Chapter 83: Chapter 83: Leaking

"Lu Ke." Xu Yi opened the door and then called out.

"I’m inside." Lu Ke came out and saw Xu Yi put down the backpack and took out the engineer shovel.

"Today wasn’t lucky, came back empty-handed." Xu Yi said and then walked out of the yard to clean the traps’ drainage.

"Xu Yi, there’s a bit of a leak in the house." Lu Ke brought some bad news. She noticed it and promptly moved the thatch to a spot without leaks to avoid having nowhere to sleep at night.

"It’s leaking so quickly?" Xu Yi hadn’t expected the roof he made to be so fragile, starting to leak in just over ten days.

"Yeah, when I was moving the thatch, I heard the sound of water droplets, and then it started leaking more." Lu Ke explained to Xu Yi, she initially wanted to cover it herself with thatch, but found her height was not enough to do it, so Chu Yi would have to solve it when he returned.

After clearing the leaves, Xu Yi returned to the yard.

The roof needed a new layer of thatch, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to sleep at night.

With Lu Ke’s help, by evening past 8, Xu Yi finally re-covered the roof with a layer of thatch.

Returning indoors, the two of them couldn’t wait for the water to boil and started munching on jerky, their stomachs growling with hunger.

In the wilderness, it’s like this, you never know what kind of unpredictability awaits.

"This is just a small rain, yet it’s like this. If a typhoon hits, our leaks will probably be much worse." This incident reminded Xu Yi of the possible rough weather that could strip away their semblance of a solid shelter.

So, they must reinforce their camp sooner, making it withstand harsher wind and rain.

After all, only 17 days have passed, and there’s a long road ahead till 500 days.

The camp is their safe haven and cannot afford issues.

"Will there be typhoons?" Lu Ke, having always lived inland, hasn’t experienced a typhoon before.

"This is an island, the chance of experiencing a typhoon is high. Maybe a typhoon is already brewing." Xu Yi rubbed his chin. Having experienced a typhoon, he knew how terrifying nature’s force could be.

The weather here barely hits early autumn, so typhoons might still form.

"Are typhoons really scary? I’ve only seen them on the news before." Lu Ke glanced outside, feeling the dark world becoming a bit frightening.

"It should be alright, the trees on our island rarely get blown down, which means it’s relatively safe. With so many trees blocking the wind for us, the camp will also be safe." Xu Yi reassured her with a truth. However, planning should consider the worst-case scenario.

"That’s good, I was just afraid a typhoon would sweep our camp away." Lu Ke stuck out her tongue, thinking it made a lot of sense. They’ve been to the seaside and indeed hadn’t seen any trees blown down.

"It won’t. Once the rain stops, I’ll reinforce the house." Xu Yi took a sip of mint tea after speaking. Drinking more could prevent a cold.

Getting a cold at this time would mean Lu Ke would forbid him from going hunting.

"Once the rain stops, I can fire these pieces into pottery." Lu Ke said as she glanced at the pottery blanks she had made.

Three large jars, three pots over 30 centimeters deep, a hotpot, two soup pots, and a squat toilet. And some smaller pottery items like bowls and cups.

The larger the pottery, the harder it is to make because cracks can easily form, and once there are cracks, it’s hard to fix.

Lu Ke has gradually mastered the technique of making large pottery.

She has set a goal to make a large vat with a half-meter diameter and one-meter height. That way, it can be used for soaking bath.

Of course, she’s making it mainly for water storage and food preservation.

"Tomorrow, I’ll chop some wood to dry, you can schedule that."

With the camp’s firewood running low, Xu Yi plans to cut more to dry and keep as reserve.

If the rain lasts for ten days to half a month, running out of firewood would be terrible.

"Alright." Lu Ke nodded, these pottery blanks really needed to be fired soon, or they’d get ruined by the rain, and she’d have to start all over.

If there was enough firewood, it’s better to fire them sooner.

After all, once the rain begins, it doesn’t seem to stop, feeling like it’ll soon flood the camp.

After chatting for a while, Xu Yi continued making crossbow arrows.

Lu Ke took out the clothes she hadn’t finished weaving for Xu Yi and continued weaving.

After all, it was already halfway done; it’d be a shame to discard it just like this.

Even if Xu Yi doesn’t wear it, she could wear it herself.

The two quietly worked, but their live streaming room wasn’t quiet at all.

"This rain is lasting so long without a moment of stop. If I were holed up inside for so many days, I’d get moldy."

"It really feels like a typhoon is about to hit, this rain is like the calm before the storm."

"It’s a pity there’s no weather data; otherwise, predictions could be made."

"It’s been three days straight, and the rain still hasn’t stopped. I see some channels even discussing giving up."

"Rainy days, firewood is damp, no food to eat, giving up is understandable."

"If this goes on for a few more days, dozens of groups might really be eliminated."

"The longer it rains, the more people will drop out. Xu Yi’s group is lucky; they have food reserves."

"Yeah, even the Luck Duo isn’t doing well, they haven’t caught fish for two days now, starting to go hungry."

"Never thought a single rain could put so many groups in crisis. If it snowed continuously for months, wouldn’t all groups get eliminated?"

"Not all groups would be eliminated, surely some could hang in there. I remember Group 432’s camp is near hot springs, they won’t be eliminated." 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

"So excellent, there’s a hot spring, I gotta check it out."

"No one expected the rain to last this long. If prepared, it wouldn’t be this bad."

"The ones without clothes or sleeping bags are the most pitiful, can’t even go outside when it rains, only stay near the camp."

"I’ve seen many groups without clothes, but they made their own raincoats or umbrellas. Those not making rain shields by now are too careless, deserve it. It’s not the first rainy day, should’ve considered it long ago."

"Loli Ke and Xu Yi were clever turning the sleeping bag into clothes."

"Whoa, what was that sound just now?"
