With that decision, the men proceeded to prepare for the mission. Kylo went to prepare the manpower and some weapons, Hugo prepared the helicopter and the plasma guns, while the others took care of the resources they needed to take.

As the others head out, Khalifa looked at Jojo who was also about to leave. "Where’s Sid?"

The kid flinched as he turned to her, smiling awkwardly as he looked around. Cauis, who happened to just be heading out, paused, and walked in front of her.

He raised his hand and patted her head. "It’s not up to you to comfort him."

She looked at him and blinked adorably. "Well, he must feel guilty, like you did."

Cauis pursed his lips in thought. He sighed in the end, turning his head to look at Jojo. "Call him here, let Khalifa talk with him."

"A-Ah, yes!" the lad said, and he ran to find Sid who was wallowing in despair somewhere.

It took a while for Jojo to find him, and it took even more convincing to get him to go. He did, eventually, when he heard Khalifa was waiting for him.

It was a long and nerve-wrecking walk for Sid, and he stood outside the door for a bit longer than proper. Eventually, he forced himself to open the door, and she was the first person he saw.

He found her sitting leisurely on the sofa, legs folded under her, and gracefully sipping tea.

So beautiful, as always, and he couldn’t bear even getting close to the image.

At his entrance, she lifted her head and his heart clenched when her eyes met his. "You’re here?" She said, that alluring voice of hers pulling him into another reverie.

"Sid," she called again, similarly pulling him out. He shook his head and moved a bit towards her, but he stepped a good meter away.

"I’m sorry, Khalifa," he said.

"You know I don’t blame you for that."

"Don’t tell me it’s not my fault," Sid said, shaking his head, "I spoiled her. Had I raised her properly—"

"So… how are you going to go about it?" She asked, putting down her tea cup and letting her cute chin rest on her knuckles. "Are you going to avoid me forever?"

"No, of course not—"

He gulped when he saw her stand in front of him and held his cheek. As a star, he always had smooth skin. Naturally, they were much rougher now, but it was still better than most women.

"Sid… we have brains and we know who to balem. I just want you to know we will always be your team."

His eyes widened and he felt a little teary. He tilted his head a bit and his lips touched her palm on his cheek.

"Thank you," he said, eyes shifting to meet her deep ones again. He gulped, hesitated, but uttered his wish in the end. "Can I hug you?"

She blinked before she giggled, and for a moment Sid felt embarrassed for asking. But then she opened her arms and his heart clenched.

He wrapped his arms around her back, pulling her to him. He buried his face on his shoulder—relishing in her scent, in her softness..

He couldn’t bear to make advances until he found out what really happened that day, but this was already so much more than he could ask for.

And for that, he was thankful.

Hugo arrived some minutes later and opened the door without knocking. When he encountered Cauis, he found out Khalifa was talking with another man—alone—so he rushed back at the speed of light.

Hugo had left his duties to Joel and Yoyo, so now he had some free time to stop another man from entering the harem.

He opened the door to just see them sitting side by side on the sofa, apparently chatting.

The two indeed were chatting, primarily about what happened during the separation. For instance, he told her of how they tried looking for her, but mobs of monsters made it impossible for them to follow the entire river.

They went to Hugo’s base to get more resources, more weapons, and Hugo even developed the plasma gun again. It was really amazing and with it they managed to clear out mobs so fast and without hassle.

Fully equipped, they went back to the surrounding areas downstream of the river. For a long time, they looked for any signs of her. When they managed to connect to the satellites and saw that she was safe, they immediately prepared for fetching her with grandness.

Anyway, Hugo, relieved to see no inappropriateness had occurred, heaved a deep breath and stretched his arms, positioning himself right between the two.

His arms extended to behind Khalifa and pulled her to him, leaning down to kiss her cheek. Khalifa blinked as he leaned down again, but this time kissing her lips.

The atmosphere heated up a bit and Sid immediately felt out of place.

he sighed, knowing he wasn’t welcome and stood up. "I’ll try to learn more of what will happen. I will tell you guys everything."

"Thank you," Khalifa said, and he smiled as he left the door. However, he didn’t close the door and even turned back, stepping aside. The two were puzzled for a moment until newcomers entered the threshold.

"You have more visitors," Sid said, followed by the familiar figures of Hilten and Mira.

Hilten was as is except that he was a bit thinner and wan, while Mira looked horrendous with her bandage covered body and face, partnered with an overall somber temperament.

She was also shaking very much, whether it was in itch, pain, or anger.

Khalifa reckoned it was a good dose of all three.

Similarly, the two newcomers looked at the couple on the sofa with various emotions.

Khalifa was as gorgeous as always, graceful and sexy, and Hugo was extremely charming in his own right.

Since knowing Khalifa loved his tattoo, Hugo basically always wore a polo shirt with open buttons.

Khalifa could see Mira’s eyes often end up on Hugo and his chest. She frowned, not liking how other women looked at her men.

Hugo was even more annoyed by the interruption though. He lifted his head, looking at them arrogantly. "What do you need?"

"We need to ask for a favor," Hilten said, gently pushing Mira to go to them. Khalifa watched the interaction in interest.

This pair really caught her by surprise. This wasn’t in the books. Was this new?

If so, why would Mira choose this guy?

Then her eyes narrowed, focusing on the middle-aged man who, other than his relatively high position, seemed unremarkable.

Was there more to Hilten than meets the eye?
