Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 639 - 638: Chen Nuo Leaves the Chaos Residence
Mana could be used for transportation to any location, but the place must be one previously visited by oneself. If it is somewhere one hasn’t visited, the transportation would be less accurate.
This method is quite similar to opening a map in a game, but everything adheres to logic, which is a rather helpless current situation.
"Alright then," Chen Nuo didn’t blame Tian Peng.
It wasn’t Tian Peng’s fault. He was quite considerate about not rashly investigating the situation without knowing the monster’s details. After all, if any danger arose, it would be more troublesome to rescue than to probe.
Monk Sha is currently a powerful river demon in the Flowing Sand River who has devoured humans, numbering in the hundreds if not a thousand over the years. To him, Tian Peng’s cultivation is as mundane as that of an ordinary mortal, making confrontation impossible.
"I thought you would blame me."
Tian Peng had been bracing himself for Chen Nuo’s reprimand, but after a long wait, he did not hear the scolding he expected—only Chen Nuo’s indifferent approval.
This left Tian Peng confused; he had been expecting Chen Nuo to reprimand him for wasting time and was surprised that Chen Nuo said nothing of the sort.
"What’s there to blame you for? You did the right thing," Chen Nuo patted Tian Peng on the shoulder, "We must never act rashly without knowing the opponent’s strength. You did well to remember that, especially since I thought you would forget you’re mortal and go poking around before returning. It seems you haven’t lived these years among humans in vain."
Expecting criticism but receiving praise instead made Tian Peng feel quite bashful.
"Hehe, Shopkeeper, now you’ve made me somewhat embarrassed," Tian Peng scratched his head, "I know the general location; let’s go check that area first."
Chen Nuo nodded and proceeded with Tian Peng to search for the Flowing Sand River.
Although this is supposed to be a prairie, it is winter now. The grass on the prairie is sparse and patchy, appearing as though it’s balding in some places, while others are still covered in unmelted snow, hardly resembling a prairie at all—it’s far too barren.
No wonder the Turkic tribes attack the Great Tang frequently—the rich geographic environment of the Great Tang is exactly what the Turkic people yearn for. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
Agriculture is hardly suitable on the prairies; the conditions are too harsh. To have enough to eat, it’s hard not to covet the territories of neighboring countries.
If the problem of feeding the nomadic tribes could be solved, it would likely reduce many wars.
Thinking this, Chen Nuo laughed at himself mockingly, even if the problem were solved, what then? Solving hunger would merely lead to plenty of other issues.
Besides, even with mana at his disposal, he couldn’t solve everything. Just like now, even finding a place was difficult, let alone solving so many problems.
Merely walking was too troublesome, and finding directions was not easy. After traveling only a few miles, Chen Nuo became impatient.
He took a flying Magic Artifact out of the Silken Pouch and channeled Spiritual Power into it. The Magic Artifact carried Chen Nuo and Tian Peng slowly into the air.
"I’ve really been in the mortal world too long if I couldn’t even think of using a Magic Artifact like this. We still need to rely on you when we go out," Tian Peng flattered.
Chen Nuo, looking down at the terrain, glanced at Tian Peng, "You might find a better use for those flattery skills on the right path."
Tian Peng’s attempt at flattery fell flat, so he pursed his lips and stopped talking.
After flying for about the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, Chen Nuo finally spotted the river and steered the Magic Artifact towards it.
Once the location was determined, Chen Nuo sped up, and in the blink of an eye, they had reached the vicinity of the Flowing Sand River.
Chen Nuo put away his Magic Artifact and didn’t head straight to the edge of the Flowing Sand River but instead checked the topography of the area first.
The grassland was still in winter, and with the environment being very cold, there were hardly any wild grasses; however, this area looked like it was spring, with verdant grass and bushes growing wildly, forming a stark contrast to the surroundings of the grassland.
"Shopkeeper, is it really here? I feel like something is not quite right," Tian Peng said as he looked around. This place didn’t seem to harbor any monsters.
Logically speaking, places with monsters should be very strange, yet this area seemed to only be dangerous in its terrain. He couldn’t see anything else out of the ordinary.
"It is here," Chen Nuo replied.
"How can you be so sure? It’s as if you’ve been here before." Tian Peng looked at Chen Nuo. Earlier, they couldn’t even find the place, and now, upon arriving, he could immediately confirm it was the right spot. Not even Immortals were that prescient.
With a glance out of the corner of his eye at Tian Peng, and a slight lift of his chin, Chen Nuo headed towards the riverbank.
Confused, Tian Peng followed Chen Nuo’s gaze and finally understood what was going on.
There stood a stele with the three characters for "Flowing Sand River" carved into it in small seal script, filled in with red paint, making it very obvious. It was just that he hadn’t paid attention to it at first and had thus failed to see it.
Tian Peng suddenly realized the meaning behind the idiotic look Chen Nuo had given him earlier. He touched his own head, thinking to himself that he wasn’t an idiot; it was just that his vision wasn’t good.
Keeping up with Chen Nuo’s pace, the two reached the riverside of the Flowing Sand River.
From a distance, Tian Peng noticed that the river seemed to be reflecting light. It appeared to be brighter than the usual rivers, as if not water, but jewels were flowing in it.
"Shopkeeper, is there something in the river? Why do I feel that the river is so dazzling? It’s as if the river isn’t flowing with water, but with jewels," Tian Peng squinted as he looked into the river, but he saw nothing.
"There are no jewels," Chen Nuo took a container and scooped up a bit of river water, placing it in front of Tian Peng, "This is what you’re seeing."
"What is this?" Tian Peng took the container to look. The river water was ordinary, with nothing more than sand and water in it.
"It’s just like ordinary river water. Then why did it look so glaring from afar, yet there seems to be nothing when it’s scooped up?"
"It’s different, take a closer look," Chen Nuo prompted.
Upon hearing Chen Nuo’s words, Tian Peng lowered his head and looked carefully into the container again, "Shopkeeper, other than there being more sand in this river water than usual, I don’t see anything special."
After he finished speaking, he suddenly had a realization, "I know now, Shopkeeper!"
Chen Nuo thought he had finally noticed something different and nodded, waiting for him to point out the difference between the water of the Flowing Sand River and ordinary river water.
"It must be because I’m a mortal now. You, Shopkeeper, are even more formidable than Immortals. What you see in the river is not the same as what we mortals see. This is also the reason why so many mortals have lost their lives in this river."
Chen Nuo looked at Tian Peng curiously, wondering what kind of shocking statement he would make next, "And what is the reason?"
"It’s because they see the glow in the Flowing Sand River and assume there is something inside it. They go into the water to retrieve it, which is exactly what the river demon intends. As soon as they enter the water, the river demon eats them."
Tian Peng felt that what he said made a lot of sense. He reviewed his logic once more, still firmly believing it was absolutely correct!
