Chapter 94: The First Apocalypse Part 3

"Ahh"

"Uff-Uff"

Lucien woke up screaming and breathing heavily. He was back in his apartment, and it was still winter. His hand touched his shoulder, where the mutant bird had torn off a huge chunk of flesh. He felt all the pain and despair of being bitten and infected, and when he looked at his father and saw the same expression on his face, he knew he wouldn’t survive this...

"Is this how I died in the first apocalypse?"

Lucien murmured somewhat incredulously, but unlike his innocent self, he knew there was nothing he could do to change the past. He also didn’t know if he would dream about the first apocalypse again, but he hoped so; after all, this was the first night he hadn’t had nightmares about the people he killed, and he also hoped to check on his mother’s situation through this dream.

Without rushing, he got up and went to the kitchen for breakfast. Then, he focused all his attention on his various daily missions, ensuring he would continue training and getting stronger so that when winter ended, he wouldn’t be a burden to his father, and only then could he think about protecting those he cared about. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

That particular day, after completing all his daily missions, Lucien contacted Nina to ensure she was alright and perhaps share a little about his dream with her. But Nina, now a Level 3 mutant, had finally taken the first step towards mastering her Universal Force. Lucien congratulated his friend, despite being somewhat jealous that he wasn’t yet a Level 3 mutant, and said goodbye, shifting his focus to his former babysitter.

But upon contacting Laura, all he did was become a listener again. The teenage girl complained about being bored at home, complained about feeling claustrophobic, complained about the difficult lessons her father gave her, and how jealous she was of the time her father was spending with his new tenant, William’s mother...*1

Sighing, Lucien ended the conversation with Laura and thought it best not to tell the two girls anything; it seemed they already had enough problems to deal with. Without much choice about what to do, he ate dinner again in his father’s room while venting alone and finally went to sleep, and, as expected, as soon as he fell asleep, he dreamed again about the first apocalypse...

Lorenzo froze for a second, observing Lucien’s panicked look as he was bitten, then he did something that shocked both versions of Lucien. With just a simple glance, the level 2 mutant bird that had just bitten(pecked) his son turned to dust, leaving only a level 2 crystal behind.

Then, it approached Lucien and slid its hand over the wound on his shoulder, making it disappear instantly, leaving not even a trace of blood.

"There, son, don’t worry, everything will be alright!"

Lucien looked incredulously at the spot where he had been infected and asked once more to confirm: "Are you sure?"

"Of course! Are you doubting your father’s powers?"

Young Lucien finally relaxed, and they continued their journey, but Lucien the Spectator, who had been observing everything from another perspective, realized that things weren’t so simple...

For the next four days, Lucien and his father continued their journey. They slept in abandoned and dusty places in the city of Gran Luz, looted any supplies they could find and carry, and easily killed any infected that crossed their path.

Meanwhile, each day that passed, observing his and his father’s journey through the first apocalypse, Lucien would wake from his dreams. He would carry out his many daily missions, feed his still-sick father with crystals, and talk to, or rather, just listen to his two friends. Then, when night fell, and he slept, he would dream again of the first apocalypse. He always continued his dream in the same place and time as the previous night.

After four days of long walking, as night was falling, the father and son finally arrived at the Port of Gran Luz. In the middle of the sea near the Port, they could see a cargo ship floating with its anchor. The ship had undergone several improvements and looked like a floating island full of lights that stood out as night fell.

According to the messages they exchanged with their mother, this ship was not only the means of transport that would take them to the Capital Aethoria, but it was also the largest survivor base in the city of Gran Luz.

Everyone aboard that ship was a powerful mutant, a scientist, or a relative of the larger group of survivors who were in the Capital of Jyera.

After Lucien and his father settled into their quarters on the ship, Lucien spent the next two days without seeing his father, as he was discussing the details of the sea voyage with the other adult mutants on board.

In a certain area of the ship, Lucien ended up finding several young people of similar ages and began to befriend them. Although he had only known these children for two days, it felt like, for a brief moment, he had returned to living like a normal child.

Although most of the children only talked about mutant powers and monsters, it was still fun for Lucien to finally have someone his own age to talk to.

His popularity among these children began to spread as he recounted the many dangers he had faced with his father in the cities. Furthermore, it was through these children that Lucien heard about the dangers of traveling by sea...

According to the children, the sea was dominated and divided by level 4 mutant sea creatures, which were called Leviathans. Each of these Leviathans was colossal in size; they could easily swallow ships larger than even the cargo ship they were currently on, and they had gigantic territories, dominating large areas. As they were cannibalistic mutants, few level 3 mutant sea creatures dared to enter their territories, as they would end up being devoured.

But it was thanks to the Leviathans that they could travel safely to the capital, Aethoria. They only needed to avoid the areas without these monsters, which were teeming with hordes of level 2 and 3 mutants.

"But how do we avoid the Leviathans devouring us?"

Lucien asked, somewhat confused and worried, knowing that his ship would be sailing through an area with mutant monsters the size of mountains.

"Hehe."

The boy telling the story of the Leviathans was even younger than Lucien, only 8 years old, but he smiled with an air of wisdom, having finally piqued the interest of the newcomer, who seemed to know everything. He then crossed his arms and looked mysterious, like a charlatan, and said, "You’ll see tomorrow morning!"

Lucien was very frustrated to see the other children laughing at the scene, but he still anxiously awaited seeing how the ship would move through the monsters’ territory.

And with the arrival of the following morning, he watched the ship depart from the Port of Gran Luz and also witnessed an incredible display of power and teamwork from a group of several Level 3 mutant humans...

While Lucien watched the ship depart, inside his father’s cabin, Lorenzo cut off one of his fingers with a sharp knife, then burned the wound with a blue flame, and used his Universal Force to alter his face and hide the wrinkles that were beginning to appear around his eyes and forehead...

Only adults will understand what’s happening here between these two widowers...
