Chapter 79: Chapter 79: Can’t Stop Even If It Rains

"The vest fits well, thank you." Xu Yi said happily, feeling warm inside.

"As long as it fits. I was worried it might be too small." Lu Ke smiled slightly, the sense of achievement written all over her face.

Xu Yi happily put on the coat, and it felt even more comfortable this way.

"I’m so sleepy, I’m off to bed, goodnight." With that, Lu Ke stood up, stretched her neck and body, and went to sleep.

Xu Yi glanced at Lu Ke, then retracted his gaze.

He added some firewood to the bonfire and continued shaving the hunting bow.

This hunting bow was almost finished.

However, Xu Yi didn’t plan to string it yet. After all, Lu Ke had a hand crossbow.

Xu Yi planned to use the iron wood he crafted the bow with to make a batch of new short arrows for Lu Ke, which would greatly enhance the power of the hand crossbow when paired with them.

With the hand crossbow, it was sufficient to meet Lu Ke’s hunting needs.

This hunting bow was meant as a backup by Xu Yi and stringing it would damage its flexibility.

If Lu Ke needed it, Xu Yi would make her a compound recurve bow.

Thinking of this, Xu Yi glanced at Lu Ke.

Beside the bed, the hand crossbow was still there.

After the wildcat attack last time, she kept the short crossbow at hand even while sleeping.

Xu Yi had always had this habit; after all, this was wilderness, and having weapons out of reach felt insecure.

Putting down the dagger, Xu Yi sheathed it and tucked it into his jacket pocket.

He got up, exercised a bit, placed the machete beside the bed, and then lay down.

Just as he lay down, Lu Ke turned over and placed her leg on him.

Xu Yi showed a slight smile and then closed his eyes.

The sound of rain outside pattered, a bit heavier than when it had started.

Before long, Xu Yi fell asleep.

After a restful night, Xu Yi was awakened by some smoke the next morning.

"Is it still raining outside?" Xu Yi asked when he saw Lu Ke boiling water.

"Yes, it doesn’t look like it’s stopping at all, the sky’s all grey." Lu Ke said, pouting. She used to like rain, but since coming to the wilderness, she didn’t like it at all.

Xu Yi got straight out of bed. After putting on his hat, he went outside. After all, his clothes were waterproof, and he could go out in the rain.

After washing up, Xu Yi returned to the house.

"If it keeps raining, the clay kiln won’t be usable." Lu Ke said worriedly. Although those bricks had been fired into pottery, there’s no way to fire more bricks with continuous rain.

Unless, they put up some sort of canopy.

"Let’s start building the canopy today; if this is the rainy season with continuous rain, our time will be wasted." Xu Yi thought that even though it was raining, they couldn’t just rest at home; they needed to do what needed to be done.

"Sure, I’ll do it with you." Lu Ke said, handing Xu Yi a bowl of sliced dried mutton.

Luckily, they had enough food; otherwise, if it were really the rainy season, it would be quite troublesome.

Dried mutton with a bowl of hot water was their breakfast.

After breakfast, Xu Yi and Lu Ke went out.

They spent the entire morning harvesting thatch and carrying it back.

Indeed, the rain showed no sign of stopping, and the sky remained overcast.

In the afternoon, Lu Ke fixed the thatch onto small wooden sticks.

Meanwhile, Xu Yi started digging pits outside with the engineer shovel.

Fortunately, they had chopped down many trees that day; after digging a pit, Xu Yi would carry back a log and bury it.

After a whole afternoon, over a dozen pillars were up in the yard, covering half of it.

This way, not only was the clay kiln covered but also the water source area and the front of the house.

Of course, there was also a toilet.

Xu Yi planned to add a door towards the inside left of the house, leading to a corner of the yard where a toilet could be made.

It was quite inconvenient without a toilet.

By afternoon, Lu Ke had already finished making five panels of thatch. This efficiency was quite good.

"I didn’t expect the 15th day to be like this." At the door, Lu Ke looked at the rain outside and said helplessly. She used to enjoy watching the rain and feeling the breeze from her hospital room window.

Now, she just hoped the rain would end soon. Despite her clothing being very waterproof, her hair wasn’t even wet.

"In our world, it’s also possible to rain continuously for over a dozen days, so we must be prepared for prolonged rain." Xu Yi said, taking off his shoes and warming his cold feet by the fire pit.

"I wonder how those who didn’t choose appropriate clothing are getting through." Lu Ke murmured, then took a bite of the dried mutton in her hand.

"Loli Ke is just too kind, still worrying about others."

"The Saint Mother personality is dangerous, aren’t you afraid of dragging Xu Yi down?"

"Holy crap, reflecting like this makes her a Saint Mother? You must be a selfish jerk."

"Is being kind wrong? Is being selfish and self-serving correct, then?"

The stream chat exploded into argument.

Lu Ke absolutely didn’t expect her reflection would incite such a flame war.

After dinner, she began sewing her vest.

Xu Yi brought in the iron wood, sawed a section, and started making crossbow arrows for Lu Ke’s short crossbow.

He hadn’t expected to spend the 15th day like this. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

"Unknowingly it’s been half a month; time still flies. I thought the two of us would turn into savages." Wang Jin remarked, adding some vegetables to the fire. Nearby, the firewood was damp, having been gathered that day by her and Lu Yao.

"Feeling like playing games?" Lu Yao glanced at Wang Jin, knowing how boring nights could be here.

Wang Jin paused, looked at Lu Yao, then nodded, "It’s more than just games I miss, everything about home I do. But don’t worry, I have no intention of giving up. No matter how long, I’ll stick with you."

"Will you continue gaming when you return?" Lu Yao previously thought Wang Jin’s job as a game streamer reflected a passive lifestyle. If people indulge only in entertainment, society would stagnate.

She’d always had a negative view of people in the esports industry.

Though esports had a significant economic market, it didn’t contribute to social development.

However, over these past 15 days, she’d had a change of heart about Wang Jin.

"Probably." Wang Jin said uncertainly. Perhaps by the time she went back, the games she played would have been replaced by new ones, requiring her to start over.

She didn’t plan on تغيير herself; she believed playing games was a good way to relieve stress occasionally. After all, most gamers weren’t addicted; many simply found entertainment in it without it affecting their lives or work.
