Keyboard Immortal-Chapter 2555: Showing Ones Hand
Chapter 2555: Showing One's Hand
Yumen Beiqing figured that she could kill Nuba at any time. The latter was a renowned figure, and it was an easy feat to find her. So, she decided to prioritize following Salamay and figuring out who the latter's master was.
Someone else is pulling the strings here. I might have overlooked something important. Perhaps I just have to find that important thing to change the ending.
That greatly lifted her spirits. She carefully followed Salamay, fearing that the latter would discover her.
Salamay was very vigilant. She took remote paths, and sometimes even took detours to confuse anyone following her. She also frequently surveyrf her surroundings to ensure that no one was following her.
But with her strength, there was no way she could find the Sun Goddess when the latter was intentionally hiding from her.
Soon, Salamay arrived at a cliff. She knocked on the cliff wall, and a ray of light shone down. She took out a jade piece and placed it into the ligh; the jade glowed and reflected the light onto the cliff.
All of a sudden, a cavern appeared on the cliff face.
With a sweet smile, she walked in and bowed to the person seated inside. “Master, I have completed the mission you entrusted to me.”
The black-robed man impassively said, “Tell me how it went.”
Salamay recounted the details surrounding her encounter with Nuba. The black-robed man nodded in satisfaction. “Good. You didn’t do anything unnecessary.”
Seeing that the black-robed man was in a good mood, Salamay took this chance to ask, “Master, why didn’t you tell her the name directly? Why are you divulging information to her in this roundabout manner instead?”
The black-robed man laughed. “Be it shaman or fiend, mortal or deity, they share the same peculiar frame of mind. They are wary of information offered for free, but they don’t doubt the information that they personally uncover. That’s why it’s better to let her investigate the matter. She’s the Yellow Emperor’s daughter, an Ancestral Shaman’s wife. Her means and connections are not to be underestimated. It won’t be difficult for her to uncover the truth.”
Salamay was awed. “Master is truly sagacious! I am humbled by your ingenuity.”
The Lord of Slaughter secretly gave his daughter a thumbs up. He had been in a lofty position for a long time and was used to being bootlicked more than having to be the one bootlicking. It was hard for him to suddenly change his ways. Good thing my daughter is formidable. If she wins master’s favor, we can gather more intelligence. Who knows? Master might even bestow us the method to activate our ancient bloodline power...
All of a sudden, his expression stiffened. Huh? Why am I calling him master even in my thoughts? Where has my sense of shame gone? Where has my dignity gone?!
While he was doubting himself, the black-robed man’s voice suddenly turned cold. “You trash. You brought the enemy here with you.”
The gleeful Salamay was stunned. “Master, I didn’t...” The pressure exuded by the black-robed man in a fit of rage shook her very soul.
The black-robed man ignored Salamay and instead looked up at the entrance. “Why not come in for a chat when you’re already here?”
Yumen Beiqing slowly entered the cavern while coldly eyeing the black-robed man.
“The Fiend races’ Saintess?” How could the Lord of Slaughter not recognize the one person who had impeded the Monster World’s invasion of the Cultivation World for so many years? He sneered, “Hmph! You concealed yourself so well that I was never able to find you. To think that you would appear before me on your own accord!”
He swiped his claw at Yumen Beiqing, hoping to take her down to quell his master’s anger lest the latter blame Salamay for this lapse.
The black-robed man spat, “Idiot!”
The Lord of Slaughter was confused. Why does master value a mere Fiend races’ Saintess from a weak world so much?
The truth was soon apparent. A brilliant light suddenly shone in front of him. For a moment there, he thought he was looking at the rising sun. Terrifying heat and flames gushed at him, charring his resilient skin black. For an instant, he thought he was going to die.
He hurriedly unleashed all his protective methods, knowing that this wasn’t the time for him to withhold any of his aces. As the ruler of the Monster World, he had many invaluable treasures with him. Brilliant lights pulsated from his body, helping him fend off the terrifying flames. However, judging from the swift rate at which his defensive artifacts were being depleted and destroyed, he knew that it wouldn’t take long before he was reduced to ashes.
Salamay was horrified, but she was nowhere strong enough to intervene in this battle. She could only turn to the black-robed man with pleading eyes. “Master...”
Looking at the Lord of Slaughter’s artifacts, the black-robed man thought to himself that his slave had some value after all, and that it would be a waste for him to die here. So, he waved his cloak, and it swiftly enlarged into a humongous black cloth that enveloped the brilliant sun, causing the cavern to turn dark once more.
Salamay finally got a look at the black-robed man’s true appearance and was shocked. Contrary to her expectations, the black-robed man wasn't an unkempt old man or a twisted mutant. Instead, he was tall and dashing. He’s not as good-looking as that Zu guy, but he’s not bad either.
A force dragged the Lord of Slaughter backward, pulling him to safety. He quickly bowed and said, “Thank... you, master...” He was also surprised to see that the black-robed man was a young man.
Yumen Beiqing glared at the black-robed man in a mix of shock and realization. “It’s you!”
The black-robed man smiled. “I didn’t expect you to find me here. I’d expect no less from the Sun Goddess.”
Yumen Beiqing’s expression turned cold. “That explains why everything progressed in the worst direction no matter what I tried. You were pulling the strings. It’s a good thing I found the root of the problem now. It’s not too late to resolve the situation now.”
“You’re awfully confident about defeating me, mother,” the black-robed man replied with a relaxed laugh.
Salamay was treating the Lord of Slaughter’s injuries when they heard those words and immediately looked over. They assessed the two others with slackened lower jaws that nearly fell to the ground.
They are mother and son? How did a Fiend races’ Saintess from a weak world suddenly become master’s mother? And she looks so young that I would have thought that she was younger than master. What’s going on?
“Shut up. You have no right to call me that.” Yumen Beiqing glared at the black-robed man with wrathful eyes.
Salamay and the Lord of Slaughter slowly grasped the situation. It doesn’t seem like they're truly mother and son... but why does master call her mother then?
The black-robed man’s expression turned livid. “You people still look down on me. Of course, you’re the lofty Sun Goddess. Someone with a bloodline as noble as yours is more than qualified to look down on others. Little do you know that your arrogance will become your downfall!”
“I shall capture and hand you over to your father. You can reason with him instead.” Yumen Beiqing attacked the black-robed man.
“Hahaha! You’re too arrogant. Very well. I shall show you my true strength!” The black-robed man’s clothes puffed up as he transformed into a void in response to Yumen Beiqing’s attack.
...
Meanwhile, Zu An was still searching for Yumen Beiqing.
Seeing how anxious he was, the Goddess of Wu Mountain hesitantly opened and closed her mouth several times before finally speaking up. “You don’t need to be too worried about her. She’ll be fine.”
“Goddess, what makes you say so?” Zu An looked at her with sharp eyes. “Do you know something that I’m unaware of?”
