Last Divinity: The Advent Of Dreams-Chapter 29: Dead Path and Engine
After his conversation with Nypharon he realised there was more at play here than he initially thought.
He did believe this was the plan of one of his siblings. Probably Nyanga, she was a master of divination and schemes.
What he didn’t understand was her purpose, he knew she wouldn’t do anything to hurt him.
As the youngest, all of his siblings dotted on him, especially his sisters. Nyanga once fight their brother after he locked him up in the timeless prison
She even confronted their father when he trapped him in a time loop. He couldn’t help but laugh when he remembered those times.
’ I wonder if you’re watching mother.’ he looked up but of course received no answer, their parents rarely talked to them when he was a god.
And by rarely he meant like once in 40 billion years. He doubted they would even entertain a mortal version of him.
He sighed and led his people out of the forest. His deal with Nypharon was going to benefit both parties.
He and his people would be allowed to harvest resources from the forest unharmed, infact the Dryads themselves would help.
They would also grow for him specific plants he gave them and in exchange, when he leaves this world.
He would take them along, they planned to search for remnants of their kind across this universe.
He agreed of course even though he wondered why they believed he would even be able to leave this world.
To fly into outer space he would need to reach a really high realm and he wasn’t sure he had enough time to reach that high.
His only other option is through science, he could create a space ship but that again would not be as easy as one might think.
A few days passed, Freya learnt the spell and tamed the spider. He and Lucy created paper.
He taught her about the laws of the universe, gravity, electromagnetism etc. She absorbed all that information like a sponge.
He gave the Dryads the task of growing cotton for him after giving them seeds. They had the power to speed up the growth of plants.
So in less than a month he already had cotton. During that month he taught his people a lot of things including knitting.
After the cotton was ready they started knitting clothes. They were not bad at it but he wouldn’t say they were good either.
However he knew they would improve and one day might make really nice clothes. He took Lucy to the bat cave.
A month ago he fed the bats the carcasses of the rank 1 spiders. In doing so he created rank 1 bats.
Of course he had to make sure they were under his control first so they wouldn’t turn and attack his people.
The point for all of this was to increase the purity of their droppings by strengthening it with mana.
That way they could create better potassium nitrate. " Wouldn’t it just be better to use mana instead of gun powder?"
Lucy asked him one day, he smiled at her. " I knew you would ask that." He led her to Sam’s workshop.
" Which is why I prepared this." He gave her a gun. It was glowing with red light. " I used a fire mana stone as ammunition, try it."
She pointed the gun at a target practice dummy and pressed the trigger but nothing happened.
" It’s not working, is this thing broken?" He laughed. " No it’s working just fine, the issue is with the power source."
She looked confused, he explained. " Mana is a dormant energy. It can’t be controlled by machines. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
In the same way you can’t throw a rock to cast a spell. To control mana you need to use your soul, your mental strength.
Just like when you’re casting a spell, using a technique or anything you do with mana, the same principle applies here."
She contemplated for a while, he didn’t say anything after and just looked at her waiting for her to come to the realisation by herself.
" Wait, then wouldn’t the power of this weapon be dependent on my own power?" He nodded with his terrifying smile, while used to it by now, it obviously still made her uncomfortable, he didn’t care.
He was proud of her for realising it so fast by herself. " You’re right, the path you suggested is called manatech path.
It has less limits than the old path of magic and martial arts, of mages and warriors but still limited as well.
If the power of your weapon is still limited by your own power then there’s no point in creating it, manatech is a path to a dead end.
However there’s a way to use mana, instead of having it as the main source of power, it’s better to have it as support.
Like in this case." He knelt down to pick up potassium nitrate on the ground. The reaction happened really quickly here due to mana.
So there was more potassium nitrate than even the first time they got here. " This potassium nitrate has the exact same properties as before.
It’s still the same salt, except the potassium that reacted with the nitrate in the rocks has been infused with mana.
Because of that, while the compound had not changed it had certainly grown much stronger.
You get what I’m saying, same compound but with better effects, that’s the effect of mana if it act as passive support.
It still provides it advantages without the limitations." After he was done she looked at him with excitement.
" Does this rule apply in everything?* She asked him. He nodded, " Yeah why do you ask?"
She turned around and ran off, they went up to the top caves. Sam’s workshop had been moved to the first layer of the subterranean world.
Just close to the entrance to the second layer, the metal layer. That way the miners wouldn’t have to carry ore all the way to the top caves.
She ran to her cave, in the past month they had also dug up personal caves for everybody.
She went into her room and came back with a stack of papers. He looked through them and the more he saw the more surprised he got.
He knew she was a genius but this was something else, after all, what he was looking at was an engine.
