Life didn't get easier, even in another world-Chương 415: Return it back to you
Chương 415: Return it back to you
A sudden tremor ran down all over the ground as a loud voice echoed everywhere. The ground shook as if the earth was about to split open and the skies roared up akin to the fury of the gods.
Reynold barely held himself up and looked at the sky. Far in the distance, unknown objects were slowly becoming visible. It was as if the nearby planets were getting closer to them or the night sky was splitting into various parts. It was truly a horrific and mesmerizing scene.
The young lad couldn't take his eyes off the sky.
"Reyn, move aside from there right now!"
BANGGG
A loud voice reverberated in the area. Roy had smashed against the barrier with a fist clad in golden electric currents. The barrier shook and a few parts of it broke down, yet before the redhead could pass through it, it was restored back to normal.
Reynold had his hand atop the machine at the center, the machine that was rotating faster than ever.
"So you wanted to use yourself as the power source, huh?" Reynold shook his head at the statement. His voice, already low, was now barely audible in the chaos that was being unfolded and his body, thin and weak, was barely standing firm on the platform using the link between himself and the machine.
A surge of energy was running up from his hand to his arm and to his heart. Reynold clicked his tongue at the tingling sensation.
"You must've gone crazy after leaving this world for a few days and meeting that god or whatever else," Reynold shouted, intending his every word to reach the ears of the man who was slamming against his barrier with all his might. "Save this world by sacrificing yourself? Are you out of your mind? Was that the deal you made with The Reason? To die a useless death?"
"Reyn! Stop it! Stop it and dome down!"
BOMMMMM
A huge ball of golden electric currents slammed against the barrier, yet it didn't break at all! The barrier was constantly being fed by its master, the master who was directly using the power of the Chaos Wave through the installed machine.
"What will come of the other worlds if you die here like this?"
WROMMMMMMM
As soon as Reynold's shout echoed in the temple, another shockwave ran through the ground, this time not due to the invading Chaos but the result of the activation of a system built through four connected temples.
ZAAAAAAAAP
ZAAAAAAAAAP
ZAPPPPPPPPPP
From three locations in the distance, three pillars of crimson light shot up into the air, and akin to hunger-driven snakes, they ran across the sky to reach each other and collided in one place. At a central spot, right above Reynold's head.
Tickle
As the machine under his hand made a strange noise, the collided pillars of light, all gathered into one round sphere, descended to the ground, creating a fourth pillar thicker and brighter than the other four.
"Reyn! Reynold!"
"My soul is much weaker than yours, but it still can be used up like this."
This time, Reynold talked in a low voice unlike a few seconds ago, not out of his own will but because he didn't have the energy left to speak.

He didn't expect it to hurt this much. Thinking that he'd already experienced the worst of pains due to his damaged soul, he assumed he could take it, yet it was proven harder than he imagined. Every inch of his body was burning up, and each cell was melting down, regenerating only to be melted down again. He could feel hot liquid bursting out from his eyes, nose, and ears, and small and large cuts appearing all around his limbs. His body was being chopped down to pieces.
BOOMMMMMM
Another strong force slammed against his barrier, the attack so bright and brimming that Reynold mistook it for the sun for a moment. Seemed like his dear mister Roy was doing his best to pass through the barrier, yet there was no way he'd succeed as Reynold was constantly repairing the barrier using Chaos.
The barrier wouldn't fall unless he fell.
"Did you... Intend to... Just set yourself... Free?"
His mister was truly stupid.
The first time they spoke about this plan when Reynold was bust a sickly child, Roy had told him about his plans, about his goals to stop this Chaos that his country has created. There was a firm determination in his crimson eyes back then and a glint of hope. Reynold believed this man could achieve anything if he put his mind to it.
But now? He planned on using himself as a mere power source to save a single world, and then disappear forever.
No, maybe, he still had a plan up to his sleeve, something along the lines of, 'With my soul destroyed, the whole universal powers will release to push back and cancel as much as Chaos that's possible. This will save many worlds,' or some such.
Such nonsense.
Who needed his sacrifice? Would he be able to save every single world out there by doing such a thing?
