Live Strong in the Wilderness-Chapter 76: Everyone Should Have One
The mission can be refused, but the price is losing everything.
Rather than losing everything, they would rather take a chance.
After all, they can still give up in the end.
"I have a feeling that every team should have it, otherwise there wouldn’t be any challenge." Xia Bin glanced at his companion, Li Changsheng. He never thought there would be leopards within their activity range.
After all, they’ve been here for 14 days already.
"That makes it fair; if only we had this mission, it would be really frustrating." Li Changsheng looked around, chewing a piece of mushroom.
"There’s nothing we can do if we’re frustrated; after all, we’re already very lucky. Out of billions of people worldwide who signed up, we’re among the 1,000 chosen." Xia Bin looked at Li Changsheng, thinking he was a bit too overconfident.
The weak were eliminated from the start.
The remaining teams are all quite strong.
"That’s true, we’ve already earned 100,000. Hey, surviving every day brings in over 100,000. After all, in 500 days we’d have a billion." Li Changsheng touched his Hunting Bow, cautiously scanning the surroundings.
They spoke to attract the leopard out.
"Yeah, 100,000 in 100 days is nothing compared to a billion. Maybe, to the multinational alliance, not surviving 500 days is meaningless, so they made the gap so huge. This way, it pushes us to keep challenging ourselves." Xia Bin walked to a tree and waved at Li Changsheng.
"Look, are these the claw marks of a leopard?" Xia Bin asked, as he had never seen a leopard’s claw marks before.
"The marks are big and pretty deep, it must be." Li Changsheng said, then looked up at the large tree in front of him.
Leopards can climb trees, he knew that.
"Since there really are leopards, what do we do next?" Li Changsheng couldn’t help but ask, thinking Xia Bin might have better ideas.
"Hunt a larger animal, then set a trap nearby for the leopard. If it doesn’t come, then it’s just our bad luck. We’ll hold on as long as we can." Xia Bin shared his plan, something he’d thought about the night before, considering over ten hours had passed in the 52-hour challenge.
Li Changsheng looked at Xia Bin, thought for a moment, then nodded.
Finding a leopard in such a large forest isn’t easy; after all, they hadn’t encountered one before and didn’t know its active range.
Even if they found one, it might be difficult to deal with.
Leopards are powerful, it takes at least five or six hunters to dare take on one.
Setting traps would be much safer for them.
No matter how fierce the beast, once injured, its power reduces significantly, making it easier to handle.
If the traps don’t lure in a leopard, actively searching for one might not succeed either.
Just like Xia Bin said, if they can’t wait for it, they lose their equipment, but there’s still a chance.
Didn’t Stone Age humans rely on hunting and fishing for survival? They might be able to as well.
"This team of challengers is too pitiful, having to challenge a leopard."
"Leopards aren’t much less dangerous than tigers; they’re master hunters. I feel like these two are very likely to be out of luck."
"Husband, please be safe."
"Rare to see family members; too bad they can’t see these comments."
"How did they receive the mission anyway? It’s like they haven’t done anything."
"The organizers are an alien civilization, who knows what their rules are."
"Humans are just toys; challenging a leopard is too harsh. With just a weak Hunting Bow, they can’t handle it."
"I really hope they can complete the mission smoothly; otherwise, without losing something, how will they survive?"
While Group 19 was completing their mission, Xu Yi appeared at the waterhole area.
After placing the wildcat’s carcass in a spot, he crouched in a tree.
Their live stream was also discussing territory missions.
They were especially curious about whether Xu Yi would receive a territory mission, and when he would get it.
At the same time, they were worried whether Xu Yi and Lu Ke could complete it if they received the mission.
Because time was limited, there wasn’t much time to prepare traps and such.
Xu Yi waited the entire morning, seeing some birds come down, but they were too small, so he didn’t act.
By noon, no large animals appeared, and Xu Yi had to head back to camp empty-handed.
Today, Lu Ke wasn’t watching at the entrance.
After the wildcat incident, Lu Ke felt she should give Xu Yi more trust. Otherwise, Xu Yi might feel pressured.
"I’m back." Xu Yi announced, to avoid startling Lu Ke when he opened the door.
Then, Xu Yi opened the gate to the fence.
Lu Ke was making a large clay jar, already halfway done.
With the jar, they could preserve some food.
"Welcome back, how was today?" Lu Ke turned to glance at Xu Yi.
"Didn’t encounter any animals, came back empty-handed." Xu Yi said helplessly, spreading his hands.
"We still haven’t finished the leg of lamb, so it’s okay if you didn’t catch anything." Lu Ke said as she kneaded the clay, not wanting to see Xu Yi disappointed, so she consoled him.
"Yeah, not every outing results in success; hunting usually ends this way." Xu Yi knew well, hunting is more likely to come up empty than fishing.
After all, Xu Yi, in this world, truly had a grandfather who often came back empty-handed from hunting.
Lu Ke looked at Xu Yi’s expression; it wasn’t one of pretending to be relaxed, so she nodded.
She thought maybe she was overthinking, Xu Yi’s attitude was likely better than hers, not needing such comfort.
"Need the leg of lamb heated?" Xu Yi asked, heading towards the earthen kiln.
"It should be warm; I just added some charcoal half an hour ago." Lu Ke paused her work, preparing to wash her hands and have lunch.
Xu Yi took out a lamb leg, still steaming hot.
The two ate roast lamb again, not feeling tired of it at all.
After lunch, Xu Yi rested a bit, then continued the wood panel work from last night, carving square recesses.
Lu Ke continued with her clay jar, each doing their tasks.
Occasionally, they paused for some water and chatted a bit, not wasting any time.
This afternoon was very peaceful for Xu Yi and Lu Ke.
But for Xia Bin and Li Changsheng in the Group 19 live stream, it was busy and thrilling.
