Chapter 504: Chapter 498: Please Don’t Die [Seeking Subscriptions and Monthly Tickets]_1

Sha Chen didn’t waste any more words with Zhenyuanzi. There was no need. Zhenyuanzi wouldn’t believe him, nor would he do as Sha Chen said. And Sha Chen had no obligation to tell Zhenyuanzi what to do, especially since he intended to withhold that information to get the Xuanyuan Sword for himself.

Sha Chen fell silent.

Hearing no response from Sha Chen, Zhenyuanzi called out again. But no matter how Zhenyuanzi called out or threatened, Sha Chen ignored him and offered no response whatsoever.

Zhenyuanzi became furious. He roared, he bellowed, he shouted furiously.

But it was all in vain.

Sha Chen still ignored him. Instead, he drank and enjoyed himself within the Flowing Sand River Cave, even finding time to have the White Bone Demon perform a dance.

Originally, with his divine vision, the White Bone Demon’s dance looked like a skeleton moving—quite unappealing and even nauseating.

But now, things were different. The White Bone Demon now had flesh and blood; she was a living person, so her dancing was somewhat pleasing to the eye.

Sha Chen wasn’t a true Cultivation fanatic who spent all his time meditating. He balanced work and relaxation. He would enjoy himself for a while, then continue his Cultivation, and that was precisely what he did.

Moreover, Zhenyuanzi was creating a racket outside and had even begun to forcefully attack the Flowing Sand River. If Sha Chen continued his Cultivation and something went awry, he wouldn’t be able to react in time.

With nothing else to do, he watched a beautiful woman dance and an old man make a scene.

Zhenyuanzi was creating a commotion in the Flowing Sand River; the Heavenly Earth Mirror blazed like burning heavens and boiling seas, even attempting to encapsulate the entire Flowing Sand River Cave within it.

Unfortunately, he failed in the end. The Flowing Sand River Cave seemed fused with the earth itself. Zhenyuanzi found he couldn’t even dig up the entire area to take the cave, lock, stock, and barrel. And he knew Sha Chen possessed many Magical Tools and was proficient in manipulating water, fire, wind, and thunder. If he trapped Sha Chen in the Heavenly Earth Mirror only for Sha Chen to then destroy Zhenyuanzi’s Heavenly Earth Mirror, he would be devastated beyond tears.

「On the shore.」

Jin Chanzi and his two companions watched with some embarrassment, remaining silent the whole time.

Only when Zhenyuanzi flew into a terrible rage did Jin Chanzi say, "I didn’t expect the old immortal to be so hot-tempered. I wonder which deity in the river has angered him."

Jinzha said, "The one in the river is a demoted heavenly general who once..."

He recounted Sha Chen’s past, hoping that Jin Chanzi would take his side and disparage Sha Chen.

But Jin Chanzi instead said, "So, he’s a god descended from the Heavenly Court! Indeed, his powers must span the heavens and the earth if even the old immortal can’t do anything to him."

"Amitabha, I find myself wanting to meet him now. Rebellious disciple, do you have a way?"

Jinzha’s face twitched. I’m already a Bodhisattva, and yet you still call me a rebellious disciple! This is too much.

Jinzha coughed and said, "I am Bodhisattva Hongfa, no longer the Holy Monk’s disciple. Please show some respect."

Jin Chanzi pretended not to understand and countered, "One day a teacher, forever a father. Whether you’re a Bodhisattva or not, I’m still your father."

Jinzha’s face twitched; he truly wanted to kill Jin Chanzi with a single slap. But he restrained himself.

With a stony face, he said, "You want to meet that demoted general? That wouldn’t be proper. He has committed nothing but evil here, causing outrage among gods and men alike. If you meet him, be careful he doesn’t eat you."

"Don’t you know that he created the Flowing Sand River and blocked your way on the Journey to the West? His intentions are most vile."

Jin Chanzi then said, "Nonsense. As you said before, the Flowing Sand River has existed for a long time. How could it be related to that demoted general who was banished to the mortal world more than four hundred years ago?" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

Jinzha hadn’t expected Jin Chanzi to be so articulate and, for a moment, was at a loss for words.

"Jinzha," Tianpeng chimed in from the side, "it seems you haven’t been taught enough lessons. Have you forgotten when you provoked Old Sha and he beat you until you were crying for your parents?"

Embarrassed by having his shortcomings exposed, Jinzha replied angrily, "Tianpeng, don’t go looking for trouble! You are a pilgrim on the Journey, you should stand with Buddhism!"

"Who said I was a pilgrim?" Tianpeng replied with a casual smile. "I was threatened into it before. Now, I’ve decided to quit."

"Who do you think you are?" Jinzha retorted coldly. "Can you just quit when you feel like it?"

