Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 644 - 643 Bestow a Name
Chen Nuo weighed his words, "It’s like this, most of the guests at Chaos Residence are from the Immortal Clans, and the Immortal Clans and mortals are originally from the same root. Wearing this will affect the guests’ appetite at Chaos Residence."
The Water Demon thought about it and felt that Chen Nuo seemed to make sense. He nodded, removed the head from his neck, and found a place to put it properly.
After the Water Demon had put his head away, Chen Nuo still felt it was not enough.
Although he didn’t care much about the appearance of his employee, it still wasn’t good if they were too unkempt, at least like this with hair down to the ankles, and only one eye showing was completely unacceptable.
"Hold on, your hair also doesn’t pass, stand still and don’t move," Chen Nuo said.
The Water Demon obediently stood still. If someone had spoken to him like that before, he would have exploded with anger.
But this was different; he would be following this person from now on. They were like his provider of food and shelter. He couldn’t react as usual towards such benefactors, he could only listen to them.
Chen Nuo conjured a pair of scissors and then looked at the other party. He gestured approximately how much to cut, then waved over the Water Demon, "Come here, I’ll give your hair a cut. If you don’t tidy up, the customers will lose their appetite when they see you."
The Water Demon walked obediently over to Chen Nuo and waited for him to cut his hair.
Chen Nuo picked up the scissors and with swift snips, locks of hair fell with the sound of the scissors.
There had been nothing on the floor at first, but gradually, hair began to accumulate. As more and more hair fell, the Water Demon’s face began to be revealed.
After finishing the haircut, Chen Nuo wasn’t done yet. He spread his hand and condensed a razor with mana. He shaved off the Water Demon’s sideburns and beard as well, and at last, the Water Demon looked normal.
Without the covering of hair on his body, the Water Demon felt a lack of security, standing there rigidly, asking, "Shopkeeper Chen, is it okay now?"
Chen Nuo looked satisfied with his work, nodded and appraised, "Not bad, you do look much tidier. Later, when you put on the special work uniform at Chaos Residence, you won’t look much different from the other workers there."
At those words, the Water Demon paused, and then asked somewhat embarrassedly, "Are there other workers in the shop?"
"Yes, the one who fought you earlier is also one of our workers," Chen Nuo said. "But currently, none of the workers are on duty in the shop. I don’t restrict their movements. Some want to go out and venture on their own. Now, aside from a disciple of mine, there are no other workers."
Shopkeeper Chen seemed to be a genuinely good person, and he had even trimmed his hair and beard. The Water Demon hadn’t expected a boss to be so open-hearted, and now he truly wanted to follow him.
"Shopkeeper, I’ll go back with you. I don’t have any grand ambitions. I just want to make sure I can have enough to eat, sleep well, and live a good life," the Water Demon swiftly said.
"I said I would take you with me, and I will. Even if you really have some ambitions, I won’t interfere with them."
The Water Demon really wanted to follow him. Once Chen Nuo finished speaking, he didn’t linger any longer and took the Water Demon back to Chaos Residence.
The Water Demon was startled by the queue of people buying milk tea at the entrance and took a step back.
In the past, seeing one or two Immortals was enough to scare him. Now, seeing over a dozen all at once genuinely frightened him.
The Immortal Officials in line only paid attention to the queue in front of them and did not notice Chen Nuo and the Water Demon behind him.
Initially, they were very curious about Chen Nuo, but as they bought more milk tea and frequent run-ins occurred, their curiosity gradually faded.
Only Sun Wukong took notice of Chen Nuo; he immediately spotted the Water Demon following behind Chen Nuo.
But the Water Demon had already been transformed so thoroughly by Chen Nuo that at first, Sun Wukong didn’t recognize him as the Water Demon; he thought he was a guest of Chen Nuo.
"Master, you’re back!" Sun Wukong greeted Chen Nuo.
"Yes, I was busy. You take care of selling the milk tea," Chen Nuo said.
Grinning, Sun Wukong replied, "Don’t worry, Master. Old Sun is an expert at selling milk tea, you just attend to the guests. I’ll handle things over here."
The Water Demon paused upon hearing Sun Wukong’s words and then prepared to explain, "I am not... "
However, his voice was a bit quiet, audible only to Chen Nuo walking in front.
"Explain it to him after his shift. There are too many Immortal Officials outside right now, don’t reveal your identity."
Having heard Chen Nuo’s advice, the Water Demon felt it was very sensible and quickly nodded in agreement, following Chen Nuo’s steps without daring to say anything more.
He followed Chen Nuo into the interior of Chaos Residence, where Chen Nuo fetched a Chaos Residence employee’s uniform from the storeroom and handed it to the Water Demon.
"This is the work uniform for employees of Chaos Residence. From now on, it’ll be your work clothes. They’ve been enchanted with my special spells, so they won’t get dirty or damaged. Wear them with ease," said Chen Nuo.
The Water Demon accepted the uniform, which had only a faint scent of soapberry—a smell he hadn’t experienced for a thousand years. It made him feel very much at ease.
"Shopkeeper Chen, thank you. I really, truly thank you," the Water Demon said warmly, his eyes brimming as he prepared to kneel in gratitude.
In the thousands of years since his awakening, he had thought his heart had grown as cold as the waters of the Flowing Sand River. But unexpectedly, this man he had only just met had been so kind to him. He didn’t know how else to express his gratitude, except to continuously offer his thanks.
"There’s no need for thanks," Chen Nuo said as he reached out with mana to steady the Water Demon’s bending knees, "If you want to thank me, just work well at Chaos Residence. Show your gratitude with your actions. Don’t concern yourself with meaningless spoken courtesies."
The Water Demon took Chen Nuo’s words to heart, stood up straight, and bowed while holding the uniform. "Don’t worry, Shopkeeper Chen, I will definitely work hard at Chaos Residence!"
Chen Nuo nodded, "You..."
He had originally wanted the Water Demon to follow him to the kitchen as he still had many orders to process.
But after starting with "You," he realized that the Water Demon didn’t have a name yet and changed tack, asking, "What’s your name?"
"The Water Demon, having resided alone in the Flowing Sand River for three thousand years, had no companions and hence no need for a name," the Water Demon answered.
Chen Nuo had forgotten about that detail.
Indeed, as a solitary creature before, a name had been pointless to him.
However, now that he was at Chaos Residence, he certainly needed a name. It wouldn’t do to keep calling him Water Demon—it didn’t sound nice.
Seeing that Chen Nuo did not respond, the Water Demon quickly said, "Please, Shopkeeper Chen, bestow upon me a name. I will be forever grateful for this kindness."
Chen Nuo didn’t need any repayment for such a favor, but a name was still necessary. Although, he was too lazy to come up with a new one and decided to stick to the original name from the book.
"A name must consist of a family and a given name. Since you come from the Flowing Sand River, your surname shall be Sha, with the given name Wujing. I hope you can forget your past life as a demon in the Flowing Sand River and face your new life with a fresh start."
"Sha Wujing, Sha Wujing," the Water Demon murmured, then bowed to Chen Nuo, saying, "From now on, I am Sha Wujing. Sha Wujing thanks Shopkeeper Chen for this bestowed name!"
With the name settled, it was time for work. Chen Nuo used his mana to scan through the orders.
