Keyboard Immortal-Chapter 2814: A New Skill
“Paying respects to the exalted Deity of Memory!” Zu An was starting to get used to this.
The surrounding numbers flickered as if assessing Zu An. “Why didn’t you say that you liked Mi Li more earlier?”
Cold sweat rained down Zu An’s back. She was listening in. He quickly replied, “I am the envoy of not just the exalted Deity of Chaos and Enigma, but the Deity of Memory as well.”
“I see. Then why don’t you like me more?”
Zu An sweated profusely. These two universal deities are... He quickly reined himself in and replied, “It’s the utmost honor of a humble ant like me to receive the grace of a universal deity. I’d be stepping out of line to dare evaluate supreme beings of your stature.”
“Mi Li is right. You’re a cunning one.” The numbers flickered. “You are the envoy of two universal deities and the wielder of half of Death’s authority. You aren’t an ant anymore.”
Zu An carefully replied, “Exalted universal deity, please be assured that I have no intention of resurrecting Death. That is why I opted to divide its authority.”
You must be kidding me! Even the Deity of Death was killed by the universal deities. I'm nothing in comparison!
“You don’t need to be nervous. If not for our tacit approval, you couldn’t have retained half of Death’s authority,” the Deity of Memory replied.
Zu An breathed a sigh of relief. “Allow me to express my utmost gratitude to you for saving me from the Deity of Annihilation.”
“I protect my worshipers. You have done well, recording so many important events. I am very satisfied.” The Deity of Memory was in a good mood.
Zu An took the chance to ask, “May I ask how I should deal with Death’s authority? I don’t feel any different from before.”
“Possessing half of a universal deity’s authority elevates your stature. Just as there are countless civilizations in the Myriad Worlds, there are countless power level systems as well. Those power level systems mark a difference in quantity, such as the difference between 100 and 1. There is no fundamental change in its meaning. A change in stature, however, can give rise to a fundamental change from 0 to 1.
“It is extremely difficult for those of a lower stature to hurt those of a higher stature, and you now possess the highest stature in the Myriad Worlds. You might have only inherited half of Death’s authority, but you’ll still benefit greatly from it,” the Deity of Memory patiently explained.
“Thank you for your guidance, exalted universal deity!”
Zu An had gained some insight into power and laws when he obtained the Cultivation World’s World Law Beacon and became its god. Cultivators were divided into tiers, ranging from first rank to earth immortal. But to a higher being, there was no fundamental difference among those cultivation levels.
The concept of stature was likely related to one’s ability to control, alter, and even create laws. No matter how powerful a cultivator was, they were still reliant on the energies around them and had to obey the laws of physics in each world. A higher entity could render a powerful cultivator helpless just by altering a law.
The stream of numbers suddenly flickered, and a book fell from the sky and floated into Zu An’s hands. The Deity of Memory said, “That trial world was created by the Deity of Death before his demise. He left a secret manual for his successor. It should have been impossible for anyone to clear the trial, and I also withheld the manual.
“However, I have browsed the manual; it has nothing to do with Death’s path. He must have had a plan in mind, but now that he has completely fallen, it’s no longer worth dwelling on that. I’ll give you the manual.”
But Zu An didn’t dare take it. “I dare not casually browse through something left by the Deity of Death.”
The numbers in the surroundings flickered. “There’s nothing for you to fear. The Deity of Annihilation was the one who wanted to bring down the Deity of Death. The rest of us had only just attained our deityhood and still harbored fear toward Death, so we tacitly permitted and even aided Annihilation. We are not the same entities we were back then. Death can no longer faze us. Of course, I wouldn’t have handed this manual to you if you weren’t my worshiper.”
Zu An quickly understood what was going on.
The other universal deities no longer feared Death, but they still wouldn’t permit the rise of another Deity of Death. Had it been anyone else, they would have never been permitted to clear the trial, or inherit the Deity of Death’s legacy.
Thanks to him being fortunate enough to become both Memory and Chaos and Enigma’s envoy, Zu An was the only exception. At the same time, the others who participated in the trial were highly regarded worshipers of the other paths. That was why the universal deities had let them off.
Zu An took the manual and saw three words written on its cover—Song of Righteousness. He was taken aback.
“Yes, it’s the one you’re thinking about. Following Southern Song’s collapse, Prime Minister Wen Tianxiang rejected the Yuan Mongols’ invitation and wrote the Song of Righteousness. Despite being a mortal, Wen Tianxiang’s Song of Righteousness resonated with the world. Even I have a high opinion of it. The current Song of Righteousness is elevated from its previous state, and it’s compatible with you.”
“Compatible with me?” Zu An was confused.
“I sense that you have an ability resembling Soulspeak, but using it incurs a hefty price, so you can’t use it under normal circumstances. The Song of Righteousness nurtures a righteous energy, which can be used to offset the cost of your ability. Now that you possess half of Death’s authority, you should be able to use it.”
Zu An was overjoyed to hear that. “Thank you for your bestowment, exalted Deity of Memory!”
This was indeed invaluable to him.
“Allright. Remember to record more important events like this...”
Hearing that the Deity of Memory was about to leave, Zu An hurriedly asked, “Exalted Deity of Memory, may I know how I can travel through spacetime to reunite with someone whom I have lost touch with?”
He'd visited Dreamland in search of a solution, but Dreamland turned out to be a sham. That left him at a loss. But thinking about it, there was no one better to pose this question to than the universal deities of the Myriad Worlds.
The stream of numbers froze. “Who do you want to meet?”
“An old friend.”
“A lover, I see.”
Zu An was speechless. I forgot she can read my thoughts.
“Why didn’t you ask Mi Li?”
Zu An dared not to speak ill of the Deity of Chaos and Enigma, so he replied, “You are the exalted Deity of Memory. You must possess all kinds of records about the Myriad World.”
“There’s no use bootlicking me. I do know the answer, but I am not obliged to answer your questions. It makes me wonder who is the universal deity here.”
Cold sweat rained down from Zu An. “Exalted Deity of Memory, please pardon my brashness.”
“I’ll tell you how you can find the person you want to meet when you find something better to offer to me.” With that, the stream of numbers vanished, and Zu An returned to the forbidden land’s earth vein.
