Chapter 159: 159: The Demons are here- Part 2
"Now, now, don’t think I forgot about you. It’s your turn to be taken care of."
She said, her voice carrying a dangerous edge.
Liam blinked in confusion, stepping back.
"What?"
Shelly didn’t give him time to question her motives. She swung her staff, sending a gust of wind toward him. It wasn’t meant to harm—it was a warning.
Liam raised an eyebrow.
"You can’t seriously think I’m your enemy right now, can you?"
Shelly smirked.
"I don’t trust you. And I don’t trust anyone who fights alongside demons."
Liam sighed, feeling a headache forming.
’I don’t have time for this.’
Before either of them could make another move, Silas let out a low, eerie chuckle, his voice reverberating through the trees.
"You two really don’t get it, do you? You won’t win. Not unless you get rid of me completely."
He sneered, his skeletal fingers twitching.
As he spoke, an ominous aura began to swirl around him. The earth trembled, the air thickening with dark energy.
Liam’s eyes widened.
’No—he’s going to transform again.’
Silas’s body began shifting, his form stretching unnaturally. His bones cracked as they elongated, growing into grotesque, jagged shapes.
His skull expanded, his hollow sockets glowing an even deeper crimson. The aura of death and decay radiating from him intensified, suffocating the atmosphere.
Liam clenched his fists.
’If he completes this transformation, we won’t be able to stop him.’
Shelly, too, seemed to realize the danger. She braced herself, her stance shifting as she prepared another spell.
But Liam knew that even if they combined their strength again, it wouldn’t be enough this time.
’Damn it, we’re running out of time.’
Then, in an instant, everything froze.
A powerful wave of energy crashed over them, snuffing out Silas’s transformation like a candle in the wind.
The dark energy surrounding him dispersed violently, leaving his form flickering between his incomplete transformation and his original skeletal body.
Silas let out a strangled gasp, his entire body convulsing. He clutched his chest as if something was tearing him apart from the inside.
"What—?"
A shadow moved at impossible speed, appearing between Liam and Silas in an instant.
Victor.
The moment Victor arrived, the temperature in the air changed. His mere presence suppressed everything, silencing the chaos as if time itself had bowed to him.
Liam exhaled sharply.
’Finally.’
Victor barely spared a glance at Liam or Shelly before his sharp gaze locked onto Silas.
"Well, well. Looks like you got ahead of yourself, demon."
Victor mused, his tone light, but there was a clear undercurrent of authority in his voice.
Silas snarled, his red eyes flashing with fury.
"You—!"
Before he could finish, Victor raised his hand, drawing a complex sigil midair. Golden light burst forth from his fingertips, wrapping around Silas like golden chains.
"No. You can’t—!"
Silas choked, struggling against the sudden restraint.
Victor smiled, but there was no warmth in it.
"I already have."
With a final snap of his fingers, the golden chains constricted, forcing Silas’s incomplete transformation to unravel.
A deep, guttural scream tore from the demon’s throat as his body was forcefully sealed. His skeletal form crumbled into nothing, leaving behind only a dark, pulsating orb where he once stood.
Silence filled the battlefield.
Liam let out a slow breath, his muscles finally relaxing.
’It’s over.’
Victor turned toward Liam, his expression unreadable.
"Well, that was a bit of a mess. Mind telling me how you got involved in this?"
He commented.
Liam met his gaze, his mind racing. He had too many questions, but right now, only one thing mattered.
"Victor. These demons... they’re the same ones from before. The ones that caused the fall of magic"
Liam said seriously, his eyes narrowing.
Victor’s expression didn’t change, but something flickered in his eyes.
"I know."
He admitted quietly.
Liam clenched his fists.
"Then that means—"
"Yes. This was just the beginning"
Victor exhaled slowly.
Shelly, still catching her breath, looked between them in confusion.
"What the hell are you two talking about?"
Victor gave her a small, knowing smile.
"Welcome to the real battlefield, Miss Bell."
Shelly Bell tightened her grip around her staff, her frustration evident in the way she glared at both Liam and Victor.
The tension in the air had barely settled from Silas’s defeat, and yet here she was, already moving on to her next fight.
She pointed her staff directly at Liam, her violet eyes burning with determination.
"I don’t care about your demons, your secret battles, or whatever ancient nonsense you two are rambling about. I’m here to win this tournament, and for that, I challenge you, Liam"
She declared.
Liam blinked, barely processing her words.
"What?"
Shelly clicked her tongue impatiently.
"You heard me. I came here to prove myself, and you’re my biggest obstacle. If I beat you, no one can deny my strength."
Liam sighed, rubbing his temples.
"Shelly, we literally just fought a demon. We’re exhausted, half the dungeon is wrecked, and the tournament is the last thing we should be worrying about right now."
"Oh, shut it. "I don’t need your excuses. If you’re really as strong as everyone fears, then fight me."
She twirled her staff, magic sparking around her fingertips.
Liam groaned, shaking his head.
"No."
Shelly’s eye twitched.
"No?"
"No."
He turned his back on her, fully intending to walk away. But before he could take another step, a burst of wind magic shot toward him.
With lightning-fast reflexes, Liam twisted his body, dodging the attack.
"Tsk. I thought you said no."
Shelly clicked her tongue.
Liam narrowed his eyes.
"Are you seriously attacking me right now?"
She smirked.
"What are you going to do about it?"
Before Liam could respond, the ground trembled, and a sudden avalanche of bones rained down from above, forming a thick barrier between him and Shelly.
The bones cracked against the dungeon floor, sending dust into the air.
Shelly barely had time to react before a giant clawed foot stepped between her and Liam.
Asger.
The dragon had shifted back into his humanoid form, but even then, he was towering, his golden eyes glowing with something close to amusement. He crossed his arms and smirked down at Shelly.
"Now, now. You should know better than to pick a fight you can’t win."
He rumbled.
