Journey to the West: Tang Monk Conquers Everything-Chapter 465: Zhu Bajie: Come and Taste the Number One Porridge in the World
It must be said, different perspectives yield entirely different conclusions on the same issue.
When Jiang Liu watched "Journey to the West" in his previous life, he always thought Princess Wansheng and the Nine-Headed Serpent were villains. After all, being married and yet colluding with another man seemed quite evil to him.
Therefore, in the original story, he almost wished the White Dragon Horse could kill both Princess Wansheng and the Nine-Headed Serpent.
But, standing in Benboba's shoes, he felt that the White Dragon Horse was the villain.
From Benboba's point of view, Princess Wansheng and the Nine-Headed Serpent were deeply in love, even privately committed to each other for life. Yet, Little White Dragon wanted to forcefully take that love for himself, which made him the villain in Benboba's eyes.
Speaking of how Little White Dragon set the Pearl of the Palace ablaze and was punished by the Jade Emperor, crushed beneath Eagle Sorrow Stream, Benboba relayed the tale with great satisfaction.
Benboba's words elicited a sympathetic look from Sun Wukong and the others who sat beside him.
In the presence of Little White Dragon, such a kick-when-down attitude seemed to suggest that this Fish Demon was practically courting death!
Sure enough, as Benboba spoke, Little White Dragon's expression turned extremely ugly. His eyes flickered erratically, filled with anger, hate, and also a trace of contemplation...
Jiang Liu glanced at Little White Dragon and privately mourned for Benboba. However, as the conversation had reached this point and the truth about the relationship between Princess Wansheng and the Nine-Headed Serpent had come to light, including her near-cancellation of the wedding, Jiang Liu no longer felt inclined to stay and chat.
"Alright, I've had some insights recently and will return to my room to cultivate. Enjoy your meal!" Anticipating that Zhu Bajie's dark cooking might soon be ready, Jiang Liu stood up and announced his departure.
"Master, you're going to go back to your room and cultivate now? Shouldn't Second Brother's congee be almost ready?" Upon hearing Jiang Liu's intention to leave, Sha Wujing asked.
"Hmm, as you know, cultivation is not only about persistent effort but also about sudden enlightenment. There will be plenty of opportunities to savor Bajie's cooking in the future, no need to rush!" Jiang Liu shook his head and replied.
"Master has a point; then, go ahead. I hope you reach new heights in your cultivation!" Sha Wujing found Jiang Liu's words reasonable and nodded in agreement.
Without much additional conversation, not even staying to see how Little White Dragon would deal with Benboba, Jiang Liu turned and left the dining hall, heading back to his own room alone.
"Big Brother, what are you looking at?" Noticing Sun Wukong's gaze lingering on Jiang Liu's departing figure, Sha Wujing quietly inquired.
"Junior Brother Sha, I have this uneasy feeling that Master's departure this time seems a bit peculiar," Sun Wukong, with a contemplative look on his face, expressed his concern to his junior.
"Peculiar? What's peculiar about it?" Sun Wukong's comment caught Sha Wujing off guard, prompting him to ask in a hushed tone.
"I can't put my finger on it, I just feel that something is off!" Shaking his head, Sun Wukong appeared baffled.
Sun Wukong and Sha Wujing's conversation did not involve Little White Dragon, who naturally kept quiet. More importantly, his attention was focused on Benboba.
Little White Dragon could tell that Benboba wasn't the brightest, so he hoped to coax some more information out of him.
"Benboba, how has Princess Wansheng's life been these past years? Is the Nine-Headed Serpent truly kind to her?" After a long silence, White Dragon Horse asked Benboba.
"Of course!" Hearing White Dragon Horse's question, Benboba nodded and said, "The Prince Consort would do anything for our princess!"

"Back then, their marriage was opposed by the Dragon King, so he wanted to marry the princess off to Crown Prince Aolie of the Western Sea Dragon Palace instead. But for the sake of our princess, the Prince Consort joined our Green Wave Pool Dragon Palace family. How could he not be good to her? Even the Old Dragon King, who initially opposed their marriage staunchly, was completely won over!"
"Sigh..." Benboba's words led White Dragon Horse to let out a sigh in his heart.
Indeed, if the man was willing to marry into the woman's family, how could he treat her poorly?
"This is bad!" All of a sudden, Sun Wukong, who had been feeling uneasy about his master's departure without being able to pinpoint the reason, suddenly seemed to realize something and exclaimed loudly.
"Big Brother, what's wrong!?" At Sun Wukong's outburst, Sha Wujing's face turned anxious as he quickly inquired.
"Gentlemen, here comes the world's no. 1 porridge made by I, Old Pig!" However, before Sun Wukong could reply, Zhu Bajie burst in, confidently carrying a large pot of porridge.
"Wow, the world's no. 1 porridge?" Upon hearing Zhu Bajie's boastful claim, Sha Wujing's eyes brightened considerably. "Second Brother, you've managed to cook the world's best porridge on your first try? I didn't expect you to be so skilled!"
