[I think you can let him get a few more attacks in.]
’Yeah, aight.’
...
^That... that’s because...,^ Kendana trailed off as he moved one of his hands to a small pouch he kept on his hips. ^That is because...^
^Because, what?!,^ Lythero shouted back out of frustration, his own fury blundj g him to Kendana’s actions until it was too late.
^Because a bastard like you deserved no quarter!,^ Kendana shouted back with certainty as he pulled from the pouch a black pill that radiated evil energy and swallowed it in one go.

A literal second layer, Kendana’s aura suddenly became a lot stronger and his circulation became even more vigorous.
^So this is the kind of power that an Aether Lord wields?! How intoxicating and infuriating!^
Doping pills that could boost one’s power levels beyond their regular limits were more common at the Aether Novice to Aether Master stage, but there were still a few that could be used at the later levels.
Granted, the pills that could boost the power of someone at the Grandmaster stage and bump them up to the Lord stage, had a tendency to have side effects to them.
For example, the pill Kendana just swallowed, the [Black Lotus Meridian Amplifier Pill], would grant him the ability to fight like an Aether Lord for the next ten minutes, but also horribly cripple his aether formula until it could be properly treated with an incredibly rare aether medicine known as the [White Lotus Meridian Restoration Powder].
Evidently, he must’ve been promised access to this powder or already did have access to it. Otherwise, no sane warrior would willingly take such a pill unless they were truly desperate.
Speaking of desperation, now that he was feeling the effects of the pill he just swallowed, Kendana didn’t waste any time in charging forward while preparing to throw a heavy haymaker at Lythero’s head.
^I don’t fucking care if you try and turn into smoke again! I’ll punch you hard enough to send you flying anyways you little-^
[Detox Fist!]
POW!
^Ulp!^
Before Kendana could finish his rant, or even throw that first punch, Lythero already closed the distance and landed an aether infused punch directly into Kendana’s solar plexus.
Not only did this punch stop Kendana dead in his tracks, but...
^Ulp...BLLAAAARGH!^
It forced him to barf up the pill he had just fatalistically swallowed moments ago...alongside his lunch from earlier that day.
Kendana was shocked to his core at not only how hard Lythero had punched him in the gut, but how the young bastard managed to force him to cough up the [Black Lotus Meridian Amplifier Pill] with it.
Even though he was doubled over with pain, Kendana still managed to lift his head up enough to stare into Lythero’s eyes.
Or at least, his [Regalia] covered face.
^H-how did you-^
^A long time ago,^ Lythero began to explain. ^I had accidentally swallowed an aether pill that my masters had secured from a wandering ruin. It had almost killed me, due to it being meant for Aether Kings, but Master Cobra used that exact same punch to get me to cough it up.^
After explaining this, Lythero proceeded to squat down in order to get on Kendana’s level.
^Honestly, I had no idea if that was going to work. I just wanted to punch in the stomach,^ Lythero answered. ^It makes it easier to do this!^
POW!
^Guh!^
At that last statement, Lythero proceeded to kick Kendana in the chin and sent the bastard flying upwards.
Kendana was airborne for only a couple of seconds before he came crashing down onto the ground.
Crack!
Shortly after the crash, Kendana’s [Regalia] had finally broken.
But he hadn’t lost consciousness yet.
...Meanwhile...
[Okay, now’s the time to get involved.]
’Indeed.’
...Now back to violence...
As a general rule of thumb, the shattering of a warrior’s [Regalia] was the ultimate admission to defeat at this level and above.
A [Regalia] is supposed to represent a warrior’s conviction, their ability to face the world and keep their ideals intact.
So the fact that Kendana’s [Regalia] broke after being batted around by Lythero’s attacks was a clear sign that Kendana had broken as a warrior.
This fact was not lost on the observing soldiers of the Cortez Company.
^Boss Kendana...his [Regalia] broke!^
^I never seen that happen before, hell, I always assumed it was a myth.^
^Then that means...the boss lost the will to keep fighting.^
Nor was this fact lost to Kendana’s fellow Grandmasters.
