Chapter 29 - Mazekin Dimitri(3)

The Ravenspire Guildhall is a sturdy stone building. Its dark walls stand strong against the falling snow. A sloped roof, covered in a thin layer of white, keeps the cold at bay. The entrance has heavy wooden doors reinforced with iron and a carved raven emblem above them.

I ascended the stone stairs towards the heavy doors.

-Creak.

I slowly opened the door to the warmth of the guild. The smell of burning wood filled the air as the fire crackled in the hearth. The voices of people—Who are here to take the Mazekin test—Buzzed in the huge hall of the guild. Talking to each other, sharing the latest gossip or discussing about the upcoming test.

But as soon as I entered their gaze shifted towards me.

They looked at me with something that I only started seeing recently.

Wariness.

Admiration.

Jealousy.

A few of them scoffed and continued their chats. The girls again averted my gaze as if looking at me was a sin. Some of them wanted to approach me but seemed hesitant or should I say they fear me?

"Is everyone here?"

A female voice interrupted my thoughts. I turned my head towards the direction and saw a woman—She was wearing a black and white uniform and had a piece of paper in her hands, meaning she was a staff of the Ravenspire Guild.

Her eyes met mine and then she trembled and averted my gaze. The grip on the paper in her hands tightened.

'What the fuck is happening?'

[Don't mind too much you are gonna see that reaction more often. Right, System Croft?]

[You—]

Paying no heed to the two voices fighting in my head, I focused on the guild woman who just regained her composure.

"If everyone here is present then let us continue," She began her tone unwavering and diligent.

"From now on, we will conduct the Mazekin examination. In this examination there are three types of tests—First is the written test, second is the Mana Assessment test and third is the Combat Practical test."

"The written test will challenge your knowledge about different types of Mana Beasts, their weaknesses, their strengths and traits. And yes, Mana stones. For the Mana Assessment, we will find your mana core stage and determine your current rank."

"And as for the Combat practical," She smirked, her gaze sweeping around us all right before stopping at me, "You already know. You will fight."

"And as for who you will fight it will depend upon your rank determination from the Mana Assessment. If your Rank is determined to be D—Then you will fight a D-ranked guild member."

'Well, I knew all of that already'

She looked around the room again, seeing if everyone here understood the details of the exam and then parted her lips, "Then, shall we start?"

Every people in the room nodded in unison including me.

After that, all participants were taken through the written exam which was two hours long. All of us were seated in five different rooms—fifteen people per room. The rooms were filled with long benches with two people on one bench.

As soon as we sat down, the question paper along with sheet paper was given to us. The questions were quite easy:

"How does a mana stone form?"

"List a few weaknesses of the Galeva also known as the wind harpies".

"Why do draugrs form in the Dungeon?"

Simple questions. That even a toddler can handle. If someone can't answer these—they are either dumbfucks or they are drunk. That is all.

I trod along, scribbling the answers on the sheet given to us and about one and a half hours later after answering like 50 questions. I submitted the paper and headed for the Mana Assessment Room.

I made my through the hallway to the room where the Mana Assessment was going on. I opened the door to the room and stepped inside.

The room consisted of a few wooden chairs for the participants to sit in while waiting for their turn. In the middle of the room was an obsidian black pedestal, atop which a crystalline orb was kept.

Sweeping my gaze throughout the room I spotted three more people. I was the fourth one to arrive. The three of them consisted of two girls and one boy.

The boy had auburn hair and black eyes, his facial features were sharp and his body was more than lean—It inclined more towards strength class shapes. Which meant he was a warrior using a heavy weapon. His clothes were not anything special simple gray tunic with black pants.

My gaze then fell upon the two girls—One had light blue hair like mine, tied in a ponytail that reached behind her shoulders. Her green eyes were focused on a book. She was wearing white attire like that of a priest. Which showed her class to be a mage.

Sitting beside her was the other girl—Beautiful raven-black hair that was let loose and blue eyes like the sky, she had a bow slung around her right shoulder. She was wearing a tight-fitted attire which allowed for smooth and fast movements. And her class was obvious—An Archer.

The boy's gaze turned towards me and a friendly smile graced his face as he waved towards me. I waved back at him with a crafted smile—Still can't trust them, they were strangers. I slowly made my way towards them.

"Hello," I greeted the three of them.

"Yo," The boy replied his smile widening. 'Why do I think he is going to be annoying?'

"H-hello," The blue-haired mage greeted me back with an awkward smile, her eyes twitching. She seemed to be the scheming type so I should be careful. Those who smile the brightest are the darkest.

"Hello," The voice devoid of any emotions came from the archer girl. She seemed to be the cold type—the one I definitely don't like. Reminds me of someone.

"Mind if I take a seat?" I asked gesturing towards an empty chair.

"Nope,"

"No, please take a seat,"

"No,"

Hearing their responses I sat beside the four in the wooden chair and leaned my back on it. There was still time till the start of the Mana Assessment, so I should clear my mind a bit. Tomorrow I have to go and rescue Aeris and lay down the foundation for the Covenant.

"Hey," The boy nudged me, "What's your name?"

The ears of the mage girl perked upon hearing the question, her lips parted "Why don't we introduce ourselves?"

"Sure," I replied.

"No problem,"

"..."

She looked at all of us and started first, "I am Riana Von Augustin,"

'Sounds familiar and wait, she is a noble!?'

"Wait you are a noble?" The boy asked the question I had in mind.

"Yes, I am from House Augustin," She replied smiling.

Oh no, a noble. I should stay away. But that house name sounds familiar, where did I hear it?

[She is related to Micheal's fiancee, Lyra Von Augustin] Dante reminded me.

'Yeah, I forgot about her'

"Now, it's my turn," The boy stood up from his chair and puffed his chest, "I am Ezekiel, and I trying to be Greatsword master."

'He really might be the annoying type'

Our gaze now settled on the archer who was sitting quietly crossing her arms.

"And you?" Riana asked her tilting her head.

"Collete," She replied curtly.

And then all of their gazes fell on me. Ezekiel and Riana looked towards me with curiosity in their eyes while Collete only spared me a glance from the sides.

"Dimitri Novikov," I replied a small smile tugged at my lips, "Nice to meet you all,"

Why do I get the feeling that I might see these three again? And that it won't be a pleasant meeting.

Should I kill them now?
