Rejected and Pregnant: Claimed By The Dark Alpha Prince-Chapter 722: It’s alright to cry, Jeniva
Dominick knocked on the door of Jeniva’s room and waited for her to open it. Within seconds, it swung open and he stepped inside, finding the papers scattered on the table.
"Are you already deep into the strategizing?" Dominick asked.
"Yes," Jeniva replied. "Xaris Albamus, the Alpha who bought me, is my primary target."
"You found out his name!?" Dominick arched his eyebrows in surprise.
"The spy did," Jeniva answered. "I’ve been tracing his network, his black-market associates, and everyone who has ever profited from his trade." She paused, turning to face him. "I need to go undercover tomorrow. Do you really intend to accompany me? Why won’t you trust me to handle this mission on my own?"
Dominick turned away from the table. "I trust your skill, Jeniva. But I don’t trust the man Xaris is. The last incident is burned into my memory, and I refuse to let you walk back into that lion’s den alone. If anything happened to you under my watch, I would never stop questioning my own ability to protect those I care about."
Jeniva stepped closer, closing the distance between them until she was standing directly beside him.
"And I cannot allow you to be the one in the line of danger," she countered softly but firmly. "The spy assisting me is an elite combat warrior. You should remain at the residence, Dominick. I know your heart is heavy with worry, but I promise you, I will not be harmed. You have to trust me on this."
Jeniva’s hands were small but firm as she took his, her gaze holding his.
"I want the Alpha Prince to be safe," she whispered. "He is meant to command, not to get involved in such dangerous tasks. Treat me as you did before you knew who I was, before this bond began to pull at us."
"I wish I could," Dominick murmured.
His gaze dropped instinctively to her lips, the distance between them suddenly feeling agonizingly small.
For a second, they felt a strange tension growing between them. Then, with a sharp intake of breath, he shook his head, physically pulling himself back from the edge.
’What am I even thinking?’ he scolded his wolf. ’Black, stop playing with my head.’
’I did nothing,’ Black countered immediately. ’These aren’t my instincts, Dominick. These are your own thoughts. You want to kiss her. Don’t blame the wolf for the man’s desires.’
Dominick tightened his grip on Jeniva’s hands for a second longer than necessary before letting go and stepping back toward the map-covered table. "Even if I stay back," he said, "I will have a recovery team stationed less than a mile from the exchange point. That is my final condition."
"Okay. Thank you for listening to me, Your Highness," Jeniva said, a soft smile playing on her lips.
"Your Highness?" Dominick echoed, his brow arching in surprise. The sudden return to formality felt strange to him.
"I mean... Dominick," she corrected herself, her voice softening.
"Hmm. Regardless, I’ll help you finish the—"
"It’s almost done. You truly don’t need to trouble yourself further," Jeniva asserted, gently steering the conversation back to the pressing matters. "Did you speak with Hannah? How is her grandfather? And have the officials who neglected the Silver Pines arrived yet?"
"Hannah’s grandfather is much improved," Dominick explained, leaning back against the edge of the heavy oak table. "As for the officials, they have been summoned. I’ll be dealing with them shortly in the study."
"Great." Jeniva’s gaze drifted back to the scattered intelligence reports. "If this mission is successful, I’ll be eligible for a promotion. My father... he always dreamed of seeing me with at least one Medal of Honor. It’s a significant achievement for us Omegas. He never forced me into this life, but once I joined the sentinels, he couldn’t stop talking about the medals. He wanted so badly to show it off to his friends."
Her voice faltered, and her eyes suddenly brimmed with tears. "Ah, I don’t usually cry," she murmured, wiping at her cheek as the ache of missing him caught her off guard.
Dominick reached out and pulled her into a side hug, but the moment his arm draped over her, Jeniva turned fully toward him. She buried her face against the firm expanse of his chest, seeking the comfort only he seemed able to provide.
"You will definitely get that medal," Dominick assured her as he was confident in her abilities. "Your father may not be here in person, but when you visit his grave with that honor on your chest, I know his soul will be at peace. He will be so proud of the daughter who brought such fame to all Omegas. And it’s alright to cry, Jeniva. It is admirable that after everything you’ve endured, you never lost your spark. You’ve always stood tall."
Jeniva squeezed her eyes shut, the memory of her father’s face flickering in her mind, a source of both pain and boundless strength. After a few quiet minutes, she pulled away, wiping the moisture from her cheeks with the back of her hand.
"Sorry for..."
"Don’t be," Dominick interrupted gently.
As he watched her regain her composure, a silent vow took root in his mind.
’If she completes this mission, I will personally petition my father to honor her. It’s the first time I’ve encountered a woman this resilient, especially an Omega, risking her life for her dreams. The others who feel oppressed... They need to see her. They need to be inspired by what she’s achieved.’
The moment was broken by a sharp tapping at the door. They both turned to look and found Evan standing there.
"Your Highness, the officials from the Silver Pines region have arrived. They are waiting in the study room of the residence."
Dominick’s soft expression vanished. He glanced back at Jeniva one last time. "Finish your preparations. I have some heads to roll. We will talk later in the evening." With that, he stepped out of the room and headed to the study with his beta.
