Chapter 64: The Knight’s Memories- Part 1

"You know Slav?" Darius was looking at Pryion, and he could see there was something he knew about Slav, and it was something very important.

"Slav the greed? The 12th scholar of the ouroboros?" Pryion stepped back a bit, looking at Darius, "He was one of the strongest adversaries I had ever faced in my long life as the Aeres’s champion."

Darius’s jaw dropped when he heard that Pryion had gone toe to toe with Slav. It was not clear what happened or how he knew the being, but he was sure that there was something more about it.

"What was he like? And why do I have a feeling he is way more than a crazy basilisk that tried to kill me..."

Pryion sat down on the floor, he was looking at Darius. "Do you wish for me to tell you about him?"

"Yes! Please, I need to know, maybe there will be a way to stop the visions I have been getting." Darius sat down, looking at Pryion, he didn’t want anything to keep surprising him.

Pryion cleared his throat a bit, he looked up at the empty ceiling in the training dimension. He slowly looked down at Darius, he stretched his hand.

"The only way for me to tell you what I know is by showing you." The knight was waiting for our young warrior to take his hand.

Darius stared at his hand, he was not sure he would be ready for anything that was going to happen there.

’Don’t get overwhelmed, Darius, this is something you need to do to make sure that you are ready for the next encounter with those beings.’ Azree chimed in, his words added a bit of courage to Darius’s heart.

"Here goes nothing!" He stretched his hand and placed it on the knight’s palm, immediately he was taken into another plane of reality. It was grey, void of life, and filled with wails that felt the cries of a million souls.

"Where are we?" He asked as he glanced around, trying to figure out where they were and what they were doing there.

"This is my subconscious, part of me, and the answers to the question you asked me." Pryion pointed at something, and Darius turned to look at it. He could see Aeres’s temple, the first place he had met Pryion and dueled with him.

"I only met Slav twice, the first was in a meeting with my former king, Aeres, Dragon King of Fire, and the second was on the battlefield."

Suddenly, they were pulled into the temple. Pryion could be seen kneeling to a majestic being in a red armored robe, black hair pouring down to his shoulder.

’Aeres.’ Darius thought to himself, he was looking at the memory to see what he would learn.

"Pryion, the other kings have assigned their champions to be ready to take the Avarian Orb from Slav and throw it into the prison realm." Aeres spoke with a thunderous voice; even Darius could feel the temple shaking from the mere majesty of his voice.

"Lord Aeres, I am but your humble blade, and I would do anything to take the orb from him." I was eager to please my lord, I wanted to make sure that I conquer each fight.

According to what I learned, Slav was born in the Basilisk race, one of the strongest races in the beast realm. They were the third strongest races after the Dragons and Phoenixes, but what made them stand out was the 12 scholars of the Ouroboros Dragon.

Those twelve would be called the Basilisk Sages, and Slav was the 12th scholar. While he was the weakest of the 12, he was the scariest of them all. The most feared even by the great divines.’

Darius was shocked to hear that there was something like that. How was he the weakest but also the scariest?

"How? What did he do to get to that point where even the divine feared him?" Our young warrior wanted to know what they meant when they said that he was the weakest but the most feared.

"They said he was the second person who looked into the all-seeing eyes of the ouroboros and never blinked, he gathered all the knowledge he could get." Pryion turned back to the memory, and Darius turned to see the temple door open.

Walking in was the same being he had faced as his first main obstacle, the one who still haunts his dreams.

Slav... He had a gnarly smile on his face, in his left hand was a staff that measured 80 inches, and on top of the staff was a dark crimson orb.

It could be seen outside that he had put the Salamandrian guardians to sleep. Aeres and Pryion stood in defensive positions.

"Aeres, I hear you and the other dragon kings are making plans to invade my temple and take the Avarice orb from me." He smiled. I could never explain what it was about him, but seeing Lord Aeres stand with caution made it clear that I was not meant to be joking.

"What is the meaning of this insult?" I drew my blade, ready to strike. "How dare you enter this temple and talk to Lord Aeres in that manner!"

Slav turned to me, a smile I couldn’t understand on his face. "Kneel, Child."

I felt the pressure of a thousand powerful hands push me to the ground, as I knelt to this being standing in front of me. I realised his words were not just words, but it was law wherever he stood.

Darius could feel the chills coming from standing close to them, even though it was a memory; he could feel the ominous aura coming from them.

’Was this the same Slav I faced?’

"Ah, so you’re Aeres’s loyal plaything. I wonder if he didn’t teach you how to respect your elders. What’s worse is that you are a knight who couldn’t even save his family from the children of the Abyss, and those are a very weak lot since they didn’t go with their older brother Ursu. But you failed to even save your family, so I wonder what makes you think you can speak to me?" He mocked me, I felt the pressure increase as I felt my armor cracking.

"What do you want here, Slav?" Lord Aeres spoke up, he was looking at Slav, ready to face him.

"What do I want?" Slav chuckled as he looked at Lord Aeres. he struck his staff on the ground, shaking the temple. "I have come to warn you, if you want to know, then I will tell you, I want you and your allies to stop trying to take the Avarian Orb."

"Ashran’s powers aren’t something to be trifled with, Slav, We want to keep the order!" Lord Aeres roared, his eyes glowed bright red. "Keeping the powers of chaos with you isn’t going to solve anything; you are only going to bring threats to the realms."

"And since you trapped his very essence inside that orb, how has it been for you? You unleashed the Children of the Abyss, you made the Veriths make a move, you even made the prison realm his very creation shake!"

The pressure on my body increased as I felt something dripping down from my nose. I looked and I saw dark, oozing blood dripping from my nose.

"All this doesn’t mean anything. Give us the Orb before the gods of Order come for it." Lord Aeres warned, looking at the being.

"Come for it?" Slav muttered, and an otherworldly aura leaked from his body, pushing me to the ground. Making my master a dragon King step back even further.

"LISTEN TO ME, AERES, DRAGON KING OF FIRE!" Slav pointed his staff at Lord Aeres’s face.

"Any of you who dares come to take that Orb from me, I will make sure even if your soul should enter the afterlife, even the fates won’t want anything to do with it! I will kill anyone who thinks that they would be able to do anything to take it from me!"

The entire temple shook, this being had the presence to make Aeres not move a muscle or even try to act. He turned and took his leave, I couldn’t even stay conscious to see him leave; only the mere force from his mana made me slumber.

I had only heard of him, but seeing him up close made it clear.

All the tales about him being able to kill gods wasnt a fable.

Darius was sweating profusely, looking at Slav, he could tell that the being didn’t use this same ability while fighting him.

"This isn’t the same Slav I faced." Darius couldn’t believe the horror he was witnessing in front of him, it was like standing in front of an erupting volcano. "It was like he was weakened or something."

"Slav has never been weakened in his life, his mere existence was the reason why the Kings didn’t make a move until you killed him." Pryion was looking at Darius, he turned back to the memory.

"The only reason why he was called the weakest is because he denied his allegiance with the Scholars of the Ouroboros, and followed the one whose power he sought to protect."

Darius’s eyes widened, and he turned to look at his knight. "Ashran."
