Live Strong in the Wilderness-Chapter 94: Exploring a New Path
Next, the two of them inspected each piece of pottery one by one.
After checking around, no visible cracks were found.
Next, they would fill the pottery with water to see if there were any leaks.
Overall, this firing was quite successful, indicating that Lu Ke’s homemade clay kiln met the requirements for firing.
After finishing, Lu Ke went to sleep.
Xu Yi continued chiseling holes, and after finishing the last one, he also went to rest.
The 21st day in the wilderness passed so quietly.
"It’s already seven in the morning, why hasn’t Loli Ke woken up yet? She didn’t sleep late last night."
"Why not let her sleep in a bit?"
"The weather outside looks nice, the sun is almost shining into the yard."
"I also don’t want to leave my bed, staying in is so cozy."
"There’s some movement, I wonder who woke up first."
"I guess it’s Loli Ke."
"No prize for guessing correctly, though I know it’s Loli Ke too."
"As expected, it is Loli Ke. I love watching her stretch, it’s so cute."
"True to her sunny nature, she just looks so comforting."
"Is she getting ready to practice the Eighteen Forms of Body Strengthening that Xu Yi taught her? I need to learn too."
"Watching Xu Yi do it is more pleasing; Loli Ke’s movements are too stiff, makes me want to fast forward."
"Haha, Loli Ke learned it yesterday; wonder if you did. Still daring to criticize how others look?"
"My eyes learned it, my brain did too, just not my body. Sigh!"
In the yard, Lu Ke was seriously practicing the Eighteen Forms of Body Strengthening.
After doing it three times, Lu Ke wiped the sweat off her forehead.
Not only her forehead, but her back was even sweatier.
So, she felt that Xu Yi’s teachings of the Eighteen Forms of Body Strengthening were definitely effective.
After resting for a few minutes, Lu Ke went to inspect the results of her labor.
The pottery fired yesterday, checking for any leaks.
After checking them all, Lu Ke picked up a cup.
This cup had lost half of its water, indicating it was leaking.
Upon inspection, Lu Ke found a small crack at the bottom of the cup.
However, she didn’t throw the cup away.
After all, it can still be used for brushing teeth and rinsing, no need to discard it.
Holding the cup fondly, Lu Ke brushed her teeth. After washing her face, she picked up a clay pot, ready to boil water.
After all, she needed to test whether her handmade clay pot could be used for boiling water and cooking food.
Just after placing the pot on the fire, Xu Yi walked out from the door.
"Good morning, finally it’s a sunny day," Xu Yi greeted Lu Ke happily, feeling good upon seeing the sunshine.
"Yes, it’s no longer raining," Lu Ke smiled lightly.
After some activity, Xu Yi performed the Eighteen Forms of Body Strengthening three times.
Afterwards, Xu Yi felt refreshed and invigorated.
After washing up, Xu Yi and Lu Ke had breakfast together.
Wolf meat slices with hot water, though the taste was just okay, it was filling enough.
After breakfast, Lu Ke went out of the yard to cut some grass to feed the rabbits.
After feeding the rabbits, she and Xu Yi headed out together.
They had planned to go to the seaside to catch crabs, and promised they’d stick to it.
They also brought some wolf meat slices for lunch, packing a bag of cool boiled water.
At eight forty in the morning, they headed towards the seaside.
"Today, let’s explore a new path and see if we can find any wild vegetables or potatoes," Xu Yi suggested. Although the direct route was faster, it didn’t yield any findings.
"Sure, we have the whole day," Lu Ke naturally didn’t mind. Now she felt she could accompany Xu Yi on hunts too, not just be baggage.
So, exploring a new path wasn’t scary anymore.
Previously, the path was quite straightforward. Now Xu Yi opted to take an angled path to the seaside, even if it took three to four hours.
They could then cover a larger exploration area.
Xu Yi walked ahead, holding a machete.
Not only for clearing the path, but also for marking.
After all, they needed to return the same way, or risk not finding the campsite when night fell, which would be very dangerous.
Their campsite lacked any noticeable landmarks, otherwise returning wouldn’t be necessary.
"Xu Yi, do you want to rest a while and let me clear the path?" Lu Ke noticed Xu Yi had been walking for over an hour without resting.
"No need. How about you, want to rest?" Xu Yi glanced back at Lu Ke. Though it had been over an hour, they hadn’t gone far.
Since they needed to scout around, they couldn’t just head down the road, limiting the journey.
"Have some water, it’s quite stuffy in the woods," Lu Ke wiped her sweat, her face flushed with heat. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
"Okay, let’s rest for a while." Xu Yi set down his backpack, took out the plastic bag, and handed it to Lu Ke.
Lu Ke took the water, sipped, then handed it to Xu Yi.
"No sign of even half a wild vegetable, I thought we’d have a big find today." Lu Ke glanced around, saw only little shrubs, not the plants she’d hoped to discover.
"Maybe this forest is too dense, not suitable for plant growth," Xu Yi remarked after drinking, then glanced up at the sky.
Only a few rays of sunlight could penetrate directly, leaving the woods somewhat dark.
But, the temperature was far from low, so it was quite stuffy.
"The front might be better, seems much brighter," Xu Yi pointed ahead, then put the water back in the backpack.
Lu Ke nodded, hoping to find something ahead.
So, they continued walking forward.
"Hold on," Xu Yi suddenly stopped Lu Ke, then sniffed forcefully.
"What’s wrong?" Lu Ke asked softly, glancing around. Seemingly, there was no movement.
"Nothing, just appeared that some animal was nearby," Xu Yi said and continued walking.
Lu Ke glanced at Xu Yi’s back, then sniffed forcefully.
Besides a faint smell of rot, she couldn’t detect anything else.
How did Xu Yi smell it?
"Probably a few deer, they walked far," Xu Yi pointed to some footprints.
Lu Ke’s eyes widened, surprised Xu Yi could actually smell.
"That’s unfortunate, had we not rested, we might have encountered those deer," Lu Ke said regretfully. She also wanted to try hunting.
The last time she shot a wolf, it came to her doorstep.
