Chapter 1507: Falling Dominoes

The pillar of energy bursting out of the ground in Rainbowden did not go unnoticed. In fact, a vast majority of the populace had decided to stop whatever they were doing to stop and stare at this sudden burst of energy.

The reactions to this sudden appearance were usually one of two: It was either pure delight due to the sheer novelty of this moment, causing them to be inspired, or it was pure rage due to this sudden interruption fucking up whatever flow state a particular artisan happened to be in before they were oh-so rudely interrupted by reality asserting itself into their private workspace.

The only people who weren’t affected by this sudden burst of energy, or at the very least didn’t care about the world exploding around them, were either deaf or asleep.

That, or they had great faith in their local authorities.

Speaking of which, the moment this pillar of energy, the lord of Rainbowden, alongside several of the big power players in the area, moved to the airspace above the city to determine what the origin of this disturbance was.

Once they got up there and began to seriously probe the pillar, though, the looks on their faces went from annoyed to concerned.

After all, this pillar was dense with [Law].

^What the hell? Did an Aether Saint enter the city without anyone noticing?!^

^Impossible! My family’s personal treasure would’ve alerted me if that were the case!^

^Are you saying that someone in the city had broken through then?^

^Equally unlikely.^

^Quit speculating you old goats and actually exercise your senses for once! ^ The city lord of Rainbowden shouted as he took charge of the motley group. ^This density doesn’t belong to an Aether Saint or above; it belongs to someone who had been bestowed with [Law]. A disciple.

^Oh.^

Once they clammed up and listened to the City Lord’s words, they could confirm for themselves that this pillar of energy wasn’t that of an Aether Saint showing off their powers.

It was actually the hubris of a disciple who made a grand mistake.

^If that’s the case, should we still go and investigate the cause?^ One of the local powerhouses asked the City Lord. ^The issue may resolve itself without our intervention.^

^Perhaps,^ the City Lord agreed with this assessment, "but we might as well see what the circumstances were behind this explosion of energy. Perhaps it might lead to unexpected opportunities.^

^Very well.^

With their course of action now determined, the powerhouses of Rainbowden made moves towards the source. Little did any of them know that they were about to be given front row seats to the start of a new End Time Ballad.

...Meanwhile, in an inn occupied by a certain knock-off angel...

"What the hell?"

Just as Alain was about to sit down and explain to Buzza how his friend was unable to read that strange girl’s mind, the appearance of a pillar of light robbed his attention.

To be more precise, the sudden appearance of this pillar caused every hair on Alain’s neck to rise as if a demon were breathing down his neck and was just about to rip directly into his jugular.

Surprisingly, even Buzza seemed to flinch at the presence of this pillar...despite being technically half way across the planet and behind a transmission technique.

[Thizzz feeling...why izzz Law appearing in Rainbowden? There shouldn’t be any zzzects or factionzzz that could support an Aether ZZZaint in that area.]

[I’m not sure,] Alain answered as he opened the window in his room and unfurled his transplanted wings. [But I get the distinct feeling that a certain interloper is definitely related to it.]

WIth a leap as gentle as a swan taking flight, Alain took to the air with a single beat of his wings. Despite the fact that these wings of his were stolen from a kaijin that has long since passed, they moved with an ease and grace as if he had had them for his whole life.

Alain had forgotten to close his connection to Buzza at this time, so the insectile rogue kaijin could quietly watch from his side of the mirror as Alain went airborne.

If he had a regular mouth, he would be smiling like a fool right now.

’Every day Alain proves my theories more and more true. Who would’ve thought that the key to proper transplantation would be an alignment of ideals between the past and the present... I’m getting closer, my Rose. Just a few more breakthroughs...’

...Wait, shouldn’t we be focusing on the blast zone?...

As Lythero and Jinju Ren stared up at the pillar of energy with disbelief on their faces, they were soon joined by Anton. At the same time, the zakos carrying Alicia and Bellona had carried the girls safely to the workshop while everything was exploding. Despite the negative effects of [Law] affecting them, the zakos were dutiful and loyal to a sacrificial fault.

Regardless, once Anton met up with Lythero and Jinju Ren, a slew of questions were exchanged between them all.

"Who the hell were these guys?"Jinju Ren asked

"Not sure, I was doing a snack run," Lythero admitted. "But they were trying to kidnap Alicia and Bellona, so I figured they deserved getting their asses kicked in."

"Good shit."

"Wait...Zhen Liu, why do you feel...different? Also, weren’t you pretending to be a woman a couple hours ago?"

"He was, but also, he is currently not in control of his body right now," Anton answered while using Zhen Liu’s body. "My name’s Anton; I was one of the previous Kaijin Lords, and I’m currently piloting the current one like a meatsuit."

"Wait, what?"

"It’s a long story that might actually be related to everything going on around here," Jinju Ren commented as she looked over the sheer amount of destruction and, again, the giant pillar of [Law]. "Why do I get the feeling I’m staring at a pile of angry birds?"

"I can hazard some guesses," Anton noted, "but we should probably make our way to somewhere safer, or at the very least more defensible, yeah?"

"Agreed."

And with that short exchange done, the trio immediately made moves to retreat...and prepare for the oncoming storm. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

...Not what I meant!...

Rewinding the clock a bit...

"Why are we running away?!" Antonio asked while carrying Alice and Olstenna, who were still gobsmacked by the pillar of [Law] before their eyes, over his shoulders.

"Because the giant bird bastard behind us is about to blow massive chunks!"Screamira informed Antonio as she led them out of the tunnels with her fellow Kaijin in her arms and Harriet over her shoulders.

The duo had briefly thought about alerting the captured warriors about the sudden explosion of [Law] that was about to occur but thought against it as they were escaping.

The blood between them was fairly bad, so there was a very real possibility that the captured warriors wouldn’t listen to Antonio’s words of warning.

Besides, the mercy thing was Zhen Liu’s thing, not theirs.

Regardless of any moral quandaries, though, Tezca’s birdmen were still doing their damn best. I’m trying to resolve the issue with Condorado’s [Law].

So far...they had nothing.

Other than providing moral support, neither Macawdo, Peacocina, nor Halcon was remotely qualified to assist their leader.

The only one who could’ve helped was Lord Tezca, and he was doing... something.

They had sent word to him earlier, but that line of communication was slow.

By the time it arrived, by the time he came back, it would’ve been far too late.

^I can feel it... raging inside me!^ Condorado growled, finding himself unable to control it. ^I need...I need to expel it before it gets worse!^

If Condorado didn’t release the raging [Law] inside of his body, it would’ve forced him to transform into a monstrosity that would rampage and surely destroy everything that belonged to his master.

As a loyal servant, such an act was less than ideal.

Having come to this conclusion, Condorado proceeded to slice open the palm of his hand and point the wound upward.

Condorado had no way of being able to stop the explosive burst of power from escaping his body, but he could at least direct it.

There was no good direction other than "up."

Surprisingly, he had managed to perform this action of his in a timely manner.

As such, the raging [Law] inside him did not turn him into a monster or cause him to explode like a balloon. Instead, it came out in the form of a giant beam that destroyed several layers of earth and tunnels directly above his head.

On the plus side, neither him, his allies, nor their base of operations was caught up in the collateral.

On the incredibly negative side, their base was now exposed to the elements.

"Holy shit!"

Not only that, but Screamira and her friends now had a brand new exit to make use of.

"I was going to lead us back to the shop, but this works way better!"

"MOVE!"