Jin Chanzi said abruptly, "I never imagined Marshal Tianpeng to be a man of such noble character and untamed spirit! Since you don’t wish to join Buddhism, I naturally can’t force you. You may leave. From now on, I will undertake the Journey to the West alone."

"No, you, you, you..." Jinzha immediately objected, overwhelmed with shock and anger.

He had never imagined that Jin Chanzi would actually consider letting Tianpeng leave.

He exclaimed, "Tianpeng is a predestined pilgrim for the Journey to the West! He cannot just leave! He must participate!"

Jin Chanzi then scolded, "You are no longer my disciple; you have no right to dictate matters. Besides, Marshal Tianpeng, a man of such noble character, has already condescended to protect me for part of the journey. How can you still try to coerce him?"

Jinzha said, "I am a Bodhisattva of Buddhism, and I have authority over matters concerning the Journey to the West. Tianpeng is a fated pilgrim and has an affinity with Buddhism; he cannot be allowed to leave so easily."

"I have no affinity with you at all!" Tianpeng scoffed. "You coerced me into joining. If not for being forced, who would want to join you?"

He then bowed to Jin Chanzi and said, "Holy Monk, thank you for your understanding. I hope that one day, we can strive for an ideal together."

Jin Chanzi smiled and replied, "Amitabha, we will, we definitely will."

Jinzha thought they were discussing Buddhist Law, but both Tianpeng and Jin Chanzi knew they were actually talking about uniting under Sha Chen.

After bowing, Tianpeng was about to leave, but Jinzha would not let him go so easily and immediately blocked his path.

He barked, "You cannot leave! If you do, you’ll be betraying your master and ancestors, betraying Buddhism! Don’t blame me for being forceful then!"

"Jinzha," Tianpeng laughed coldly, "do you really think you can beat me? I could take you down in the time it takes to drink a cup of tea. Believe it or not?"

Jinzha snorted, feigning disdain, but in his heart, he knew it was true.

Tianpeng was indeed stronger than him. Previously, he and Old Turtle had besieged Tianpeng, and Old Turtle had even been killed in the process. Even Jinzha himself had been at a disadvantage. Had it not been for the help of a group of demons, he would have been defeated long ago.

Tianpeng’s Cultivation was a whole minor realm higher. He controlled many Divine Powers, and even his Magical Tools surpassed those Jinzha possessed. In every aspect, Tianpeng was stronger; to say he could defeat Jinzha within the time it takes to drink a cup of tea was actually an understatement.

"Even if you can defeat me, that doesn’t change the facts!" Jinzha snorted. "Leave here, abandon your role as a pilgrim, and you become an enemy of Buddhism!"

Jin Chanzi couldn’t stand it any longer. "Has Buddhism become a band of robbers?" he demanded. "I’ve already said he can leave, that we should part amicably. Forcing him like this—how are you any different from a robber?"

HISS.

Jinzha’s expression changed dramatically, and he was utterly shocked.

He frowned and scrutinized Jin Chanzi carefully.

"Jin Chanzi! You are a Holy Monk of our order, yet you slander Buddhism! You—you are utterly preposterous! Audaciously outrageous!"

He yelled and was about to discipline Jin Chanzi.

But Jin Chanzi remained unmoved. Instead, he stepped forward and said, "Buddha says all beings are equal. What difference is there between Buddha and me?"

"Scolding Buddha is like scolding myself. More importantly, your actions are indeed those of a robber! If you represent Buddhism, then you are tarnishing its name. You are the one being audaciously outrageous!"

Jinzha roared and slapped his palm down.

He was furious to the extreme. This Jin Chanzi was utterly sinful, deserving ten thousand deaths! Jinzha couldn’t tolerate him any longer; he had to teach him a lesson.

Moreover, he thought that with Tianpeng nearby, Tianpeng would surely intervene. Then he could use the opportunity to bind Tianpeng and Jin Chanzi together, forcing them to act as a team.

But he hadn’t expected Tianpeng to simply stand by and watch, with no intention of helping.

His palm descended, yet Jin Chanzi kept chattering incessantly, as if he would only stop at death.

Jinzha’s heart was in turmoil.

Then, the palm struck.

THUD.

Jin Chanzi lay in a pool of blood, eyes wide open, yet a faint smile touched the corners of his lips.

HISS.

Jinzha sucked in a sharp breath, a chill shooting from the soles of his feet to his heart.

He had actually, with his own hands, killed the reincarnated Jin Chanzi.

This crucial pilgrim, the ninth reincarnation destined for the Journey to the West, had been slain by his own hand.

THUMP.

Jinzha knelt on the ground, begging Jin Chanzi not to die.
