Kung Fu Baby with 17 Doting Brothers-Chapter 506: Running Rampant
In June, Jiang City’s weather was already quite hot.
Fortunately, the trees in Jiangshui were lush, making walking under their shade incredibly pleasant.
The flowers and grass in the Gu Mansion’s courtyard were sprinkled with water droplets, as if the owner just watered them, but both the house and the yard were very quiet.
Outside the courtyard, two men walked towards each other, each holding several paper bags from a bakery.
When they were a bit apart, neither recognized the other. As they got closer, they finally saw each other’s faces clearly.
They simultaneously hid the paper bags behind their backs.
The handsome and elegant young professor calmly said, "Little Che, you’re back."
His expression was indifferent, but his hand kept reaching back, fearing someone would notice he’d bought a lot of sweets to share with his sister.
Ever since it was discovered his sister had a slight cavity, he became one of the people everyone watched out for the most.
The sweet-toothed professor could empathize with his equally sweet-toothed sister, and both had little self-control in this regard.
Gu Che maintained a cold expression, speaking somewhat indifferently, "Hmm, I just came back for a magazine shoot. Is your school on break?"
The tone was aloof, as if they weren’t cousins and he was quite unwilling to see the other. In truth, his hand was also nervously sticking back, afraid someone would spot the logo on the bag.
On a past program, he encouraged his sister to eat instant noodles with him, which was fine until they were filmed by a cameraman, leading to viral fame. Knowing his big brother’s nature, he made an excuse of having work to slip away, leaving his sister to face the storm alone, and hadn’t dared to come home since.
This time, due to a magazine shoot, he got a break from the film crew. Thinking it over, he realized he should apologize quickly, so he rushed home with sweets. On the way back, he even texted his big brother to confirm multiple times he wasn’t home.
After exchanging greetings, they continued walking towards each other, syncing perfectly at the courtyard gate.
Gu Che faced Gu Mo directly, pulling out an access card to open the gate.
Gu Mo also faced his cousin directly, refusing to turn around.
When the gate opened, they intended to mimic crabs, walking sideways to ensure the bags behind them stayed hidden.
Just then, a warm voice blew in with the hot breeze.
"Hey, is this a real-life ’sidewalk king’?"
Both of them: "..."
Gu Che couldn’t move his body, so he turned his head, stubbornly maintaining the original posture.
Gu Mo, however, could see who it was and reminded his cousin.
"Young men, two of them, unfamiliar to me."
Concise and direct, but completely unhelpful.
That moment lasted long enough for Gu Li and Wen Li to approach.
The irritable young man glanced at Gu Che, saying flatly, "I saw it all, hiding is useless."
Gu Che recognized it was his cousin and glared at him. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed the courteous Wen Li, feeling this person’s demeanor seemed familiar.
"Who are you?"
The gentle-faced young man smiled faintly.
"Wen Li, I should call your mom ’Auntie.’"
Got it, it’s Auntie’s child.
It was strange, their family had always been estranged from relatives on their grandfather’s side, yet lately cousin after cousin had emerged.
Gu Che suddenly felt a sense of crisis; due to etiquette, he couldn’t drive them away and introduced Gu Mo.
Gu Mo nodded a greeting, walked sideways into the courtyard, and seized the moment when no one was looking to move the bags to the front, racing into the house.
"I saw it all."
Gu Li complained again, "I know those brands; Miaomiao often eats them... huh? You brought them for Miaomiao? But didn’t our cousin say Miaomiao has cavities and can’t..."
He was slow to realize.
This irritable young man was a bit taller, slightly bowing his head to look at what Gu Che was hiding.
"You bought some too. What if you get caught?"
"If none of us say anything, then nobody else will know."
Wen Li proposed an idea, then tilted his head, smilingly looking at Gu Che, "Don’t worry, I’m not close with your brother, I won’t tattle."
Gu Che, suddenly not reassured, "..." He remembered that demeanor, that tone of voice, wasn’t it just like Gu Chi, who often tricked him?
How are there so many fair-skinned, seemingly nice people with bad intentions these days?
Feeling a bit depressed, Gu Che led them inside.
Just reaching the doorway, he heard his sister’s joyful laughter, uplifting his mood again.
"Miaomiao," he shouted, "I’m back!"
Tuanzi, who was holding a pudding and eating it in small spoonfuls, paused.
"Did Miaomiao hear things?"
Her little ear twitched.
Gu Mo, having not mentioned Gu Che, felt a bit guilty.
He kept his head down, eating a small cake, silent.
Tuanzi couldn’t resist sniffing, exclaiming, "The scent of seaweed shortbread."
Gu Mo hadn’t bought seaweed shortbread.
She quickly turned, first spotting Gu Che... or rather his paper bag, delighted, "Second Brother, you bought seaweed shortbread?"
Sniffing again, she added, "And mango pancake!" 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Gu Che’s expression was akin to having swallowed several lemons.
Shouldn’t his sister have been more excited to say ’Second Brother, you’re back’?
Apparently, seaweed shortbread and mango pancake were more charming than him, hmph!
Still remembering he was back to apologize, he walked over with the bag, cautiously placing it on the table, starting to stammer, "Um, Miaomiao, earlier, that...."
The little girl was already brimming with joy.
Her face lit with happiness as she opened the bag, completely ignoring what Gu Che was saying.
"Ahem!"
A deliberate cough echoed from the doorway.
Ji Zhangzhuo emerged from the study, taking a glance, "Hey, Gu Li, you’re here too? And who’s this unfamiliar face next to you?"
He rubbed his chin, jokingly said, "Don’t tell me this one is also Miaomiao’s cousin?"
Gu Li’s face darkened from being pestered by Wen Li since last week.
"He really is Miaomiao’s cousin."
Last week, Wen Li waited for him outside the school to accompany him to Jiang City, claiming he wanted to treat him and Gu Zhuo to a meal, only to inquire about his cousin during the meal. He thought this cousin would visit Tuanzi, but after the meal, the person disappeared, only to call daily to ask about stuff, and this week, he came to the school to block him again.
He couldn’t understand Wen Li’s intentions, and it wasn’t easy to get angry at that smiling face.
Ji Zhangzhuo was speechless.
Little junior, oh little junior, do you need this many brothers?
On second thought, it wasn’t something the little junior could decide, it was up to the elders.
Engrossed in her feast, Tuanzi wasn’t aware she gained another cousin.
She joyfully finished a piece of mango pancake, then lifted her cream-smeared face to see Gu Li, waving happily, before noticing the unfamiliar young man and tilting her head in confusion.
"This brother, Miaomiao feels like she’s seen him before."
Wen Li settled calmly on the sofa, reminded her after hearing that, "A few days ago you met with Director Ming, I was in the car waiting for him. The car window was open then."
Tuanzi suddenly understood.
"Right, right, I peeked inside the car back then and thought you were the director uncle’s assistant."
After a pause, she curiously asked, "Aren’t you the director uncle’s assistant? Then how come you’re at my house?"
Ji Zhangzhuo quietly grabbed a mochi, stuffing it into his mouth before Tuanzi noticed, swallowing most before speaking, "You’ve been calling him brother, what do you think?"
