Laid-Back Life in Tokyo: I Really Didn't Want to Work Hard-Chapter 766 - 459: Hanabi Neko
Using the campfire, Uesugi Sakura heated up some water for washing her face and bent down to return to the tent.
The tent was slightly illuminated, and the girl in front was wrapped in a sleeping bag, sleeping soundly.
Hanamaru Hanabi was still asleep, always looking like this when she slept—curled up, with her small hands tucked in front of her chest, breathing evenly and carrying the fragrance of a youthful girl.
Every time Uesugi Sakura saw her small, pitiful figure, she wanted to stay by her side, to tell her that her love was real, her promises were genuine.
Always, always watching her smile face this way.
"Wife, wife, wife," Uesugi Sakura gently shook the girl’s shoulder, "it’s time to get up."
"Sakura... Sakura-kun..." Hanamaru muttered softly, each word from her throat seemed to carry a unique girlish timbre, mixed with the sweet scent emanating from her.
Her sleepy eyes gradually adjusted to the light, her body still wrapped in the sleeping bag, as she opened her deep violet eyes to look at the person in front of her.
"Sakura-kun... Hanabi had a nightmare again..."
"A nightmare? What was in the nightmare?"
"Hanabi dreamt she was in a dark place, so cold, with heavy snow falling. Hanabi kept walking forward, kept walking. At first, there were so many people around, but one by one they were gone. Hanabi was left alone, not knowing where to go, but still she kept walking forward, forward, her feet growing numb. Finally, Hanabi collapsed in the snow.
"Hanabi tasted the cold snow in her mouth, her eyes grew harder to open, her head more dizzy. Hanabi didn’t know what to think of, she just vaguely felt like calling out a name, but couldn’t remember what it was, how to call it. Gradually, gradually, the darkness swallowed everything, the view panned away from Hanabi laying in the snow and vanished into the blizzard-filled night."
"Did you dream it was cold?" Uesugi Sakura reached out and touched her forehead, "It’s okay, no fever."
"Sakura-kun... Hanabi thought, the person I was calling out must have been Sakura-kun, but... no matter what, I couldn’t call out your name. Even though that feeling was right at my throat, I wanted to open my mouth yet it felt like I was mute, unable to call out any meaning, Sakura-kun... I was so scared then..."
"It’s okay," Uesugi Sakura withdrew her hand and smiled at her, "I’m right here. Want me to hold you for a while?"
"Mm..."
Hanamaru Hanabi’s voice was small and pitiful.
Uesugi Sakura zipped up the tent, turned to sit on his sleeping bag from last night, and held the girl who had emerged from her sleeping bag, letting her petite and frail body lean into his embrace, her head and ears resting on his chest.
"Want to hear a story?"
Hanamaru Hanabi gently shook her head.
"Alright, then just a hug."
She didn’t need a story, so Uesugi Sakura quietly held her.
Perhaps she was upset by the nightmare, perhaps she suddenly wanted to act spoiled in the morning, or maybe she just wanted a hug from him in the early light...
No matter what, Uesugi Sakura was willing to keep her company for a while.
She’s always done so much for me, and now that she needs me, as childhood friends or as a married couple, it’s the right thing to do. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Light filtered through the tent, shadows of the grass outside gently swaying at the corners.
Uesugi Sakura suddenly felt the girl’s little hand grip him softly.
He lowered his head.
"Feeling better?"
"Mm... mm... thank you, Sakura-kun."
"Glad you’re feeling better. How about we go wash our faces? The water might be cold now, let’s heat it up again."
"Okay."
The girl’s reply was very gentle and obedient.
"Put on your clothes first, you’re only in a little camisole now. Getting careless since we got married?"
Hanamaru Hanabi wrapped her arms around her shoulders, shrinking her body, lowering her little head, saying, "Because... we’re married... it’s okay to let Sakura-kun see..."
"Couldn’t I see before?"
"No way..." the girl answered softly, recalling something, blushing as she said, "Besides... Sakura-kun used to peek a lot, right? He saw everything of Hanabi’s chest long ago..."
"That," Uesugi Sakura raised his gaze as if reminiscing specific scenes, and as he recalled, he started to laugh, "Back then, Hanabi-chan hadn’t fully developed yet, it was just a small hill."
"Sakura-kun, you’re saying...!"
Hanamaru Hanabi clutched her shoulder with one hand, gently made a fist with the other, and tapped it on his chest.
Uesugi Sakura acted as if injured, clutching his chest, "Ah~~ it hurts~ it hurts~ so painful."
Hanamaru Hanabi couldn’t help but smile at his ’injured’ state:
"Sakura-kun, you’re so perfunctory, can’t you be more realistic?"
"Realistic?"
Uesugi Sakura, who had ’fallen’, paused for a second, then rolled his eyes, spread his hands open, and flopped powerlessly onto the ground.
Hanamaru Hanabi couldn’t help but laugh again, even covering her cheeks with both hands:
"Sakura-kun, you’re still so dramatic."
"Alright," Uesugi Sakura sat up quickly, smiling at the camisole-clad girl kneeling beside him, "I admit, I can’t act. But it really hurt when you hit me just now."
