Live Strong in the Wilderness-Chapter 105: Who Are You Calling Vain?
As they spoke, Lu Yao had already extracted the heart and liver from the animal in her hands and handed them to Wang Jin.
After taking them, Wang Jin went to clean them.
In the meantime, Lu Yao cut open another one and took out its heart and liver too.
Once Wang Jin had cleaned them, she used a very thin stone knife to slice both hearts and livers and placed them in a bowl.
Then, she took a piece of wood and spread a bit of oil on the stone slab.
"Sizzle."
The meat slices sizzled immediately as soon as they hit the stone slab, releasing a fragrant aroma of meat.
Wang Jin laid out over a dozen slices and, after grilling them for a while, flipped them over to continue cooking.
She then took out a bowl of saltwater and sprinkled some on top.
"Sis, eat up first." Wang Jin placed the grilled slices into a nutshell bowl and handed it to Lu Yao.
Lu Yao didn’t stand on ceremony; after all, all they had eaten that night was a little wild vegetable soup, not nearly enough to fill them up.
"How is it? Tasty?" Wang Jin asked while grilling.
"Mm, very delicious." Lu Yao nodded, feeling there was not quite enough.
A few minutes later, Wang Jin also started eating.
"It’s so good, much tastier than sheep heart and liver, the meat is so tender and fragrant. Sis, hurry, cut down some meat, let’s try grilling it." Wang Jin said as her mouth almost watered.
"Already done." Lu Yao directly handed over a piece of meat.
"Efficient." Wang Jin grinned and went to wash the meat.
"I really want to try Wanzi’s stone slab grilled meat; it seems very tasty."
"It really feels like everything on this planet is exceptionally delicious; every livestream gives that impression."
"No point in drooling; we can’t go there anyway."
"Wanzi did pretty well today, I thought she would cry."
"Without her cousin around, she would definitely have been scared to tears."
"Her cousin is really impressive, killing two with just a spear."
"If those animals grabbed you, they might go straight to the bone."
"Finally saw the creatures on this planet, thankfully they don’t look too strange, similar to animals from our world."
"I’m done watching, going out for some barbecue now."
The people in the livestream were attracted by the food, completely forgetting how scared Wang Jin and Lu Yao had been at first.
If they didn’t have the barricade, especially one with spikes, these animals might have attacked them today. They could very well have been forced to quit the game.
The barricade took Lu Yao and Wang Jin a significant amount of time to build, but the effect was obvious.
"Sis, do you think other groups have encountered unusual animals too?" Wang Jin asked while fastening the hide.
Lu Yao glanced at Wang Jin and didn’t answer.
After all, there was no point in answering.
Here on an alien planet, isn’t encountering unique creatures normal?
Wang Jin stuck out her tongue, knowing her cousin wasn’t fond of chatting.
The previous question was a bit too dull.
"Why don’t we have any territory tasks? Didn’t Xu Yi say everyone has territory tasks?" Wang Jin scraped the fat off the hide with a stone knife; she had processed several pieces of hide and knew how to do it.
Their hides were also being smoked, given Lu Yao’s professional training on how to handle these matters.
"He said ’should’, not that everyone does. After all, he, like us, doesn’t know everything about this world and the challenges." Lu Yao said and then handed another hide to Wang Jin.
"Honestly, I don’t want any tasks; dealing with wolves isn’t an easy thing." Wang Jin took the hide and set it aside, having not finished with the one in her hand; tasks should be done one by one.
"Even if we were to take one, it may not be wolves we’re dealing with. Recently, we haven’t heard wolf howls. Maybe Xu Yi and they killed that pack." Lu Yao said as she began slicing the meat into pieces with a machete, setting them aside.
"True, we’re in the same area, likely within that pack’s territory. Ideally, there’s only one territory task per area, then we wouldn’t have to take that task." Wang Jin said excitedly, feeling that actively challenging a wolf pack was too dangerous.
"If the organizers could let us live so peacefully, they wouldn’t need to design this challenge." Lu Yao looked at Wang Jin, sensing her sister was a bit naive.
If they were that kind, they’d simply open the Star Gate. Why make a ’challenge game’ to send 500 groups here?
"The organizers’ intentions are really hard to fathom. Do you think they’re watching us?" Wang Jin couldn’t help but glance at the filming orb as she spoke.
"Who knows, whether they watch or not makes little difference to us." Lu Yao thought as long as she and Wang Jin survived for 500 days, she’d have reached her goal and completed the task.
"True, they can’t possibly find me adorable and send extra tools or lower the difficulty." Wang Jin said with a self-deprecating laugh.
"Do you act this vain during your livestreams too?" Lu Yao asked, not seeing what was cute about her sister at all.
"What do you mean vain, sis, you really aren’t good at chatting!" Wang Jin said helplessly, glancing at Lu Yao before looking at the filming orb.
Her expression seemed to say: "Am I not adorable?"
"It’s not the first day you’ve been critical; I’m indeed not good at chatting with girls." Lu Yao admitted frankly.
"..." Wang Jin rolled her eyes and kept her mouth shut.
Focus on work, speak less.
Once Wang Jin had secured both hides and removed the fat, Lu Yao had nearly finished slicing the meat from two animals.
Wang Jin didn’t stop to rest; instead, she used grass to hang the meat slices, which still needed to be smoked dry.
The two of them stayed busy until past two in the night, only then having hung all the meat.
"Haven’t slept this late in a long time; tomorrow I’m waking up later." Wang Jin stretched, her shoulders feeling a bit sore.
Lu Yao cracked her neck and nodded, saying, "Go to bed quickly; I won’t wake you tomorrow morning."
Wang Jin happily nodded and then went inside to sleep.
However, the next morning, she was quickly awakened.
Of course, it wasn’t Lu Yao who woke her, but a flock of birds.
The skeletons of the two animals from yesterday hadn’t been cleaned up, so they noisily woke them first thing.
Lu Yao, wielding a Slingshot, had already shot down two of the birds.
