Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 491: Joking, It’s Only Human Nature
She indeed harbored secrets in her heart. The last time she had encountered a young girl at Chen Nuo’s, Chen Nuo told her it was his daughter, but she just couldn’t reconcile that with Chen Nuo’s timeline and was hesitant to ask more about it for fear of inappropriateness.
Perhaps she had looked over too many times, for even Sun Wukong, who had been busy competing in a drinking game, noticed, "Fairy Baihua, if you want to drink, drink; if you want to speak, speak. Just don’t keep things bottled up inside, it hurts me to watch you suffer."
"No, thank you for your concern, Chef Wukong, I’m perfectly fine," Fairy Baihua said with a smile.
Sun Wukong could tell that Fairy Baihua was lying, but he wasn’t yet familiar enough with her to make her speak the truth. He could only nod and return to his drinking competition.
After taking a couple of sips herself, Fairy Baihua watched as Chen Nuo and Yang Chan chatted amicably. She ultimately couldn’t hold back and asked, "Shopkeeper Chen, after you returned to Chaos Residence, did you leave your daughter in the mortal world?"
Yang Chan was stunned at Fairy Baihua’s words. Hesitant, she glanced between Fairy Baihua and Chen Nuo, "What daughter? Is she Shopkeeper Chen’s daughter or the neighbor’s girl? You must clarify such matters, Fairy Baihua, as Shopkeeper Chen’s reputation could be at stake."
"Since I brought it up, it means I’m certain of what I’m saying," Fairy Baihua insisted. "I’m asking about Shopkeeper Chen’s daughter. I saw her when I was last in the mortal realm."
Yang Chan felt dizzy, unable to grasp the meaning of Fairy Baihua’s words, "What daughter? I’m sorry, Fairy Baihua, I didn’t hear you clearly, nor did I understand. Could you please repeat that for me?"
"Shopkeeper Chen’s daughter, Yang Chan Fairy, don’t you know about this?" Seeing Yang Chan’s shocked expression, Fairy Baihua felt a prideful sense that she alone knew this secret and, with an uplifted tone, impatiently repeated herself to Yang Chan.
Now Yang Chan truly felt bewildered; she couldn’t understand how Shopkeeper Chen suddenly had a daughter out of nowhere,
She quickly turned to Chen Nuo, looking for a denial, "Shopkeeper Chen, you have a daughter?"
Chen Nuo exchanged a glance with Goddess Nuwa, sharing a sense of mischief as if everyone was in on the joke.
Chen Nuo nodded, "Yes, she’s almost twenty years old now. Since she’s a mortal, her age is counted by earthly standards." 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
If it were in the mortal realm, it certainly could be possible, after all, a mortal’s life is very fleeting to them, a day in heaven is a year on Earth.
Although she had known Chen Nuo for quite a long time, the possibility that Chen Nuo could have had a child in the mortal world was still there.
Yang Chan clenched her hands tightly, her knuckles turning white. She then turned her gaze back to Goddess Nuwa, "Goddess Nuwa, did you know about this?"
Goddess Nuwa nodded her head and then let out a soft sigh, "Of course, I knew about it. I just thought that you were also aware of this matter. It seems I am not the last to know after all."
Seeing Goddess Nuwa’s demeanor, Yang Chan was even more shocked.
It turned out Goddess Nuwa also knew about this affair. Her current serenity was probably because when she learned of it, she had already vented all her emotions.
But Yang Chan, just finding out about this in such a setting, was unable to show too much surprise or express her astonishment vocally.
After a few moments to collect herself, Yang Chan felt she could control her emotions and looked at Chen Nuo again, "So, your daughter is already that grown up. When did this happen, and is the lady mother also a mortal?"
Chen Nuo nodded, "It was some time ago, but, unfortunately, she passed away due to an accident."
The emotions inside Yang Chan grew even more complex than when she initially learned Goddess Nuwa also harbored feelings for Chen Nuo.
Chen Nuo already had a daughter, and his wife had passed away. Learning both of these facts at once, Yang Chan was truly on the verge of not being able to accept them.
After a long pause, Yang Chan finally asked with a pale face, "It truly is regrettable, but with your cultivation level, Shopkeeper Chen, how could your wife have..."
Chen Nuo sighed, then responded slowly, "It’s all my fault. I should have foreseen this, but I was concerned only with momentary happiness and neglected her well-being."
"Alas, we cultivators can no longer be considered ordinary people, and we shouldn’t be with ordinary mortals. But I still chose to be with her, and as a result, she died from the ingress of spiritual energy during childbirth. The blame is mine."
Yang Chan was somewhat dazed. She hadn’t known about this. Was it not just immortals who couldn’t be with mortals, but also cultivators who couldn’t be with them either?
But unlike the former, where the heaviest punishment is being demoted to a mortal for violating heavenly rules, does the latter really have to face death?
Goddess Nuwa looked at Chen Nuo with sympathy, "Let bygones be bygones, Shopkeeper Chen, don’t be sad. Everyone must look forward. You still have a wonderful life ahead of you not to be wasted, so don’t dwell on past affairs."
"Shopkeeper Chen, your daughter is still living a mortal’s life in the mortal realm. Why not bring her to the Mountain of Mind and Heart? There, without the mortal world’s complications, wouldn’t it be better for your daughter?" Yang Chan went on to ask.
Chen Nuo took a sip of wine to hide the smile on his lips, "Actually, I’ve thought the same, but when I recall my wife’s last wish, she hoped our daughter would live a happy life as a mortal. Although I very much wish for her to live on the Mountain of Mind and Heart, alas, I do not want to go against her mother’s last wish."
Yang Chan understood, "I see. Shopkeeper Chen, not only are you deeply loving, but you are also a man who keeps his promises. Surely your wife would be comforted to know this. However, since mortals must pass away eventually, aren’t you planning to find your wife again?"
Chen Nuo shook his head gently.
Yang Chan looked at him, feeling sad both for him and herself.
Now that Chen Nuo already had a daughter, she realized she had not even had a chance to express her own feelings to him. So, when would be the right time for her to express her feelings?
Moreover, now it wasn’t just about Chen Nuo accepting her; she had to make his nearly twenty-year-old daughter accept her too.
"Why not look for her?"
"She has not been reborn," Chen Nuo answered.
"Hasn’t been reborn? Could it be because of..." Yang Chan didn’t finish her sentence, for Chen Nuo had already mentioned the reason before.
Chen Nuo nodded, "Indeed, it’s for that reason."
She really didn’t know such a thing could happen. It seemed that forbidden love could subject both parties to punishment.
"That is truly regrettable." Yang Chan raised her cup, "Shopkeeper Chen, let’s have a toast. You still have hundreds, even tens of thousands of years ahead of you. I hope you can look forward and not be trapped by the days gone by."
"Thank you for your consolation, Yang Chan," Chen Nuo lifted his cup, "I will keep your words in mind."
The two then clinked cups once more.
Perhaps it was because Yang Chan’s reaction to discovering this news was so normal, Fairy Baihua had initially doubted the truthfulness of the matter. But after overhearing the conversation between Yang Chan and Chen Nuo, she came to fully believe that Chen Nuo indeed had a child.
