Legendary FBI Detective-Chapter 123: The Truth of the Case and Luo An’s Promotion
The situation behind this case is not complicated.
A year ago in that operation, John King, for the sake of money, sent soldiers into hell, but Jacques was lucky enough to survive.
After the post-operation investigation, the CIA hierarchy was aware of John King's corruption leading to the mission's failure.
While contemplating how to deal with John King, the CIA accidentally learned from the NSA that Jacques was still alive.
Thus, within the CIA, the faction led by Lady Heloise planned to take the opportunity to let Jacques exact revenge and kill John King, after which they would then deal with Jacques themselves.
This way, they could erase the scandal of CIA officials profiting off the lives of foot soldiers, while also striking a blow to the internal power supporting John King and seizing benefits and leverage.
The CIA hierarchy is uncontrolled, a standalone department, mainly operating outside of federal jurisdiction, hence its internal factions are more complicated, with entrenched power struggles that have never ceased since its inception.
The plan of Lady Heloise's faction was ideal, but reality does not proceed as smoothly as they hoped.
Because Jacques served as a sniper in the military, Lady Heloise and her cohort naturally assumed that Jacques would use long-distance sniping to take revenge on John King.
What they did not expect was that upon returning to federal territory, Jacques did not seek immediate revenge, but instead found an accomplice and began to purchase materials to make bombs.
Lady Heloise's group knew that Jacques was preparing a bomb, but they were unclear about what the bomb's delivery mechanism would be, so they immediately started to investigate "Thomas's" identity.
However, before they could figure it out, the car accident occurred, drawing attention from the New York FBI Criminal Investigation Department.
There is a hierarchy of contempt among various departments in America; the CIA has always looked down on the FBI.
Therefore, regarding the FBI's involvement in the investigation, Lady Heloise simply sneered, not taking it seriously at all.
She didn't believe that this so-called Team Five would have any impact on their plans.
In her view, maybe even after their plan was completely finished, Team Five would still be researching the interpersonal relationships of the car accident victim, Ivande.
Then that agent named Luo An Greenwood, along with his team, taught Lady Heloise a good lesson.
They captured the crew-cut white male and sent him to the hospital, followed up by video evidence that something was off with the ambulance driver, which led them to the hideout where Thomas and Jacques had stayed, and even later discovered John King's identity...
Luo An's series of actions were like a slap on Lady Heloise's wrinkled old face.
Especially after learning that Luo An had already driven to John King's place of work with his team, Lady Heloise could no longer hold it in and exploded, screaming into her cellphone.
However, Lady Heloise still underestimated Luo An because Luo An not only captured "Thomas" before her subordinates could act but also saw through the identity of her subordinates and kept "Thomas" securely in FBI custody...
The following thoughts were in Vireness's mind; she did not share them with Lady Heloise, but merely swallowed and prepared to reward Luo An more generously later.
"Lady Heloise,"

After briefly recounting the CIA's original counterplot and the progression of events, Vireness leaned back, crossed her legs, and asked coldly,
"Is there anything incorrect about what I just said?"
Holding her phone, standing in the corner of the conference room, Lady Heloise, after listening to Vireness's narrative that largely matched their own plan, and seeing the disdain in the other's eyes, frowned tightly and cursed inwardly.
But Lady Heloise, being advanced in years and experienced, regained her composure very quickly.
Taking a deep breath, Lady Heloise turned and sat down, crossing her hands on the tabletop, and looked emotionlessly at Vireness, saying,
"Madam Team Supervisor, I have only one answer to your question, and that is no..."
"No comment, I know."
Vireness waved her hand nonchalantly, interrupting Lady Heloise before she could finish speaking.
This gesture darkened Lady Heloise's face once again.
But Vireness's action that displeased Lady Heloise was not the only one. Vireness continued,
"I have already reported the entire course of this case to my superiors."
"After consulting with the Federal Prosecutor's Office, my superiors have agreed to the request for Team Five to withdraw from investigating this case."
This sentence means that the New York FBI has communicated with the Federal Prosecutor's Office regarding the explosion that occurred at its entrance.
After the communication, Team Five will no longer handle the follow-up matters, and it will be the CIA's responsibility to take care of the mess it has created.
Hearing this, Lady Heloise's cheeks twitched, and she almost let out a curse.
The FBI was making it clear that they did not want to deal with this hot potato, and then threw it back to the CIA.
Vireness glanced at the other party's wrinkled old face and curled her lips into a scornful smile as she stood up and walked towards the meeting room's door.
"By the way, Lady Heloise, there's one more thing."
As she reached the door of the meeting room, it was as if Vireness suddenly remembered something, slapped her forehead, the corners of her mouth turned up slightly, and she tilted her head to say:
"The FBI New York Branch will soon issue a wanted notice for Jacques, with a bounty of 1 million US Dollars.
This money will be paid by the CIA."
It was the CIA's achievement that allowed for the fast issuance of this warrant, since the explosion happened right at the entrance of the Federal Prosecutor's Office.
Having said that, a smile crossed Vireness's face, then she turned, pulled open the meeting room's door, and strode out.
Inside the meeting room, Lady Heloise's lips quivered, and her face turned green with anger, to the point where she nearly vomited blood after hearing Vireness's words.
"Damn Jacques! Damn FBI!"
---
Half an hour later, "Thomas" was brought into Team Five's interrogation room.
Luo An and Reid returned to their desks to drink a cup of coffee, preparing to rest for a while before interrogating the other party.
At this moment, Vireness and Augustus suddenly walked over.
"Chief."
Luo An, Reid, Mona, and Reesi, among others, seeing this, hurriedly greeted them.
"Everyone has worked hard today."
Vireness was in a good mood. She waved her hand to tell everyone there was no need for formalities and to take a seat, then handed Luo An the folder in her hand, and said in a calm voice:
"Luo An, here are the documents for your promotion to Senior Agent, sign here."
Clap clap clap—
"Congratulations! Luo An!"
When they heard what Vireness said, Augustus, Reid, Reesi, and the others smiled and began clapping for Luo An in unison.
Mona also clapped while looking enviously at Luo An.
"Thank you, Chief."
Taking the folder, Luo An signed his name at the bottom of the first page under the promotion documents with a face full of smiles. Then, he noticed there was another paper behind it.
Flipping it over, it turned out to be a notice of rank advancement from the Columbus Foundation.
Originally, when Luo An was a regular agent, his annual return rate within the foundation was already at the level of a Senior Agent.
Now that Luo An had become a Senior Agent, the annual return rate within the foundation would elevate to the level of a Supervisory Special Agent, that is, the team leader's level.
Seeing this, Luo An snapped the folder shut, his smile broader than ever:
"Thank you, Chief, for your support and assistance!"
Vireness nodded, and then tilted her head towards the interrogation room next door.