"Of course! Heh heh heh..."
Pleased with Sha Wujing's response, Zhu Bajie nodded proudly and said, "Actually, cooking isn't difficult. Of course, it's possible that I, Old Pig, am just naturally talented, hahaha. Come on, don't be shy, bring your bowls over, and I'll serve you the porridge!"
"Okay, Second Brother!" Sha Wujing took his word for it, nodded, and hurried to fetch some bowls from the kitchen.
Of course, the first bowl of porridge should be served to Master.
After ladling out the first bowl of porridge with a large bowl, Zhu Bajie looked around and then asked somewhat puzzled, "Junior Brother Sha, what's going on? Where's Master?"
"Master said he didn't feel like eating today, he's had an epiphany, and it seems like his cultivation level could break through!" Upon hearing this, Sha Wujing replied.
"Is that so, then Master has no fortune to taste it!" The words from Sha Wujing made Zhu Bajie chuckle heh-heh, feeling that it was Master's own bad luck not to taste his porridge.
"Monkey Brother, how about you have this bowl of porridge first?" Since Master wasn't there, naturally, in terms of status, the first bowl of porridge should still rightly go to the eldest disciple.
That's why Zhu Bajie carried the bowl of porridge over to Sun Wukong.
Without any hurry to take it, Sun Wukong just glanced down at the bowl of porridge before him and then his brows slightly furrowed. He sniffed the air and said, "Bajie, you say this porridge is the number one porridge in the world? Yet, I, Old Sun, am smelling something that seems like a burnt scent!"
"Monkey Brother, rest assured, although there was a bit of a mishap at the beginning, I, Old Pig, guarantee that this bowl of porridge is absolutely perfect! Try it first before you say anything else!" Sun Wukong's comment did not dent Zhu Bajie's confidence in the slightest. Patting his plump chest, Zhu Bajie assuredly made his promise.
"Well then, I, Old Sun, shall give it a try!" Although he was not very trusting of Zhu Bajie's culinary skills, Zhu Bajie's confident, chest-thumping demeanor wavered Sun Wukong's heart.
Perhaps, the porridge might really be good?
After a moment of thought, Sun Wukong nodded, received the bowl of porridge from Zhu Bajie, and tried a sip.
How should I put it? By adding water to cook at the last minute, it no longer resembled porridge at all; it just felt like water-soaked rice!
And that wasn't all. Aside from the complete lack of any thick texture in the porridge, with that sip, Sun Wukong could distinctly sense a burnt flavor exploding in his mouth.
"How is it? Monkey Brother, quite delicious, right!?" Seeing Sun Wukong's first attempt, Zhu Bajie, Sha Wujing, and even the White Dragon Horse next to them focused their eyes on Sun Wukong and asked.
"Bajie, have you tasted this porridge yourself? What do you think about its flavor?" Sun Wukong wanted to curse a few words, but not knowing exactly what to say, he restrained himself and asked Zhu Bajie.
"I, Old Pig, have certainly tasted it, and I think the flavor is fairly decent!" Zhu Bajie nodded affirmatively, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
"You pighead, as long as it's edible, you always think it's good, you're hardly picky, right?" Zhu Bajie's words made Sun Wukong secretly roll his eyes.
"Big Brother, how is it? How does the porridge made by our Second Brother taste?" Sun Wukong's internal thoughts, of course, were unknown to Sha Wujing, who at this moment widened his eyes in curiosity, asking Sun Wukong.
"Junior Brother Sha, you try it and see for yourself!" Sun Wukong, in a nonjudgmental manner, suggested Sha Wujing to have a taste.
"Alright, I'll give it a try as well!" The White Dragon Horse thought for a bit and likewise said.
"And you, Fish Demon, are in luck, you get to taste the porridge personally cooked by I, Old Pig!" Feeling a sense of achievement from cooking porridge for the first time, Zhu Bajie also called out to Benboba.
"Oh, alright, thank you, Elder Zhu!" Benboba nodded and followed to ladle out a bowl of porridge.
After each had taken a bowl of porridge, Sha Wujing and the others each took a big gulp.
With that gulp of porridge, the strong burnt taste made their facial expressions vary greatly.
A "put" sound.
Benboba, being more direct, spat out half a mouthful of the porridge he had just tasted.
"You Fish Demon, you sure do have quite the temper!" Zhu Bajie's face darkened after seeing the half mouthful of porridge sprayed out by Benboba and said with a displeased tone.
As the words fell, as if realizing something, Zhu Bajie said, "I get it now, you must find it tasteless just with porridge and no dishes, right? Fine, I, Old Pig, will go to the kitchen and stir-fry a couple of dishes!"
"Wait, Bajie, let's just leave it at that!" Sun Wukong hurriedly stopped Zhu Bajie as he was about to go and cook more.
"Don't worry, Monkey Brother, I am quite talented!" Zhu Bajie still wore a face full of confidence.
"No, that's your illusion!"
