Live Strong in the Wilderness-Chapter 84: Unknown Creature
"Xu Yi."
Lu Ke nervously glanced at Xu Yi, her heart suddenly tightening.
A loud roar, heard quite clearly.
The moment he heard the sound, Xu Yi’s hand reached for his machete.
"Don’t be afraid, that sound is quite far from us." Xu Yi put the knife back down; the distance was indeed not close.
Judging by the sound, it should be some kind of bear-like creature.
If it really attacked, Xu Yi would have to risk his life.
"It sounds like a very large animal, what could it be?" Lu Ke glanced at Xu Yi, several animal figures appeared in her mind.
Anyway, they were all large predators, like tigers, lions, and black bears.
"I don’t know for sure, but it should be a black bear. This isn’t its territory, it should just be passing by." Xu Yi explained briefly, but he wasn’t very sure either, as they hadn’t seen it.
"It shouldn’t come here, right?" Lu Ke still couldn’t ease her mind, as the roar earlier was quite frightening.
If it really came, should she and Xu Yi give up the challenge?
"It shouldn’t, in the rain, it can’t smell us." Xu Yi said, then moved himself to the entrance’s position.
Machete and Hunting Bow were kept by his side.
"That’s good." Lu Ke looked at Xu Yi, feeling somewhat more at ease.
She would still listen to Xu Yi, whether to persist or to give up.
She had no reason to be scared by an animal that hadn’t even appeared yet.
Even if it really did come, they should fight once and then consider giving up.
"The rain is getting heavier." Xu Yi glanced outside.
Outside, it suddenly turned into a torrential downpour.
However, Xu Yi’s tone revealed happiness.
After all, a heavy downpour tends to bring a lot of rain. Maybe, after a downpour, tomorrow will be sunny.
"That’s better, finish it in one go, and we’ll have sun tomorrow." Lu Ke thought the same as Xu Yi.
Gradually, there were a few more roars.
It was unsure if the roars were drowned out by the heavy rain or if the distance had increased.
Anyway, Lu Ke gradually felt at ease.
"Alright, it’s getting late, you go rest first." Xu Yi saw it was past 11 o’clock and reminded Lu Ke to rest.
Lu Ke glanced at the time, then nodded.
After washing up, Lu Ke laid down the velvet grass again and went to sleep.
Xu Yi continued to carve Crossbow Arrows for a while, then went to sleep.
Before sleeping, Xu Yi specifically checked the fence and secured the door more firmly.
That night, Xu Yi remained quite vigilant.
The audience was also very anxious, so they arrived at the live stream early in the morning.
"Seeing Lu Ke wake up in the morning is such a joy, sending love."
"If it’s sunny, I’d be even happier."
"This rain is really annoying, it hasn’t stopped for so many days."
"Last night was really worrying, such a loud roar, it could have been a bear."
"I was worried they would be eliminated, thankfully they weren’t, otherwise what a pity."
"Yeah, I’ve been watching for over ten days, really don’t want them to be eliminated like that."
"Good thing it’s raining, otherwise if their scent got picked up, probably the big guy from last night would be drawn near."
As everyone breathed a sigh of relief, Xu Yi opened his eyes.
Xu Yi had woken up several times last night, but fell asleep quickly.
So, he still managed to rest well and wasn’t too affected.
"Morning." Lu Ke greeted Xu Yi when she saw him wake up.
"Morning, has the rain stopped outside?" Xu Yi asked casually.
"No, but it’s much lighter, we still can’t see the sun." Lu Ke added the cut fish slices into the pot, wanting to change flavors after days of lamb meat.
"Still raining." Xu Yi pursed his lips, then stepped outside.
It was still drizzling outside, and it was very muddy. The rain from yesterday was so heavy, it soaked the yard.
After washing up, Xu Yi had breakfast with Lu Ke.
"Xu Yi, are you going hunting?" Lu Ke saw Xu Yi putting on his Hunting Bow and arrows, and asked.
She thought Xu Yi would be preparing firewood and thatch today.
After all, the thatch for the toilet roof was used to reinforce the house, and needed to be replenished.
"Yes, I’m going out to take a look, maybe we’ll be lucky and get some fresh prey." Xu Yi shouldered his basket, then his bag.
"Be safe." Lu Ke said, making a cheering gesture.
Xu Yi smiled happily at this, feeling as if blessed with good luck.
Stretching out his hand, he gently touched Lu Ke’s head, and tenderly said, "You too, if you encounter something you can’t handle, just forfeit."
"Mm!" Lu Ke blushed, nodded at Xu Yi.
With the hood on, Xu Yi headed out.
Once outside, Xu Yi closed his eyes, recalling the direction from where he heard the roar yesterday.
Then, Xu Yi straightened his path towards that direction.
After so many days of rain, lots of debris lay on the ground.
Using his sight, hearing, and smell, Xu Yi attempted to locate prey.
But after more than an hour, Xu Yi hadn’t spotted a single animal.
After pausing for some water, Xu Yi prepared to continue forward.
Then, he smelled a hint of blood.
Following the scent, Xu Yi moved in its direction.
After a few minutes, Xu Yi saw a deer’s head, with antlers.
"This is a wolf’s tail." He picked up a wolf’s tail from the ground and glanced around.
A tree, as thick as a bowl, lay fallen, seemingly smashed apart.
"Damn, what kind of creature attacked it, being able to break a tree like that?"
"Seeing Xu Yi measuring the footprints, they’re even bigger than his two palms combined."
"It’s definitely not a bear, their footprints aren’t that large."
"It might not be a bear; it could be a creature unknown to our world. After all, this is an alien planet."
"Snapping such a thick tree, any group encountering such an animal faces certain doom."
"I’m nauseous, those are the internal organs of some animal on the ground."
"Not even eating the internal organs, this creature must be formidable, possibly intelligent?"
Xu Yi frowned as he looked at the pile of innards in front of him, furrowing his brows.
Even if it was the entrails of a wolf and wild deer, the animal’s appetite is frighteningly large.
To eat both a wolf and a deer, how big must its stomach be?
If it didn’t eat them, it probably took them away.
This indicates that the giant creature isn’t simple.
In any case, neither situation is good news.
