Just A Daoist Who Occasionally Kicks Ass-Chapter 437: The Four-Eyed Illegitimate God! The Arhat Manifestation! The Mysterious Coffin, and the Immaculate Body!
It was obvious that the two old men had practiced a combined attack technique. And since they were twin brothers, their minds and qi were perfectly in sync, so their combined arts would surely unleash tremendous power.
Bang!
The hemp ropes at their waists snapped through the air, producing sharp sonic booms. These ropes, soaked in cinnabar and rooster’s blood, and refined through a special artifact-forging ritual using the Earth’s core fire, were Corpse-Binding Cords, which were highly effective against vicious corpses and undead beings.
With that, the brothers attacked the half-destroyed Daoist in unison. The Daoist pulled out a peachwood branch, and its edge sliced sharply through the air again and again, each stroke brimming with lethal precision.
At the same time, a wave of pure yang qi radiated outward. This was not the yin-heavy miasma of an evil corpse at all, but rather the upright and righteous power of Daoist arts!
As the two old men struck, the others could no longer restrain themselves; they too unleashed their techniques and charged forward. In total, more than a dozen cultivators attacked simultaneously, their combined might shaking heaven and earth.
The half-bodied Daoist’s eyes ignited with golden flames, and the peachwood branch in his hand suddenly transformed into a massive sword.
Boom!
A towering monk with a skull for a head was struck by the giant sword. The skull shattered, and his body was cleaved cleanly in half, his entrails spilling across the ground. He died on the spot! The sheer speed and efficiency of the kill sent chills down everyone’s spine.
Among the crowd, a fat monk with a constant, gentle smile on his face, who until now had seemed unconcerned with anything, suddenly had his eyes flash with greed as he caught sight of the alchemy furnace. Without hesitation, he sent his primordial spirit out of his body, manifesting an enormous Asura Dharma form that charged furiously toward the furnace!
“Bastard! Trying to snatch the prize for yourself!?” Several cultivators shouted furiously.
In an instant, countless primordial spirit manifestations flared to life, their auras soaring sky-high.
There were a Vajra Guardian of esoteric Buddhism wielding a Demonslayer Pestle, a snarling Yaksha prowling along the ground, a Rakshasa King[1] brandishing a flaying knife, a four-eyed, six-armed Bodhisattva, and even a bull-headed, human-bodied illegitimate god.
A dazzling array of divine and demonic forms filled the air.
“Good heavens,” someone muttered, “these are all cultivators who’ve refined their primordial spirit manifestations to mastery!”
Zhang Wei was stunned.
Primordial spirits moved with lightning speed, so their manifestations turned into streams of brilliant light, all striking toward the half-bodied Daoist.
Many among these attackers were heretical monks and demonic Daoists; their origins could be seen clearly from the grotesque and twisted forms of their manifested avatars. A few righteous cultivators stood to the side, watching coldly, choosing not to interfere.
Li Yanchu’s gaze swept the battlefield, and suddenly, he caught sight of a familiar figure. It was Xiao Ran, the prodigy whose slender, delicate frame contrasted sharply with her astonishing natural talent.
At this time, she hadn’t noticed Li Yanchu. Her expression was tense, her beautiful eyes fixed anxiously on the unfolding battle.
“Out of my way!” a thunderous voice exploded across the field.
A burly Arhat, towering a zhang and two chi tall, strode forward. Behind him, a blazing wheel of fire spun, radiating unbearable heat. His entire body was sculpted with muscle, as if cast from molten gold.
With a single, savage charge, he slammed straight into a ground-walking Yaksha whose head bore a single glaring eye.
Boom!
The Yaksha’s primordial spirit manifestation was instantly shattered into two halves, then, the flames from the Arhat’s fire wheel swept forward and reduced it to ashes.
It was a brutal, merciless strike, truly cold and domineering. The display of overwhelming might froze everyone in place.
“What do you think you’re doing!?” a four-eyed, six-armed illegitimate god roared furiously.
He had formed an alliance with the Yaksha to search for fortune together in this Blissful Land , yet now, the Yaksha’s spirit had been utterly obliterated!
His soul and essence were gone, wiped from existence.
“A few lowly illegitimate gods and false deities, you think yourselves worthy to raise your voice before me!?” the Arhat manifestation sneered coldly.
He struck out with his fist , and a colossal print of golden power, vast as Mount Tai itself, came crashing down with suffocating force! The illegitimate god’s manifestation was severely wounded on the spot.
The Arhat’s palm opened wide, his fire wheel blazing behind him as he prepared to refine the illegitimate god’s avatar into nothingness. It was a vicious act, steeped in killing intent. And after devouring the Yaksha’s manifestation just moments before, his aura had grown even more violent and domineering.
