Kaidan Game Train: Abide Rule or Die!-Chapter 2198: The Universal Answer
As the Divine Birth Day approaches, Holy Land City has already entered a pre-heating phase. Besides the city arrangements, the shops within the city hold activities daily. Unlike other Satellite Cities, one can occasionally see children playing happily here.
Xu Huo had a good rest at night; he went downstairs in the morning and met those players from last night before heading to the Divine Temple.
Today, there is a Goddess encircling temple activity. Two teams, totaling twenty people, must walk around this grand Divine Temple at least three times. During the encircling process, they will sing songs specially composed for the Goddess—I don’t know if it’s written in a self-created language, as Xu Huo couldn’t understand the lyrics, but the melody was very pleasant with effects calming and focusing the mind.
After the Saintess’s team moved away, Xu Huo entered the Divine Temple again.
Yesterday, he delivered some harsh words here; today, upon entering, he got special attention. Several players, dressed in the attire of Divine Temple believers, closely followed him without interfering with his freedom but remained very vigilant.
Not only these players were active in the Divine Temple, but also numerous Saintesses; they wandered around occasionally talking to incoming believers or responding to the Saintess singing outside by singing a segment of the song themselves.
A Hai had already donned the attire of a Divine Temple believer today, following a Saintess to listen to her daily work arrangements within the Divine Temple.
This Saintess, unlike others, didn’t wear a veil; her face, hard to distinguish between male and female, revealed a charisma not matching their mild-mannered speech but rather a kind of power inconsistent with her identity, just as A Hai said, full of strength.
Full of strength, yet not players.
Noticing his gaze, the Saintess turned around and asked A Hai, "Is that your friend?"
A Hai was a bit surprised, and upon seeing Xu Huo, he felt somewhat delighted. After exchanging a few words with the Saintess, he walked toward him.
"Is your arm already healed?" A Hai took out a small oval jade stone from his pocket and handed it to Xu Huo, "This jade, blessed by the Saintess, can grant you the Goddess’s protection."
Xu Huo accepted it and then asked him whether he had informed the neighbors in the town.
"I told them last night," A Hai said excitedly, "And I will participate in the encircling ceremony of the Divine Birth Day five days later. It will be broadcast on TV, and then everyone in the town can see me!"
He wiped away yesterday’s confusion, focusing all attention on the encircling ceremony.
After discussing the ceremony arrangements, he mentioned two dual-genders from the Satellite City who, like him, are in the assessment phase; those two came early and have already completed the conception ritual.
"Conception ritual?" Xu Huo interrupted, "They aren’t official Saintesses and already started conceiving?"
"Just a ritual, not actual conception," A Hai explained the process in detail. It’s basically like a physical examination, checking their physical condition and then formulating a conception plan. Since their chances of giving birth to healthy children are comparatively low, both parties need to undergo suitability screening.
"This process is sacred," A Hai evidently understood the entire conception process, "The Goddess will deliver an oracle then."
Xu Huo listened silently and commented moments later, "The Goddess really manages everything."
A Hai found it reasonable and was mentally prepared to nurture the next generation for the country’s and district’s future, "I am weak, but I hope my child can grow stronger."
"No Saintess became players?" Xu Huo asked again.
This district has players; judging by their gender marks, most are male.
Here, males don’t necessarily mean pure men; they differ from dual-genders possessing two complete reproductive systems. Strictly speaking, these people can also be considered dual-genders like in other districts, but according to local definitions, children born by them are mostly not "dual-genders," while perfect dual-genders are scarce and chosen as Saintesses, shouldering the responsibility of raising elite children.
It’s unclear what’s the situation with those marked "male" or "female" players or if Saintesses are indeed true dual-genders. But perfect dual-genders can give birth to stronger generations, yet no Saintesses become players, which is certainly abnormal.
A Hai paused before answering, "Saintesses are beloved by the Goddess, hence, they don’t need to become players."
Another all-encompassing answer.
"Aren’t you going to work?" the player trailing Xu Huo shouted, interrupting their conversation.
A Hai bowed slightly, waved to Xu Huo, and then left to chase after the Saintess.
"Why is the Goddess Statue covered?" Xu Huo asked the person behind him; after a few seconds of no response, he repeated the question.
Eventually, someone couldn’t hold back and replied, "What does it have to do with you?"
"I’m just curious. Since you all worship the Goddess, why instead make her out of sight?" Xu Huo said.
"Can you Outer Zone people see the true visage of the Goddess?" the player behind retorted.
"Not even on the Divine Birth Day?" Xu Huo asked again.
After two seconds of silence, the person gritted their teeth and said, "On the Divine Birth Day, the Goddess Statue will certainly be brought out to receive the believers’ worship."
Xu Huo seemed to have gotten a satisfactory answer, spun his wheelchair, and left.
With still plenty of time today, he explored all accessible areas within the Divine Temple—at noon, he even had a meal in the cafeteria—and attended a religious lecture before leaving.
The innermost part of the Divine Temple is covered with props and is off-limits to outsiders, preventing any inquiry into what lies within, though neither Saintesses nor others congregated in the cafeteria or other places, suggesting their usual activity and residences might be behind there.
The Divine Temple is sizeable but can’t accommodate all workers and players, so Xu Huo began aimlessly roaming the city after leaving the temple; his accessible areas are limited, requiring application for inter-region travel, but the procedures are uncomplicated, needing only a visit to the government office and one to two hours before heading to the next zone.
The festive warm-up masks the surging undercurrents; despite more players appearing on the streets, it does not seem odd as many Outer Zone players requiring clearance congregate near the Divine Temple, whereas players seen elsewhere in the city tend to be those who failed to pass and had stayed behind.
Some joined the Goddess Church and now work for the district government, while others merely settled here. Compared to tight-lipped local players, these long-term residents of the area speak candidly about the Divine Temple’s circumstances.
Besides the Divine Envoy’s excessive control over the Goddess Church and the Saintesses’ discord, Xu Huo also heard other news: offspring from combinations of Outer Zone players and locals, aside from a few defects, mostly closely resemble normal people as perceived by Outer Zone individuals, no longer possessing two sets of reproductive systems.
