Chapter 68: Broken Blades

"Ehh! Seriously, our first raid?!" Darius moved out of the way, letting Theo walk in.

Theo let himself in, taking off his shoes, he walked into the living room.

"Yeah, I got the message from the association saying we were ready to go as a mercenary guild, that way we can look for three more members to become part of us. Then we can call ourselves a guild."

He turned to look at Darius, and he noticed how he had tied his hair back, and the chaotic side of him was docile while he was inside the house with his sister.

"Never thought you would look like a responsible person, suits you." He smiled.

Darius turned to look at him, his face all squeezed up like a grumpy dwarf from scary books.

"I don’t like those compliments, and if you want to keep your front teeth, I would suggest you stop smiling like that," Darius said so calmly that it didn’t look like a threat but a soft warning.

"Okay, Okay." Theo laughed. He pulled out two of the meal bags he had with him. "Here, there are three wraps of Chicken Sandwiches and Cupcakes."

A goofy smile appeared on Darius’s face, he snatched the bags in the blink of an eye.

"So, you brought food. I will eat it later, Lena made pancakes." He said, his voice showing how proud he was.

"Pancakes?" Theo looked puzzled, he watched Darius as he walked into the kitchen.

When Darius came back he had a plate full of pancakes in his hand, a smile on his face.

"Now we can talk about the raids, what do you have in mind?" Darius placed the plate on the table, and he looked at Theo, who had his eyes on him.

"Okay, you are being creepy, if I may I ask why?" He was looking at his fellow warrior as he took a pancake from the plate, shoving it into his mouth.

Theo shook his head, he looked at Darius with a smile on his face.

"It’s just that a few days ago, I saw you almost pass out, you were shaking, and the tattoo on your left hand was glowing." He pointed to Darius’s left hand and the serpentine dragon tattoo.

"I was only worried that something might have happened to you." Theo shared his worry and there was nothing else that made him look at Darius that way.

The moment he mentioned the tattoo glowing, it made Darius remember the beings he had seen and the fact that he needed to brace himself for anything that would be popping up.

"Yeah, I’m fine." He smiled, he was trying his best not to show his worry. "It was just the tattoo reacting after the rank tests; aside from that, there was nothing else."

Darius scratched his head with a smile on his face, he was looking at Theo. He was doing his best to make sure that he didn’t let him worry much, so he wouldn’t end up dragging him into something like that.

"So the raids, when are they going to be ready?" Darius changed the topic back to the issue of the raids and the guild matter.

Theo understood what Darius was trying to do, he was looking at him but then he didn’t want to push it. Turning back to the table, he opened the file and pulled a paper out.

"We would be heading for one by the weekend, so that will be the first raid then we can look for other members there."

Darius was intrigued; he knew how important it was if they were going to be able to get a recruit. "Hmm, weekend. I might run down to Tegeshi’s shop to get new energy gauntlets, reinforced ones."

"Huh, I thought you had the one for S-ranks. What happened to it?" Theo was looking at his white-haired partner, he saw the usual goofy smile on his face.

"I sorta broke it on a solo raid," Darius spoke a bit nervously. He glanced at Theo, who looked shocked to hear that he managed to break S-tier weapons.

"Well, you are SS-ranked after so I would expect that much from you..." He turned back to the files and pulled out another one; it was one with the heading Guild, but there was a space before Guild.

"What’s this?" Darius asked, he was looking at the file.

"That is our confidential file, we need to place it for approval in the lobby. So we would be recorded as a new guild, but there is no name for us yet, and I am still thinking of one." He lay back on the couch, looking defeated.

"Turns out that there is no point in making a cool name, the ones I thought of sounds cocky and make it look like a bunch of preschoolers who discovered some comic."

Darius drew the file close to himself, he looked into it and he saw all the names Theo had thought of.

"Well, with the name Ravengers, we would look like a bunch of assassins rather than warriors." He smiled mockingly.

"I was thinking, okay! Sheesh, I know it sounds bad." Theo looked at Darius with a death stare.

"Sorry, sorry. I was only saying." Darius laughed as he focused on the paper once more. He reached out for it, and he paid more attention to it.

"You still know why we are opening the guild, right?" He turned to his partner, Theo looked at him with an odd look on his face.

"A guild that is a family for anyone who doesn’t have one," he answered, looking at Darius. "What about it?"

"Exactly, we aren’t trying to pull in the people who see the association as a way to make money, but people who want more than that. A family of people with a different perspective on life."

Darius had a smile on his face, he was trying to show that there was more than he was seeing.

"So we are going to be recruiting people with different goals aside from money, people like us." Theo sat up, he looked down at the file. "Broken people, just like us, who want nothing to do with fame."

"Yeah, now it’s going to be a nice name that’s going to be a problem for us." Darius stroked his chin, he was looking at the file too, both he and Theo locked in focus trying to think of a name.

"Broken Blades?"

A voice came from behind, and they turned to see Lena standing there with a smile.

"Hey, I thought the little Troll said she was going to see Mrs. Chen." Darius quipped, looking at her.

"Well, Ogre, I was in the kitchen cleaning the remaining dishes." Lena made a face looking at Darius.

Darius got up and was about to grab Lena. "Why you.."

"What did you, Lena? You called a name, what was it?!" Theo held Darius back from even touching her.

Lena turned to him. She was a bit confused, but she answered. "Broken Blades,"

A huge smile formed on Theo’s face as he yanked Darius by the collar excitedly. "That’s it! The name of our Guild will be Broken Blades!"

Darius looked more haunted than thrilled, Theo shaking him into the afterlife.

"I am happy too, Theo, seriously, please stop shaking me." He pleaded, looking at him.

"Ah sorry, I was just happy." Theo turned and ruffled Lena’s hair. "Thank you, Lena, you saved us more time."

Lena had a beautiful smile on her face. "You’re welcome, Uncle Theo!"

Theo paused when he heard her call him uncle, his eyes went watery in an instant. Darius noticed it and shifted back a bit.

"What’s wrong, man? Did something enter your eye?"

Theo turned to him, and he held him by the shoulder. "Your sister called me Uncle Theo, does it mean you take me as a brother?"

"Not a chance," Darius replied without hesitation.

"Ah, killjoy." Theo pouted.

Lena seeing what was happening in front of her smiled and went closer to Theo’s ears and whispered."I see you as my new big brother."

Theo turned to her and hugged her with a smile.

"Even though I just met you, Uncle Theo is going to spoil you!!"

Darius got up from the couch with the plate in his hand. "Great, I have two trolls to deal with now."