Anyone could see what he intended: he was devouring other primordial spirit manifestations to strengthen his own.
And yet, this man, this devourer, was shrouded in the radiant golden glow of Buddhist power, and his body emanated the brilliance of merit and incense-born faith.
Suddenly, a blinding purple radiance tore through the sky. A mysterious jade coffin burst through the air, descending like divine judgment. Its terrifying aura slammed straight into the Arhat manifestation!
BOOM!!!
A deafening explosion resounded. The surrounding primordial spirit manifestations all flared with defensive light shields, desperately resisting the devastating shockwave that followed.
“You act in such a way, do you take my Demonic Dao for having no one to oppose you!?”
The mysterious jade coffin was itself a manifestation of a powerful primordial spirit technique. Its voice was cold, edged with an unmistakable murderous intent. It was clear the two already bore deep enmity toward one another, and when enemies met, hatred burned all the fiercer.
The Arhat manifestation erupted in dazzling golden Buddha light, the massive flaming wheel behind his head radiating overwhelming might.
The mysterious coffin, meanwhile, was shrouded in surging black miasma. Anything that entered its domain was instantly swallowed by that darkness. Their divine techniques, each one fused with the power of primordial spirit visualization, clashed violently across the sky, the collision of their auras raging like a hurricane.
The Arhat’s fists roared as they moved, dragging forth twin torrents of blinding golden energy. It was the Hellbane Astral Fist, a great divine art meant to strike terror into all fiends. The jade coffin refused to yield, and waves of inky black energy, like countless iron chains, lashed out ceaselessly toward the Arhat.
The two figures battled midair, their fight fierce and unrelenting, neither gaining the upper hand. The sight of their clash was terrifying beyond words, and each exchange of their manifested divine powers was more shocking than heavenly lightning itself.
The Arhat’s Visualization Method and the mysterious coffin’s Visualization Method were clearly on a level far beyond their own Rakshasa King’s or the illegitimate god’s Visualization Methods.
Many among the onlookers couldn’t help but gasp in awe.
“To draw out such terrifying opponents... incredible.”
Fortunately, the duel between the two was taking place high above. Their divine powers collided in the heavens, their auras tearing through the clouds. The other primordial spirit experts glanced at each other, then once more joined forces to attack the half-bodied Daoist beside the refining furnace.
The Daoist’s enormous sword gleamed with razor-sharp brilliance. Had it not been for the combined restraint of the other primordial spirit experts, the Corpse-Binding Cords in the hands of the two twin elders in red and green robes would likely have already been shattered.
Even so, with all these masters working together, they were still gradually being pushed back.
The aura from the half-bodied Daoist only grew stronger, and a surge of radiant violet energy burst from his body, carrying with it a sensation of piercing sharpness, as though nothing under heaven could withstand it.
Several righteous cultivators exchanged wary glances. If these demonic cultivators and opportunists all perished here at the hands of this half-bodied Daoist, then they would have no chance to claim the refining furnace.
In life, this half-bodied Daoist must have been a third realm powerhouse. Otherwise, even in death, his remains could never possess such horrifying might.
Boom!
Boom!
The primordial spirit experts surrounded their prey and attacked fiercely, seeking to seize the furnace and the treasure it contained.
Just then, the Rakshasa King’s manifestation lunged forward, his flaying knife stabbing hard into the disheveled half-bodied Daoist.
Clang!
A piercing metallic clang rang out, and yet, the Daoist’s flesh remained unscathed.
“Eh!? A Daoist Immaculate Body!?” The Rakshasa King’s expression wavered in shock.
No one would have imagined that this half-destroyed corpse, torn apart and mangled beyond recognition, would still possess the legendary Immaculate Body of the Dao. It was a supreme cultivation art similar to Buddhism’s Indestructible Vajra Body, impervious to blades and weapons, immune to spells and sorcery alike.
Gasp! Everyone drew in a sharp breath. If that Daoist possessed the Immaculate Body, then what kind of terrifying being had the power to tear his body apart!?
At once, their minds flashed back to what they had witnessed earlier: that ancient, forbidden severed hand... the Golden-Winged Roc of Buddhist myth... and the Serpent God.
A sense of awe filled their hearts, but right alongside it, a blazing greed began to stir.
1. A rakshasa is a malevolent, supernatural being prominent in Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain mythologies, often depicted as a flesh-eating demon with a human-like form but with supernatural powers used for evil. These beings are known for disrupting rituals, acting violently, and are sometimes associated with greed, anger, and ignorance. In many stories, they are the antagonists fought against with magic or virtue, or act as guardians of the wicked in the afterlife.
