Legendary FBI Detective-Chapter 271: Making Calls to Clean Up... Managing the Scene
On a mountain road near Los Angeles, a Porsche burns fiercely. Luo An stands with his back to the flames, his face cold as ice, clutching an M4A1 he'd taken, staring intently at the driver in front of him.
The middle-aged white male driver is cursing furiously in his mind at their team's temporary leader who had ordered them to silence Luo An and Mona on a whim:
They're just a couple out on a wilderness date, not looking to provoke us at all. Why did we have to mess with them?
Now look, both of his teammates have been killed in turn, and he's got a gun to his head.
Thinking back to the moment Luo An pulled him from the car, the driver's face turns alternating shades of red and white. If by some luck he survives today, he swears he'll take that temporary leader down.
Seeing the driver's face change colors, Luo An cocks the M4A1 with a "click" and asks directly:
"Talk or not?"
"I'll talk! I'll talk!"
The driver clutches his excruciatingly painful abdomen and shouts hurriedly:
"My name is Henry! I'm a mercenary!"
Elsewhere, Mona emerges from behind a large rock, still holding a pistol she had found on one of their enemies.
Her expression is also very grim, not just because of the recent life-or-death danger they faced, but also because her expensive red dress now sports several cuts.
This is my most expensive dress!
As she approaches the driver, Mona kicks him vigorously in the back and asks sharply with her pistol aimed:
"Why did you attack us?"
"#$%&@..."
A kick from a high heel is no small ordeal. The driver curses that temporary leader again in his mind and answers with a twisted face:
"It was just an accident!"
The driver's explanation aligns nearly with Luo An's previous hunch—seeing Luo An and Mona witness the scene, they had decided to kill them as well, just to cover their tracks.
After hearing the driver's explanation, Mona kicks him fiercely again.
Luo An continues his interrogation:
"Who's in the Porsche? Why were you chasing them?"
"I don't know."
"Hmm?"
Luo An presses the rifle in his hand against the driver, who shouts urgently:
"Sorry, I'm not lying to you! I really don't know!"
The driver explains they were only put together as a temporary team, and only that temporary leader knew the details of their mission. They were merely informed to kill a person and given a description of the face.
"That's really cautious."
Luo An scoffs disdainfully and, ignoring the driver's pleas, lifts the butt of his gun and knocks him out.
Mona, noticing her once-pristine red dress is now a mess, kicks the driver several more times in her growing annoyance.
Turning to the still burning Porsche and two corpses on the ground, Mona tears a piece of cloth from her dress to tie up her hair and asks:
"Luo An, what do we do now?"
"This is my new Porsche... I can't just let this go!"
Luo An slings the M4A1 over his shoulder, determined to reclaim the money for his car from these mercenaries or that Porsche driver, or else he won't be able to sleep again.
Pulling out his phone, he calls the Los Angeles FBI, asking them to send a cleanup crew... to process the scene. After a moment of thought, Luo An also decides to call Reesi.
The call was connected promptly, and before Luo An could even speak, he was greeted with Reesi's alarmed voice from the other end of the phone:
" Luo An! The public security here in Los Angeles is terribly poor! In the dead of night, there's still a group blatantly racing and shooting at others on the streets!"
"…The public security here isn't really that good."
Hearing the continuous wail of police sirens in the background of Reesi's words, the corner of Luo An's mouth twitched. He briefly recounted the incident he and Mona just experienced and concluded by saying:
"Looks like you're working overtime, Reesi. Go there immediately and see what's going on tonight."
"…Alright."
Upon learning that Luo An and Mona had almost been killed, Reesi accepted the command without wasting any words.
After making plans to see her female companion again next time, Reesi somehow acquired a brand-new motorcycle, donned a helmet, and sped off following the route of the sports cars.
At this moment, the entire western part of Los Angeles was filled with the sound of police sirens, and many roads were in complete chaos.
Sports cars racing at night isn't a big deal, but it's unacceptable when a gang of armed thugs openly pursues and shoots people, which is why a bunch of LAPD officers were mobilized to encircle these lawless criminals.
A few higher-ranking LAPD officers even made a call to the FBI, as they believed they had seen rocket launchers in the possession of these thugs.
Standing on the mountain road, Luo An and Mona could faintly see the messy glares of lights in the distance, expecting that the Los Angeles Branch of the FBI would send someone soon. However, it wasn't until forty-some minutes later that four FBI agents finally arrived, fashionably late.
These four agents were acquaintances of Luo An and Mona, members of the second investigation team, led by none other than Agent Ywei (Chapter 227).
Seeing that there were only four agents arriving, Mona was a bit astonished, while Luo An's eyes narrowed slightly, quietly taking note of the situation.
It should be noted that although Luo An and the others hadn't officially started working at the FBI Los Angeles Branch, their designations and identity information had already been transferred to the internal system of the Los Angeles Branch.
Luo An's position was temporarily continuing as Deputy Section Chief of the investigation team, and an attack on a deputy team leader received such a delayed and minimal response from the FBI.
What did this imply?
It either meant that someone at the FBI Los Angeles Branch headquarters had been informed, or that when people were sent here, the agents were obstructed by others!
"Very good."
Watching Mona exchanging pleasantries with Ywei, a warm smile slowly emerged on Luo An's face.
Before this, he had no idea who his enemies were, but with tonight's incident, Luo An will know who they are.
On the other side, the four agents were somewhat surprised by the scene before them, and after hearing from Mona that neither she nor Luo An was armed but Luo An had single-handedly killed three people, the agents looked at Luo An with eyes full of shock.
The second investigation team's Agent Ywei was also dumbfounded; instinctively, she turned her gaze towards Luo An, and seeing his smiling face waving at her, she shivered violently as she noticed the pile of minced flesh not far from his feet.
Ywei had realized from the previous bombing incident that Luo An was a ruthless person, but seeing the current scene, she acknowledged that she had vastly underestimated him.
The agents silently began to process the crime scene, looking at Luo An with some admiration.
Luo An didn't care, and once the scene was somewhat tidied up, he approached Agent Ywei and asked with a smile:
"You've worked hard. By the way, why did the FBI Los Angeles Branch building send you guys?"
Cleaning up… this kind of task isn't really the job of an investigation team's agents.
"Well… actually, it wasn't a notice from the Branch building, but Group Leader Owen who sent us."
Ywei tilted her head in thought, choosing not to hide anything, she softly said:
"There was a minor scuffle in Los Angeles City. Several investigation teams went there to check it out.
When the Branch building issued the notice that your location needed manpower, the team leader of the fourth investigation team said that Los Angeles City needed people more urgently, so your situation was prioritized afterward."
"Oh, the team leader of the fourth investigation team."
Upon hearing this, Luo An's smile became even more radiant:
"Ywei, could you tell me the name of this fourth investigation team leader?"
