Kaidan Game Train: Abide Rule or Die!-Chapter 2195: A Favor to Ask
The atmosphere of the Holy Land is vastly different from that of Purple Lake City. Not only do they lack the confidence that comes from deep-rooted conviction, but there is also a sharp tension, markedly distinct from the cultists of the Goddess Church previously encountered.
This doesn’t mean they aren’t true believers, rather this state speaks volumes.
Apart from altering the Deity’s Day, the beliefs of the Holy Land’s followers have probably been thoroughly purged from top to bottom.
Under normal circumstances, changing a Deity’s Day isn’t that big of a deal.
Because the starting point of the Goddess’s descent is so long past, there isn’t a strict distinction in lineage anymore. Most people probably carry the genes of that lame girl, and the position of the Divine Envoy in the Goddess Church is already unparalleled. Calling upon "ancestral records" would suffice, without also needing to change the Deity’s Day. Firstly, not all believers could accept it, and secondly, the unshakeable faith built up over a long time might be skewed by such a rash correction—an endeavor that hardly seems worth it.
But why did the Divine Envoy insist on doing this? Aside from consolidating his own status and brainwashing ordinary believers, to the point of even destabilizing the foundation of the Goddess Church to exclude the ancestral hero, there’s likely been a significant internal church dispute within the high ranks of the Goddess Church.
In the higher ranks of the Goddess Church, apart from the Divine Envoy and the Saintess, the rest are a group of players.
Since the Saintess, who represents the identity of the ancestral hero, has been marginalized, it indicates an irreconcilable conflict between her and the Divine Envoy. It has reached a point where one must suppress the other.
Seen this way, it makes sense that the Holy Land was completely unaware of the Saintess being killed. Regardless of whether it’s a trap, or who is setting it, the Divine Envoy would block the news. At the very least here in the Holy Land, the Divine Envoy already holds the advantage.
What kind of conflict would lead to a self-destructive level?
Xu Huo was stopped outside the Divine Hall’s Main Gate, not by the patterns on the gate, but by two players.
"You show no respect to the Divine Envoy; come back tomorrow."
The incident in the restaurant just now spread through various channels to the Divine Temple here.
"The Goddess hasn’t barred me from entering, yet the Divine Envoy intends to stop me, is that it?" Xu Huo deliberately raised his voice, unless the Divine Envoy and the Holy Land believers no longer acknowledge the Goddess, they couldn’t possibly remain indifferent.
The blocking players indeed wore ugly expressions, but under the gaze of many believers, they moved aside.
As Xu Huo entered, one of them added, "Rushing to your death, I’d like to see if you can come out."
The opponent used a prop, so no one around could hear it, and Xu Huo acted as though he hadn’t heard.
Upon stepping through the Divine Hall’s Main Gate, he immediately felt a spiritual pressure several times that of the Satellite City Temple, and it wasn’t merely as simple as two sub-temples; towers, Goddess Temple, annexes, lecture halls, auditoriums, landscapes—the number was almost in the hundreds, far surpassing Xu Huo’s spatial awareness.
In such a vast space, eye patterns were carved everywhere. Unlike the complex overlaps repeated in Satellite City, these patterns weren’t so dense, but they ensured that every wall and every piece of ground was watched by "eyes."
Even without deliberately observing the patterns, the omnipresent mental interference made it somewhat strenuous for Xu Huo, and this was without being in an instance state. What actual dungeon players would face...
Unintentionally catching sight of a player who suddenly vanished into the wall in the main hall up front, he frowned slightly; indeed, this place was a multi-dimensional space.
After pausing for a moment, Xu Huo’s expression changed abruptly, and he instantly teleported to the entrance of the Goddess Temple a thousand meters away—under the covered Goddess Statue, A Hai knelt on the ground, eyes closed, waiting for something. Standing to his right were two players, while to his left stood a Saintess with her face veiled, the two sides seeming to be in a standoff.
"I’ve come to fetch my friend." Breaking the silence, Xu Huo forcibly entered the temple, ignoring the people on either side, and lightly patted A Hai on the shoulder, "Get up."
A Hai looked up at the Goddess Statue ahead, stood up somewhat dejectedly, and at this moment, the Saintess beside him suddenly walked over, held his hand, and asked, "Are you willing to undergo the Saintess’s test?"
A Hai froze, "You know I’m..."
"The Saintess is guided by the Goddess, and I can see at a glance that you are of dual-gender." The Saintess seemed to smile, "I’m sure you also felt the summons of the Goddess, which is why you traveled thousands of miles to the Holy Land."
Naturally, A Hai was happy, but amidst his joy, he couldn’t help feeling uneasy, "But I didn’t receive the Goddess’s..."
The Saintess squeezed his hand firmly, "The Goddess’s guidance isn’t solely through words; it might just be a sudden thought that arises, perhaps a devout prayer." 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
The scope of this statement was so broad it was irrebuttable.
A Hai’s goal was to become the Saintess, but his experiences over the past few days made him lose the pure bliss out of this sudden stroke of good fortune; he came to the Holy Land seeking the culmination of his faith, only to find at the threshold that the culmination wasn’t perfect, nor was the Holy Land exalted.
"Are you willing?" The Saintess inquired.
"I... am willing..." A Hai hesitated before making up his mind, "Do I need to prepare anything for the test?"
"Come, I’ll tell you everything." The Saintess took his hand and was about to lead him away, but A Hai turned to look at Xu Huo and stopped, "May I say goodbye to my friend?"
The Saintess released him.
A Hai walked back to Xu Huo, taking out some healing herbs and bandaging tools from his backpack, "These are prepared for you... Use them if you need, if not... never mind. Thank you for bringing me to the Holy Land. You are a good man, and your family must miss you very much; you should go home early."
Xu Huo, recognizing the goodwill in his words, smiled, "I’ll be staying at the Shitan Hotel outside to recover for the next few days; you can come find me if you have time."
A Hai’s lips moved slightly, but instead of persuading him to leave, he followed the Saintess.
They departed, and the two players intended to leave as well.
Raising a hand, Xu Huo gently beckoned in the air, surrounding them with spatial ray blades coming from all directions.
The sudden appearance of a defensive barrier jolted the two into turning back sharply.
"Forget being so fierce beneath the Goddess Statue." Xu Huo gestured to the cover behind them, "I’m not looking for trouble, just seeking to ask you a favor."
"Please convey to the Divine Envoy and other colleagues," the earlier smile on his face gradually faded, his expression turning cold, "the person the Saintess took away is my friend, and whatever happens, do not harm him; otherwise, before I leave this area, I will take a group of people with me."
"You guard the temple and dungeon venue, the closest to the Goddess and the truth about the Goddess, you should know better than anyone if the Goddess is omnipotent or not."
"No matter what disputes there might be within the Goddess Church, if everyone’s dead, there’s no reason left to fight over, is there?"
