Chapter 659: 658 Chapter Competing with Each Other

The shapes of the cookies varied greatly; some were cut out directly with molds, while others had very special shapes and were colorful.

Making these cookies was not as convenient as cutting them with molds. One could tell that a great deal of effort had been put into them. Just the fact that so many cakes could be made in only two days filled Sha Wujing with genuine admiration.

The two of them examined the pastries very carefully, looking at each one individually. Merely looking at the surface was not enough to satisfy them; they even inspected the entire 360-degree angle of each cake before considering it complete.

It was no simple task to look at over a hundred different pastries one by one, and they had only managed to see about half of them by the time Chen Nuo returned.

"You haven’t finished looking yet?" Chen Nuo opened the door and came in from outside, catching his disciple and prospective disciple gazing at a fondant cake.

Upon seeing Chen Nuo, Sun Wukong quickly said, "Master, this cake is just too beautiful, almost not like a cake at all. It looks like it’s made of clay, it’s so realistic!"

Chen Nuo’s fondant cake was modeled after a bird’s eye view of Chaos Residence. After completing several kinds of pastries, he found himself bored and not knowing what to make next, so he idly crafted a fondant cake.

Although fondant cakes are pleasing to the eye, they are mostly meant for decorative purposes. When it comes to taste, they might not be as delicious as other pastries.

Chen Nuo, however, hadn’t intended it to be eaten; he wanted to use the fondant cake to decorate his confectionery shop.

Once the pastries on the delivery machine started to be listed, Chen Nuo planned to create a unique pastry store at Chaos Residence. The fondant cake would then be perfect for decorating the new store. Once the pastry shop was up and running, the nearby bubble tea place could close, and bubble tea beverages and pastries would become independent categories.

"This thing is actually quite similar to clay sculpting," Chen Nuo explained, "except that the material used is just flour."

"So that’s how it is," Sun Wukong said, feeling a bit disappointed yet relieved, "I was thinking, with the cake looking so good, it must be especially delicious to eat. But then I thought, with the cake being this pretty, how could anyone bear to eat it? Hearing what you’ve said, Master, I’m both regretful and relieved."

Chen Nuo laughed, "I didn’t expect you to have so many thoughts in just that instant."

Sun Wukong chuckled, "It’s all because the cake you made, Master, is just too good-looking. Sha Wujing, don’t you think so?"

Sha Wujing nodded honestly; he had indeed been on the same wavelength as Sun Wukong just now. Such a beautiful cake must have taken a lot of effort to make; it really couldn’t be considered just a cake, but rather a work of art.

Sun Wukong glanced at Sha Wujing and saw him nod. His dislike for Sha Wujing diminished significantly.

This person was actually sincere, just not very articulate. If he were better at speaking, a lot of problems could have been avoided. Maybe not only Chen Nuo would have liked him, but Tian Peng and Sun Wukong too wouldn’t have found him so disagreeable.

"But making this cake really did take quite a lot of effort," Chen Nuo also said.

Fortunately, he had spent five thousand Merit Points to obtain craft skills from the system. Otherwise, the fondant cake might not have been possible to make. "If it were just eaten like that, it would indeed be too much of a pity."

"Right, Master, what were you doing just now?" Sun Wukong casually asked.

Chen Nuo didn’t think losing the magic artifact was a big deal, so he said, "There were still a lot of little lobsters left in the area where they appeared last time. I found a magic artifact and was preparing to use it to clean up the remaining little lobsters. I put it there and came back to deal with the dessert stuff. When I went back to find it, I discovered that someone had taken the magic artifact."

"Taken it?!" Sun Wukong exclaimed in shock, "No, Master, you put that thing there, how could you let someone else take it away?"

"That thing was just left there, without a name or restrictions. Presumably, some ordinary people came up the mountain and saw it; they must have thought it was just an ordinary object and took it away," Chen Nuo explained. "But anyway, if they don’t have mana, they can’t open it, so there’s no need to worry about ordinary people taking it and being able to open it."

Sun Wukong still didn’t think it was a trivial matter, despite Chen Nuo’s expression and tone making it seem like a very ordinary event.

"So what do we do? Master, did you set up any kind of tracking spell on it? That way, it won’t be too much trouble for us to find it," he suggested.

Of course, Chen Nuo hadn’t done so, and he planned to mention the situation to a few friends who were often in the mortal world. He would just tell them the general shape of the magic artifact, so they would keep an eye out for it while they were down there.

"I haven’t done that, but it’s just a low-tier artifact; it doesn’t really warrant a tracking spell," he remarked.

Sun Wukong felt somewhat relieved on hearing these words. He had assumed it was some very important magic artifact. Now understanding it was only a low-tier artifact, he could see why Chen Nuo was so nonchalant about it. Indeed, there was no need to go to great lengths to search for it if it was just a low-tier magic artifact.

"It’s just that if those little lobsters end up in the hands of ordinary people, that would be one thing, but it would be quite another if a demon or an Immortal Official got hold of them," Sun Wukong mused, recalling his own first impression of the little lobsters—truly memorable.

"I’ve already asked my friends to look out for the artifact while they’re in the mortal world," said Chen Nuo. "But after all, it was taken away by the mortals themselves. If they haven’t opened it, that’s the end of it. If they have opened it, well, then it’s not our responsibility."

Sun Wukong nodded in agreement, relieved they had plenty of little lobsters being farmed on the hill behind their place, and those were particularly plump, almost more than twice the size of those that grew in the wild.

They weren’t short on little lobsters, after all; it was just about dealing with those found locally.

"By the way, Master," Sun Wukong suddenly thought of something and began to speak, observing Chen Nuo’s expression, "it really is quite the coincidence."

"What is it?" Chen Nuo always found Sun Wukong’s statements a bit odd, wondering how his face managed to show such an expression—it seemed to have a slight hint of schadenfreude.

When Sun Wukong finally revealed what he’d been intending to say, Chen Nuo understood the meaning behind the hint of gloating on Sun Wukong’s face.

"I saw the order; Goddess Nuwa has made a reservation for tonight," Sun Wukong said with a smile. "And her orders are always for dine-in. Goddess Nuwa is really lucky, she will definitely like this dessert."

Hearing it was Nuwa, Chen Nuo felt a little apprehensive, though he couldn’t quite pinpoint the origin of his emotion. Nuwa indeed seemed different from the other guests.

Clearing his throat with a light cough, Chen Nuo maintained a calm demeanor, "We still don’t know what Lady Nuwa is going to order, but you’ve already decided for her. Well then, when she arrives, you’ll have to explain it to her yourself."
