Kirigakure Gamer : Rise of the mist-Chapter 42: Operation Hydra (5)
Chapter 42 - Operation Hydra (5)
[Island Of Steel, North Coast]
Darui had been recently promoted to jonin. As one of the few survivors of the skirmishes against Kirigakure ANBU on the eastern coast of the land of lightning, he had earned tremendous recognition. His perfect record on missions, including high-staked ones, had earned him favour from the Third Raikage.
However...
Following the lead of Yugito Nii, they had received a mission to ambush a group of talented chunins. In a flash, they had lost half of their squads in a highly-lethal B-rank jutsu. It was not like they were unprepared, but they had not been noticed from their sensors, and the ninjutsu was incredibly lethal. Even as a jonin, Darui did not know any jutsu that had such strong effect over such a big area.
The density of the falling rain needles was so high that it surpassed the lethality of kunai. Too many died in a flash, too many were injured.
Then, he saw Yugito engage infighting with the ninjutsu specialist, leaving him to fare with a woman.
Darui was angry at himself. For some reason, he was relieved to have met a mere chunin, and not the one who had casted such a strong jutsu. After all, even if lightning had a natural advantage over water, there was a dreadful aura around the kid who had jonin-level ninjutsu.
But...
Once again, he was shocked
Despite having superior lightning ninjutsu, he could not seem to break through the defence of his enemy. She avoided his strikes as if he telegraphed them
'This was supposed to be an easy ambush mission', Darui muttered, 'Damn it...Even though I was supposed to hide it, I have to help Yugito fast'
Black Lightning: Tiger Bite [A]
Black lightning. Mightier than regular raiton, a skill lost for generations, before reappearing in Kumogakure. This kekkei gekkai was the reason why Darui had been promoted Jonin, even though he was only 15 at the moment.
He had met several Kirigakure geniuses, including Zabuza and Kisame, but the woman he was fighting was the first to require him to unleash his kekkei gekkai.
"I will need three minutes to finish him off", Naya shouted
'How can she say this when facing such a strong jutsu?', Darui was shocked
However, Naya did not charge into the tiger of black lightning, and instead took the hit. Her body collapsed into a puddle of water.
"Water clone?", Darui shouted in horror
Suddenly, a sharp feeling of fear forced him to duck forward. With shock, Darui nearly avoided death from a mighty thrust
Hidden Mist Kenjutsu: 8th Form - Tide Thrust [C]
Before he could get up, the sword crashed down once again, barely parried off by a pair of kunai. A genin was charging towards the demoness.
"NO!", Darui shouted
But to no avail, the genin was beheaded in a flash.
She had cut through his defences in one single strike. Turning towards him, Darui felt a chill going through his spine, but as a shinobi, he kept his calm and used another jutsu
Unfortunately, Naya had already entered close combat. She might not be able to fight against him in a one to one combat. However, this was a battle on the battefield, and he had not kept his distances accordingly. In other words, he had underestimated her deeply. And he would pay for it.
The world of shinobi was not forgiving. Countless geniuses died before blooming. Battlefields were that way. The strongest did not always win, or survive for that matter. Sometimes, the element of surprise, the desire to live - or to protect, was stronger.
"This chakra length...", Darui muttered, "How can it be? You were supposed to be a mere genin"
Some shinobi were below average their whole life, and sometimes, battle experience allowed them to get stronger spontaneously on the battlefield. For those with a bloodline, this would often appear with the awakening of bloodline release, also known as Kekkei Gekkai.
Darui himself had awakened black lightning in a mission like that.
But Naya Tori held nothing to her name. She was a civilian shinobi.
If she had not met Takeshi, her potential would have maybe reached jonin level at best.
Yet...
The purple aura around her sword proved otherwise. She had gotten an epiphany on swordsmanship, something that usually only appeared in geniuses. It was disclosed information, something that was extremely rare.
Before Darui could understand what was happening, he felt his chest tightened...
