Chapter 1491: ...And all it takes, is a little mistake.

"Alright, I think we have all three of them secured now," Alicia declared with pride. "Good job, everybody."

"Woo!"

"Victory!"

"Suck it, assholes!" 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

The moments that followed the successful double attack from Alicia and Bellona’s coordination were...brutal, to say the least.

After the Calamity Triplets were knocked to the ground, both the Zhen Clan scions and the former slave girls decided to gang up on them before they even had a chance to recover.

[Chaos]-coated feet and fists did wonders in piercing through the [Regalia] of the triplets, causing them to feel not only great physical pain but great mental pain as well due to this obvious defiance of an established norm.

Either way, confusion plus concussions equals a bad time for all.

Once the Calamity Triplets were beaten into unconsciousness, Alicia and the others then made moves to fully capture them.

They could’ve easily snapped their necks or sever their heads clean off at any point during the process, but they had held back from doing so due to their desire for answers about why they were attacking Axer’s workshop in the first place.

Technically, they knew why, but having concrete evidence to justify retaliation was just a good thing to have on hand.

At least, that’s what they learned from the time spent in the [Library of Nowhere] and from Zhen Liu.

Regardless, by the time that the group had finished tying up the Calamity Triplets, a series of events occurred one after the other and turned their victorious moment a bit...sour.

"Okay, now we just need to drag their asses inside and wait for Zhen Liu to return with-"

BANG!

"-HOLY SHIT!"

A booming sound akin to a triple-barreled cannon echoed throughout the area as Rianna apparently decided to turn an intruder of the workshop into a living ballista bolt. This booming sound was then followed by the sound of collapsing rubble.

"Huh...I guess that means someone did try to do something sneaky while we were fighting," Zhen Xing noted. "Wait...why am I now remembering that Rianna was still in the house?"

"Wait, I think I know this," Bellona answered. "She mentioned having learned a trick recently that allowed her to make it as if her very existence was similar to that of a bug’s. She mentioned that it was her way of being stealthy."

"That...is actually kind of terrifying," Zhen Tai commented as he wrapped his head around the fact that the six-foot-tall amazonian woman could now disappear like a ghost or a fly in a jungle. "You think the guy she nailed is still alive?"

"I’ve seen those arrows puncture the shell of a fourth-tier Rock Tortoise and weave through the wings of a third-tier Cyclone Dragonfly in flight," Zhen Xing replied. "That poor bastard is alive because she deems it so."

"Fair enou—"

Ding!

"What the..."

Unfortunately, before Zhen Tai could capitulate and give Zhen Xing the point he deserved, a strange ringing sound echoed from inside of the workshop and caused him to get a little...drowsy.

Hell, it wasn’t only him at the moment.

A noticeable wave of drowsiness washed over the group, but there was a noticeable difference in how each person was affected by this wave. To explain it briefly, the ones that had a deeper understanding of [Chaos] seemed to be significantly more drowsy in comparison to those with very shallow understanding.

"Oh man... I need to take a long nap..."

"I want to wait until they get back to cuddle, but I am very tempted to pass out right now..."

Bellona and Alicia both went from being the most chipper of the group to looking as if they hadn’t slept in two days in preparation for a final exam.

If it weren’t for the adrenaline of the earlier fight, the two of them would be snoring and snoozing by now.

"Hey... what the fuck is going on...? Why do I feel...sleepy?"

"I think...it has to do with...our [Chaos] cultivation."

"Oh...shit."

Zhen Xing and Zhen Tai both looked as if they had run three-mile marathons early in the morning and were just about ready to pass out on the street, using their shoes or each other as pillows if need be.

^What the fuck...is...is this seriously one of the drawbacks to cultivating [Chaos]?! Fuck, this sucks...^

^To be fair, with how powerful it is...I can understand why the drawback is this bad.^

The ones least affected by this sudden onset of sleepiness were Taurna and Lyona, who were only nodding off, thanks to the simple fact that these two were relatively new when it came to the art of cultivating [Chaos].

