Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 638 - 637: Seeking Help at Chaos Residence Again
"It’s like this, General Chen had me bring you some soup. It’s cooled down now, not too cold and not too hot, just right to drink. Please have some quickly, so that I can finish my job—no, so that I can report back to Deputy General Chen," the soldier said.
Tian Peng smiled, picked up the bowl of soup from the soldier’s hand, and downed it in one gulp. He heavily placed the bowl back on the tray, "Okay, I’m done. You can go busy yourself now."
Seeing that he could finally complete his task, the soldier was delighted. He nodded and said yeah before happily carrying the bowl away.
Once the soldier left, Tian Peng’s expression changed in an instant.
He got up, made it appear as if someone was still sleeping in the bed, then left the bedside. With a surge of spiritual energy, Tian Peng quickly arrived at Xian Xian Residence.
"What’s the matter, Tian Peng? Didn’t you just leave? Why are you back again?" Sun Wukong was actually pleased to see Tian Peng, but his pride was still there, and naturally, he wouldn’t show it that easily.
Putting on an annoyed look, "I’m not saying this for no reason, but aren’t you too stupid? Can’t you handle the many matters in the mortal world? Or are you just too lazy to do anything?"
"Not at all, Mr. Monkey. I really do have something to ask you about this time," Tian Peng said, "Actually, being a little bit stupid is okay. Being stupid just highlights Mr. Monkey’s cleverness. After all, I’m inferior to you in every way, and I’ve gotten used to it."
Sun Wukong enjoyed flattery, but he still had to pretend otherwise.
"You’re going to be Master’s disciple in the future; you can’t always be this lazy. You need to solve problems on your own. Coming to me for every little thing—what’s that about? Otherwise, why don’t you stay here and drink bubble tea, and I’ll go to the mortal realm for you."
"Yes, Mr. Monkey, you’re right to chastise me. I’ll definitely heed your words. I promise this will be the last time. From now on, whatever happens, I’ll solve it myself. You can rest assured, Mr. Monkey," Tian Peng promised with a pat on his chest.
"That’s more like it," Sun Wukong said. "So, what’s the matter? If it’s some trifling issue, don’t bother. My ears ache."
"I wanted to discuss with you about a creature in the Flowing Sand River."
"What creature in the Flowing Sand River?" Sun Wukong hadn’t heard of this place, as he didn’t frequent the mortal realm, and he cared even less about mere creatures.
"I’m not really sure myself, I’ve only heard it from others." Tian Peng said, "I heard the Great General mention that there is a man-eating creature in the Flowing Sand River that’s already claimed several lives. Surely, this creature is no ordinary demon, and with my level of cultivation, I dare not rashly confront it, so I thought of coming up to consult."
Sun Wukong scratched his head; he really hadn’t heard about this. "Why don’t we ask Master then?"
There was no other choice. Tian Peng left the doorway and went inside to find Chen Nuo.
The orders for crayfish are increasing by the day, and the promotion hasn’t even ended yet. The Immortal Officials placing orders for crayfish are hurriedly doing so during the promo period, lest they miss out like what happened with the cold rabbit meat and spicy rabbit heads—when the time passed, no more waiting was entertained.
Chen Nuo was energetically preparing crayfish. As he looked up and saw Tian Peng approaching, he paused.
To be honest, seeing Tian Peng was beginning to make him wistful.
Every time Tian Peng came, it was about solving issues with species—the last but one time it was about rabbits, and the last time, crayfish. The orders for crayfish were still not finished, and here he came again.
Could it be that the borderlands also had some sort of problem? But that area is a grassland—what could be there on the grasslands?
After thinking for a bit, Chen Nuo realized that indeed there might be something. But it couldn’t possibly be locusts, right? Locusts are not something people typically want to eat. If they were really dealing with locusts, then this would be a problem beyond his abilities to resolve.
"Shopkeeper, are you busy?" Tian Han chuckled and asked.
Chen Nuo turned his head to glance at him, "You sure come often, I haven’t even finished cooking this dish and you’re already here.
"Time in Mount Fangcun is different from the mortal world, you see. I’ve been in the northwest for two days now," Tian Peng said.
Two days weren’t long, Chen Nuo gave him a sideways look, "What’s the matter with you now? It’s only been two days and you’ve run into another issue?"
"It’s not really a big issue," Tian Peng stated.
Seeing how Tian Peng downplayed it, it probably wasn’t anything serious. If it were a locust disaster, he wouldn’t be so calm. Since it wasn’t that, it couldn’t be much of a problem. "What happened this time?" Chen Nuo asked.
"There’s a Flowing Sand River at the border, and inside there is a monster that eats people," Tian Peng explained. "I heard that the monster has eaten a lot of people, so it must be a significant one. I thought if I could deal with this monster, maybe I could earn a lot of Merit Points. Who knows, I might even become an Immortal in one fell swoop."
Tian Peng grew more excited as he thought about it, especially since the Great General had described the monster as no ordinary being. If that were true, it’d be great. After all, with the help of Chaos Residence, he was sure he could subdue the monster. Was the path to becoming an Immortal still far off?
"Even if you do subdue this monster, it’s not certain you’ll become an Immortal," Chen Nuo interrupted Tian Peng’s dream.
When he mentioned the monster, Chen Nuo had no idea what it was. But as soon as Flowing Sand River and a man-eating monster came up, if Chen Nuo couldn’t guess what it was, he had no business being there.
The monster in Flowing Sand River was none other than Monk Sha, who had earlier been demoted to the mortal realm by the Jade Emperor and had since taken up residence in Flowing Sand River, relying on consuming human flesh to sustain himself and increase his Mana.
"Shopkeeper, it’s not fair to crush someone’s confidence like that," Tian Peng said, sounding hurt. "I’m serious. I encountered that monster at the border, and I truly believe it’s my opportunity to become an Immortal. That monster has really eaten a lot of people, and I believe that if only I subdue it, I will certainly become an Immortal."
"Dream on," Chen Nuo abruptly shattered Tian Peng’s fantasy, "An opportunity it may be, but it really might not be one for becoming an Immortal."
Tian Peng didn’t understand. "Why would you say that, Shopkeeper?"
"There’s no point explaining it to you now," Chen Nuo said, too lazy to elaborate.
The current timeline was all mixed up, but presumably, at this stage, Xuanzang had not yet started taking disciples and was probably still preaching in Chang’an, with some time left before he would begin recruiting followers.
"Aren’t your words just a hit to my self-esteem? Just when I felt like things were going well, you go and crush my hopes," Tian Peng expressed, feeling aggrieved without hearing Chen Nuo’s explanation.
"Where is this Flowing Sand River? Take me to meet that monster first," Chen Nuo said, overlooking Tian Peng’s grievances.
"I’ll take you there now," Tian Peng closed his eyes and transmitted the location of Flowing Sand River into Chen Nuo’s mind.
Chen Nuo activated Teleportation and arrived near the border, a hundred or two hundred li from Flowing Sand River.
"Where’s the river?" Chen Nuo looked around; the place didn’t seem like it would have a river.
"We aren’t there yet," Tian Peng admitted somewhat sheepishly, "Actually, I haven’t found the Flowing Sand River yet. When I asked our General about its location, he said it was here. To teleport, I can only bring you here first and then we can look for the river."
Mana might be useful, but it isn’t omnipotent.