^No way...^
^Kendana, no!^
Despite getting their asses handed to them in a single move, both Rama and Leon still held on to their convictions and were more than willing to keep fighting. Granted, their convictions were shaken so their [Regalia] didn’t repair themselves as quickly as normal, but they weren’t broken.
So the fact that the strongest among them had broken first was... disheartening to say the least.
Not that Lythero cared.
If anything, he was a little pissed.
^That’s it? After all this time, after all these years, that’s it?!^
^S-stay away from me!,^ Kendana yelled as he crawled backwards and away from the raging Lythero.
For years, Lythero knew that Kendana and his company were responsible for suppressing his abilities further than they already were. He knew damn well that they were sent by that Duke in order to keep an eye on him, and that was part of the reason why he always found himself shortchanged or fucked out of every single lead to fixing his condition.
And now, after all of that, the main proxy for all of his woes, the most immediate source of his humdrum existence...was begging for his life.
Lythero thought such a moment would have been more fulfilling, but no.
Instead, he just felt...annoyed.
^Fuck it, just...FUCK IT! I might as well practice how I’m going to kill Duke Diamoro, by practicing it on you,^ Lythero roared as he raised his sword, ready to cut Kendana down.
However, at the moment Lythero raised his sword to its apex height, he suddenly felt a hand grabbing his wrist.
^Alright, that’s enough of that.^
^Eh?^
That hand was none other than Zhen Liu’s, and he was keeping a vice grip on Lythero’s sword wielding hand. Despite the fact that he wasn’t even holding that tightly, Lythero could feel that there was no way in hell he’d be able to break this grip. That said, he was nowore focused on wanting answers right now.
^What the-wait, what? What are you-^
^Butterfly effect,^ Zhen Liu interjected.
^Butter-what?^
While keeping his hand on Lythero’s wrist, Zhen Liu began to elaborate on a more relevant version of the Butterfly Effect.
^The butterfly effect is the idea that one action can lead to a cascade of consequences elsewhere, with the famous example being a butterfly on one side of the world causing a hurricane in the other,^ Zhen Liu explained. ^Now, you could kill this coward’s ass, but then what?^
^Then...then I’d kill the Duke!^
^Maybe, but look around. Notice something?^
^That...^
Now that he was forced to take a pause, Lythero could see that outside of yhis ruined lot, there was a whole army of soldiers that was still alive and watching this entire battle fold out.
That said, he still had no idea what Zhen Liu was getting at...until he spelled it out for him.
^Okay, so there’s a whole army watching. I can just kill them all.^
^And that’s the issue,^ Zhen Liu said without skipping a beat. ^You kill him now, you’ll probably have to kill everyone else here. Then, while you’re going on your revenge journey to kill Duke Diamoro, who will probably be on the alert once you kill Kendana, the families of these future fallen soldiers will probably try to get revenge on you later. It’s a very dumb cycle, yes?^
At this reasoning, Lythero couldn’t help but to pause and think over all of these possible future revenge plots that would be created as a result.
It would be a pain killing all of those people...and he knew his masters wouldn’t let him be stuck in such a stupid cycle.
He still wasn’t happy about being forced into this realization though.
^Then what do you suggest I do? Let bygones be bygones and leave?,^ Lythero complained in a sarcastic tone of voice.
^No, I’m just saying you get your revenge...but be a touch more... clever about it. Like so.^
^What the-hey!^
While keeping his hand locked on Lythero’s wrist, Zhen Liu proceeded to walk over to the panicking Kendana and picking him up with his other hand.
Zhen Liu then spent the next few moments repositioning the two men he had at his mercy into a pose.
More specifically, he made it appear as if Lythero was holding Kendana hostage.
Which...he was.
^Attention Cortez Company!,^ Zhen Liu shouted with an aether enhanced voice. ^My friend here is going to slice your boss’s head off, however, if the price is right, we’ll let him go. So, what say you all?^