As his thoughts wandered on, a thin, crimson barrier was gradually being cast atop the dome of the world as if a shield was forming to protect the land. A shield made out of blood.
'Ah, pure bullshit.'
These were the justifications Reynold had lined up for himself, to reason his plans and make his actions seem rational, but in the end, none of these excuses, none of this lengthy talk about stopping Roy from dying here so that he could save other worlds, were the true reason for Reynold's last plan.
"So... Heartless..."
This man, this cruel man, did he intend on killing himself right after they met up after so many years? He intentionally brought Reynold with him to the temple, probably thinking that he could spend some more days with the boy before leaving him forever, right? He even brought Arthur so that he would stop Reynold if he wanted to interfere with the process.
It was so mean.
What about him? What about Reynold?
Had he waited all those years for this?
Streams of red were oozing out from his eyes. Reynold looked to be crying blood. It wasn't clear if he really was shedding tears or if it was due to his internal injuries. His face was in fact, a mess of blood and several large cuts. His whole body was tattered, gradually crumbling down.
In his blurred gaze, Reynold saw his red-haired mister weakly collapsing down to the ground. It seemed he'd exhausted himself to the brim and had no power left, neither had he any mental energy to do anything.
His voice was void of the previous anger and his face, his pretty, always gentle face, was shadowed with an indescribable horror. The look of terror and his scream of agony could clearly be seen and heard even in the chaos, even through the barrier, and even with the boy's almost lost senses.
'I too am so cruel.'
To forcefully stop a man from seeking eternal freedom, to leave him with a burden to carry, to ruin all the plans he'd worked on for several years.
Reynold was also a heartless one.
When he thought of the possibility of this method being used in Roy's new plan, he was frustrated out of his mind. He wanted to storm into the man's room and beat him up. Yet, knowing that it was too late to modify things at the moment, he decided to act oblivious; acting ignorance until he could replace the man's position on this platform.
He thought about various things after making up his mind about using his soul to power up the shield of protection. He had been in a near-death situation not long ago and has been struggling with his illness for so long. His mind was long ready to leave this land and die. His only goal was to meet up with Roy just once again before his death.
However, in the past weeks, in the few days he regained his health and was given a chance to move on with life, he'd thought about various things he'd never dreamt of. He thought of creating an orphanage, building up schools, and teaching many children. He dreamt of traveling with his friend and searching for that man's 'way of the sword' that he talked about a lot. He dreamt of forming a family and having children; he wanted to raise his kids as best as he could. He wanted to be an excellent father like his mister.
He who had never dreamt about anything that might've happened only a few months in the future, had started to form an ideal life for himself and those close to him.
And the sweet dream was hard to let go of.
'I'm such a greedy one.'
What would happen to those children under his care now? What about his village? What bout his friend?
He was the selfish one there. The one who ruined everything only because he didn't want to lose one person.
Didn't he have the right to protect those precious to him? He'd already lost everyone he had. Couldn't he keep just one person alive?
The barrier, by now, had reached the horizons and was probably expanding all over the other side of the planet as well. There wasn't much time left.
"Mister..."
Mustering all his remaining energy, Reynold spat out a few words in the loudest voice he could talk in at the moment.
"...You... cough... You gave me a life..."
This man was the person who saved him. He was the person who gifted Reynold a new life.
"I'll..."
Huff. He took several breaths and gasped multiple times. As his body weakly plopped down, his gaze moved up to the sky.
"...Return it back to you."
The sky was all red.
'Ah, red.'
Back in his miserable days, Reynold used to dislike red. His whole family was covered in this color in his last memory of them.
He didn't hate the color later. He soon came to like it. Crimson was the color of blood, but so was it the color of his savior's hair.
Crimson was such a lovely color.
ZAAAAPPPPP
It was already the time.
As soon as the shield was done, a last pillar of light was created. And the fourth pillar hit right where the fourth machine was, the platform made slightly above the ground. The boy leaning weakly against the rotating machine.
BOMMMMMM
Crimson.
Now, even Reynold was cloaked in crimson.