Now, it should be noted that despite their sudden sleepiness, Bellona, Alicia, the Zhen Clan scions, and the former slaves were not in any great danger at the moment due to having already taken care of their opponents.

However, the same could not be said for a certain someone who was the reason why they were able to learn about [Chaos] in the first place.

And that particular someone was also dealing with some fairly nasty feedback.

...Uh oh...

After touching the [Rainbowsmith’s Manual], Mei Yue (Zhen Liu) was feeling pretty good about herself and getting the confirmation that the information was being uploaded to the library.

She had managed to fulfill her goal, get a free meal out of it, and even learn some important details about a problem plaguing one of her lovers.

Sure, it came at the cost of having to pretend to be a woman for a few short hours, and going on a date with his literal natural enemy...all in front of his fiancee... but the gains outweighed the cost.

Mostly.

All that Mei Yue had to do now was simply remove her hand from Alain’s book bag and then she and Jinju Ren could simply...simply...siiimply...

’Oh no... what...the fuck???’

Unfortunately, life seemed to have other plans in mind.

From the eyes and ears of the Ragnarocker Kaijin, Zhen Liu saw that at the exact same time he had made contact with the manual of his predecessor, Rianna had decided to turn some weird-ass assassin armed with an aether treasure shaped like a bell into a pincushion.

During the process of pinning the bastard, though, Rianna had failed to grab the bell before it could fall and cast its spell.

As such, only seconds after she had received the confirmation message and about to remove her hand, Mei Yue found herself receiving the feedback of three of his kaijin being subjected to a sleep-based aether art.

In other words, Mei Yue’s mental faculties went from running at a full one hundred percent to only about twenty percent.

And it became very obvious to everyone around her.

Because, instead of simply releasing the book, the sudden bout of sleepiness caused Mei Yue to grip down on it hard instead, their instincts telling them to stop themselves from falling face-first to the ground.

^What the hell?! What are you—^

If Mei Yue had been alone at this moment—in other words, if there had been a scenario where Mei Yue had gone through the effort of seducing Alain and creating a scenario where they were by themselves so that she could secure the manual—then this would’ve been the moment she would be exposed as Zhen Liu.

That would then lead to a whole rolling brawl across the city that would eventually end with grievous injuries for all parties involved, including some bystanders.

Thankfully, though, Mei Yue wasn’t alone: she had her fiancee who knew how to lie on the spot better than even their childhood friend/lover.

^Oh my gods, Mei Yue, are you alright?^

The moment everyone noticed Mei Yue had taken a sudden dive forward, Ren Jia (Jinju Ren) had already begun to make moves to pull her away and into her arms, like a good friend making sure that another hadn’t fallen to an ill fate.

A slightly raised voice of concern and a few well-placed hands to make it appear as if Mei Yue had suddenly fainted, and most, if not all, of the suspicion in this moment had faded.

Especially after Mei Yue had thrown in a couple of hiccups and purposely spoke with a slightly slurred voice... then again, that slurring was probably more natural than she expected.

At least, this was the case for the people observing this situation unfold and for Alder, the observing outsider who was technically part of the group. As for Alain, one of the main participants in this turn of events, he had a very strange expression on his face. One that conveyed...suspicion.

^My word! Are you alright, Miss Mei Yue?^

^I think she’s fine, Mister Ecaredies," Ren Jia answered for Mei Yue. "I think she’s just exhausted from all of the festivities.^

^I see... in that case, I insist that we go with you to make sure you get back to your rooms safely.^

^Oh, that’s quite alright. You don’t need to-^

^No, we insist,^ Alain suddenly interjected for himself and Alder. ^We wouldn’t be gentlemen otherwise.^

^I...suppose that’s true. Very well.^

Needless to say, despite these polite words of thanks... Ren Jia knew that shit was about to get absolutely dicey.

...

[Fuck...I think he knows.]
