Chapter 59: Chapter 59 Skinning rabbits

[Mass release]

(You can skip this part if you want to, since it was only about how to skin the rabbit skilfully)

The rabbits, seeing the demon walking towards them, hugged each other. Their bodies were trembling, and fear was vivid in their eyes.

Arriving in front of them, Jeff glanced down. He stood tall as the rabbit looked at him like a god of death.

"You have lived long enough; it’s time to send you to paradise," Jeff said to the four with a kind smile.

Seeing his smile filled with cruelty, they really wanted to run, but they couldn’t since they were tied. Picking them up in the rope that attached the four of them.

Their vision turned upside down since Jeff carried them; he brought his axe and his stone knife as he navigated his way toward the river.

"I’m sorry, little fella. All of you will be the heroes in my stomach. Let’s become one so I can never forget the four of you," Jeff said to the four rabbits.

As he arrived at the river, Jeff gently set the rabbits down on a patch of grass near the water.

He then knelt beside them, his expression calm and thoughtful. He did not feel any pang of guilt but pity when he remembered how they treated him when he was catching them.

His pity disappeared since they mocked him, because this is literally the rules of the jungle, looking at the rabbits huddled close to one another.

He sighed softly, "I’m truly sorry," he murmured, his tone sincere.

"This isn’t something I enjoy, but it’s necessary. Your sacrifice will not be in vain" He said with a smile, he looks like a fucking murdered in their eyes.

Jeff then took a moment to steady himself, gripping his stone knife carefully. He followed what he had read in a survival guide.

Is that the most humane way to dispatch an animal to make it quick and minimize suffering. He didn’t want them to feel fear or pain in their final moments.

Since he was also to be blamed for killing these cute little rabbits, if it’s a boar, he can make it painful, but not for these cute little ones.

One by one, he picked up the rabbits, holding them gently yet firmly. He stroked their heads to calm them, murmuring softly, "You’ve been brave. Thank you."

The system watching this was staring at him and the rabbit with a dazed look; it was invisible, so he could not see it.

[This host is so weird] - The system murmured, [But I like it] - the system finished.

When the rabbits were calm, Jeff used his knife to sever the neck just behind the skull in a swift, precise motion.

The rabbit who had just calmed down convulsed as his eyes trembled. The method he used is often referred to as ’cervical dislocation.’

It was painless and instant death, ensuring the rabbits didn’t suffer. But from the way you look at it, the rabbit clearly looks like it was suffering from its last moment.

Their bodies went limp in his hands, and Jeff whispered a small thank you each time as though honoring their lives.

...

The system notified him as the river’s gentle flow muffled the sounds of the forest, giving the moment a strange sense of peace.

Once it was done, Jeff carefully laid the rabbits on a clean surface near the water. He took a deep breath, washing his hands and knife in the river as he collected his thoughts.

"You won’t be forgotten," he said quietly, his voice steady but tinged with resolve.

"You’re part of something bigger now," he muttered as he looked at his belly, packed with abs.

With that, he began preparing the rabbits for use; his mind focused on making the most of their sacrifice.

After that, he began his preparation. He then found some flat rock surfaces just close to the river water.

The place was clean since he needed to prepare them with proper hygiene. He then positioned the rabbit.

Its back has its limbs spread out to make it easier to access and work evenly. This position keeps the rabbit stable and prevents accidental cuts.

After that, he pinches the loose skin on the rabbit’s belly, just above the hind legs, before making a small incision.

Because this area has thinner skin, it is easier to cut without piercing the underlying muscles or organs.

Using the knife to make a shallow cut, he slices deep enough to separate the skin from the meat.

This shallow cut protects the meat and organs; piercing deeper increases the risk of spilling stomach contents or bile, which could spoil the meat.

"A glove peel it is," he muttered, his eyes focused, not allowing for any mistakes.

With that, Jeff carefully slices upward toward the chest and downward toward the hind legs. He expands the incision to create some spaces to work with, making it easier to peel the skin without tearing it.

He then began to loosen the skin as Jeff inserted his fingers under it, pulling that away from the meat while using the knife sparingly.

With this action of using his hands, he can minimize unnecessary cuts, preserving the hide for clothing and insulation.

He then began to peel downwards as he stared at his hind legs. He gripped the loosened skin and pulled it downward, working it off like a glove peel.

If you wonder why pulling downwards, it’s because it follows the natural structure of the rabbit’s anatomy to reduce efforts.

"Now it’s to remove the head and tail," Jeff said, looking at the dead rabbit’s head.

Its tongue was sticking out, and he began with its head as Jeff cut through the neck joint to remove it. When it was removed, it would be much easier to cleanly stretch the hide for drying later, of course.

His hands then caressed the tail as he sliced around the base of the tail, separating it cleanly. The tail is useless, so it can be discarded. Well, if he wants to keep it as an ornament, then it’s useful.

But who, in their right mind, to keep the tail of a bunny as an ornament? He then began to remove the limbs. As Jeff cuts through the joint at the ankles to remove the feet.

After that, he went into its hindleg and carefully separated the skin around the upper legs to ensure the hide came off cleanly.

When that was done, he examined the inside of the hide, scraping off any remaining flesh or fat. If you read the Chapter when he dried the boars, you will know the reason.

He then rinsed the hide in the river to remove some blood and debris. Jeff could just then make another drying framework.

I think the peg frame ground method is suitable for drying this, he thought moving on to the next step.

He then made another shallow cut as he carefully slices along the belly from the ribcage to the pelves, this is the opening allows him to access the internal organs.

After removing the internal organs, he extracts the liver, heart, and kidneys, separating them from the intestine and waste. If you wonder why the liver is kept, it’s because it is rich in nutrients and can be heated.

"Now it’s washing time," Jeff said as he thoroughly soaked the rabbit’s insides in river water.

He made sure to clean it properly, removing the blood and bacteria so it was safe to consume and cook.

"Now is the final step," Jeff stated as he inspected the meat.

He checks for any leftover fur or debris on the meat because if you don’t know, clean meat improves taste, so it’s essential.

When he was done separating the meat, fat, and hide, he nodded in satisfaction as the system notified him.

(If you wonder why the experience points he had gotten is high, that is because he made sure to fully utilize the rabbits body)

Looking at the remaining rabbits, he repeated the process of skinning them one by one until he was done. Then, as the familiar ding sounded, he cleaned them in the river.

Seeing the progress bar, he sighed. It would take him lots of time to fill the bar. So, for now, glancing at the sun, he saw it was darkening.

Carrying the prepared rabbit, he traveled back to the camp to cook it for their meal this night.
