Last Divinity: The Advent Of Dreams-Chapter 49: Merlin
Everybody looked over and saw what appeared on the screen. Khali rushed over and his face turned grim.
" Is that the king?" He asked, the old man was certain at rank 4 and based on how he was dressed he was a mage, a great mage realm expert.
He figured it must be the king, human Great mages and mystic Knight/ beserkers had a lifespan of 5000 years.
For him to have white hair and wrinkles, he either must’ve chosen to look like, super duper stressed or is over 3000 years old.
Who else but the king could fit those standards. " It’s not the king." Viona answered then closed her mouth.
" Explain." Khali stood right Infront of her face, she looked away refusing to look him in the eye.
" How would you know that?" He asked and she startled whistling. Viona was a terrible liar.
" I..I was just guessing, yeah just guessing, I mean look at him, does he look like a king, he looks more like the leader of the Strix Tower of magic. Oops."
She closed her mouth in panic, " Stupid stupid Viona, you let it slip out again now they’ll know your secret."
She whispered but everybody could clearly hear her. Khali could tell she did want to talk about it.
She was just too dumb and kind of innocent to lie. She had so many telltales even a child could see when she’s lying instantly.
" Anyways, how do we deal with this?" Lucy asked sounding a little bored, she wanted to continue watching the world from above using satellites then this old man came.
" I say we just use all the nuclear bombs we have to blow him to kingdom come." She suggested and everybody turned and looked at her.
She was usually very peaceful, hearing her suggest they blow somebody up with nuclear missiles was strange.
Khali clapped his hands and drew everybody’s attention. " We bluff, that old man is obviously a scholar type mage.
A satellite is bound to interest him and he is bound to come here. Tell me Lucy, if you found something new and interesting.
One that you do not understand and a group of much weaker than owned it, then they offer to teach you about it.
Would you kill them to take possession of it or learn from them?" He asked while looking directly into her eyes.
She looked at him like he just asked the most stupid question. " Learn from them of course.
If they can build something I don’t know then they might be able to create even more things.
Killing them would be a waste and stupid." Khali nodded then he turned towards Viona.
" What about you? How would you deal with that situation?" Viona seemed to be thinking which was a strange thing.
" If that thing can increase my fighting power I would trade for it and if they refuse, offer a bigger price until they agreed."
Khali shook his head, he has forgotten that while she was a violent maniac she wasn’t a conqueror.
She only loved to fight and wouldn’t really have much interest in those weaker than her. He turned back to the screen.
" I bet this man is makes like Lucy, besides if that doesn’t work we have something else to offer?"
" What is that?" Samantha asked and Khali smiled softly.
" The chance to leave this dying world." Everybody looked like they had an epiphany.
----------------------------------------------------------
In outer orbit, the old man looked at the object for a while longer. He used a spell to determine what it was.
In all of his experiments they all told him this was a mortal artefact, it didn’t have even an ounce of mana.
He wondered how it got here, fortunately he knew a little about occult magic. He took out a bottle of salt.
----------------------------------------------------------
Back in what they decided to call Khaladrel City.
" Oh no, oh no this is bad, this is really really bad." They looked at Samantha wondering what she was on about.
" He’s using occult magic, I recognise that spell, it’s a tracking spell." Khali frowned, he too knew occult magic.
He created it but he didn’t like it, the truth was that one did not need any affinity to use occult magic. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Any magic can learn it, it was just too troublesome because it needed one to learn to chant spells in a completely different language.
The language of the damned, the literal language of the dead created by his sister, it was a hard language to learn for the living.
On top of that, most occult spells needed one to prepare certain and sometimes very hard to procure ingredients.
Of course a simple tracking spell was not that demanding but it did need something connected to the target.
Which the old man had, an entire satellite. Khali knew cloaking spells but they would be useless.
The old man had a very strong soul, he would be able to see through the cloak quite easily.
They watched the old man draw a circle of salt around the satellite. Even though he was in space.
The salt fell like it landed on solid ground. He took out the corpse of a massive monster, that thing was an absolute behemoth.
Khali recognised it as one of the void spawns, monsters that roamed the dark space.
The most powerful of them ate planet fir breakfast but the one the old man had was just a pub.
He started chanting in the language of the damned. Then he turned his head and looked directly at them.
Khaki new he had found them.
----------------------------------------------------------
Merlin saw a line connecting the strange artefact with a place back on the surface. He saw a glint.
He didn’t see it before but now that he was looking closely he saw something Infront of a mountain.
He flew down, his body broke through the atmosphere and he arrived above the mountain in a blink of an eye.
" Stop." He heard a loud voice and stopped. He floated a few kilometres above the ground.
He saw clearly what it was, glass, a massive structure made entirely out of glass. His mouth opened wide, he couldn’t help, this was just too shocking.
He heard the voice again, it sounded calm and confident. " Stay your hand or we would be forced to fire."
