch, and picking them all could yield nearly a ton.
"Not bad, although they’re not very sweet, they’re quite refreshing and tasty," Lu Ke said while continuously popping them into her mouth, feeling a bit hungry in the late morning.
Xu Yi used his knife to cut off a bunch and, after eating all of them, said, "Let’s pick more; if we can’t finish them, we can use them to make wine."
"Sure, it’d be such a waste not to pick these grapes," Lu Ke agreed, drawing her own knife to help Xu Yi gather grapes.
"Nice one, Xu Yi is even thinking of making wine, is he planning to get our Loli Ke drunk?"
"Nonsense, our Xu Yi isn’t that dishonorable."
"What’s so dishonorable about getting someone drunk? What are you, a bunch of little witches?"
"What luck! Tracking bees and then finding a bunch of wild grapes, and they’re not even sour."
"Grapes ripen between July and September, so they must be nearing autumn, time to stock up on more furs."
"It feels like they’re in a subtropical area; winters might be quite warm there."
"This is an alien planet; nothing is certain."
"These wild grapes look great, but eating them without washing, they’re such risk-takers! Aren’t they afraid of getting diarrhea?"
"Wild and all-natural, can’t get anything purer."
"I’d love to visit this place, no bugs, it seems perfect for human survival."
"Truly doesn’t feel like there are any insects, the ecology is very different from our world."
"If you want to go, start saving money; no matter where you go, you need money first."
"..."
