Chapter 58: Chapter 58 Stopping him.

The other girls were also curious about how he knew everything. It seemed like he had a camera in his brain, taking pictures of everything.

"Yeah! Young captain, how can you possibly know so much about the history of the earth? It’s almost as if you’ve spent your youth buried in books at the library, soaking up every bit of knowledge!" Emma was equally amazed by his ability to grasp such complex information.

Jeff just smiled, "It’s actually not that great. That’s just because I’m somewhat interested in history. So when I’m bored, I sometimes read, and I was just in luck. I’ve read this kind of book, so that’s why I’m somewhat good but not really an expert." He said, neither arrogant nor humble.

He then remembered that back in the city, he was in the library reading lots of books on paleontology and evolution, such as "The Rise and Fall of Dinasours" by Steve Brusatte and "Life Through Time" by John A. Long.

Also, Prehistoric Ecosystem books like "The Princeton Field Guide to Dinosaurs" by Gregory S. Paul and General Science History. He had read lots of books concerning different authors. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

"But captain, that’s still not explanatory, that is, if you had a camera in your mind to store that. Reading the book is good, but absorbing its content and remembering the exact dates when they were extinct is not an easy task just because you feel bored. You are clearly a living archive," Layla mused, as her mouth was wide in awe.

Emma looked at him with interest. Her look was proud since her future man was very capable.

"Oh yeah, captain. I remember you said that this camp would be just our temporary shelter. Don’t tell me you planned to fight that..." Layla’s words were cut off as she was silent.

The worry in her tone was vivid. As she bit her lips and looked at him.

Hearing what she said, they remembered his story about the cave where he received those injuries.

"Hey, young man, don’t tell me you are still planning to take that cave and risk yourself," Charlotte said, her gaze narrowing as she looked at him seriously.

"Wait, don’t tell me that is the reason why you built those weapons. Young captain, do you really have that in mind?" Emma said, her eyes looking at him anxiously.

The worry in her heart was heavy since, from that encounter, he was injured. What would happen if he did not come back alive?

Ariana and Jessica were also worried. Both of them looked at him and waited for the answer.

Jeff saw the different expressions on their faces, but their feelings were the same: worry and concern.

"We have no choice. Living here in an open area was supposed to be okay. But it would be dangerous if any of those extinct animals found us living here, so that’s why the cave is a good site for shelter. As long as we make some preparations and defenses, it will be much easier to survive and live our lives there." He explained, but they did not accept his words.

"But is it worth it to risk your life? Look at your injuries. What would happen if you fought it back again and killed yourself?" Charlotte bellowed, pointing at the injured arm.

Jeff did not say anything since the risk of getting injured or dying was there, but with the system, he was confident that he could put up a fight until he could finally kill it.

Even if there was no system and mission, he still had to risk it since it was the perfect permanent shelter for them.

Seeing Jeff being silent, looking at Charlotte in a daze. He then opened his mouth to respond.

"It’s worth it, but I’m strong and confident. I’m filled with tricks, and as long as I don’t engage in close combat, I can still escape, but getting injured from that process still had some possibility."

"Then why can’t we just camp close to the beach? We can’t let you take that risk to provide good shelter. As long as we are far from the centralized area, then we can be safe with no loss," Charlotte argued, still not agreeing with him.

Emma is also not in the mood to tease Charlotte for acting like a wife cause she also does not want him to go back in and fight that lizard.

The other three girls also agreed with Charlott’s words, but Jeff took a deep sigh.

They must have forgotten what he told them back at the beach, and the reasons why living there was a bad idea.

His was gaze steady as he met Charlotte’s worried eyes. "I know, I get it, why you’re saying that, but camping near the beach isn’t as safe as it seems. Didn’t we move away from there?" he reminded them.

"First, there’s the weather. The beach is exposed to strong winds, especially during storms or high tides. If we camped there, our shelter could be destroyed, leaving us with nowhere to hide. And if the tide rises unexpectedly, it could flood our camp and ruin everything—our supplies, our fire, everything." he reminded them again with a calm face.

He paused, and seeing her silent look filled with unsatisfaction, he continued, "Second, the beach makes us easy targets. Any predators or hostile animals that wander to the shore can spot us from a distance, and we have no natural cover to protect ourselves. At least inland, we can use the trees and terrain to stay hidden. Don’t you remember those footprints when we woke up, and how I stayed up all night to light the fire?"

Finally, he added, "And think about resources. On the beach, there’s no fresh water, no solid wood for building, and no real food source except for fish, crabs, and other marine animals. We’d constantly have to leave the camp to gather supplies, which puts us at risk every time. But if we secure a permanent shelter inland, we’ll have access to everything we need likemwater, wood, and food—all in one place."

He leaned back slightly, his expression softening. "I know it’s risky, but having a safe, permanent base inland is worth the effort. We can’t keep living day by day, moving constantly. We need a place where we can survive long-term."

"Hmph, I still don’t agree with you," Charlotte snorted, still unconvinced.

"Me too," Jessica raised a voice.

"Me three," - Ariana.

"Me four," - Layla.

"Don’t forget me as well; I don’t agree with this," Emma voiced out.

Jeff felt sad hearing them still arguing with him. He did his best to explain, but all of them ganged up on him.

"Convincing a girl is really hard," he exclaimed inwardly.

He looked at them one by one, their expression showed their stance that they will never agree.

"I’m sorry, but I disagree with all of you since I still have to do it no matter the cost," he said, his stance as well, his gaze firmly looking at all of them.

"Since I still have an active mission, and the system assigned that to increase my motivation in choosing that as my permanent shelter, I’m sorry, but the reward is worth the risk," he muttered, below his breath.

Hearing him speak up, their faces were red in anger. Charlotte, whose good will had been rejected, looked annoyed, as she just glared at him, not knowing how to respond to his words now.

She couldn’t force him from his look; she knew that she could not stop the young man anymore, but she had to find a way.

Emma was also having this kind of idea, looking at Jeff with worry and trying to come up with a plan to stop him.

While the trio were in deep thought, looking for good words to convince Jeff to stay.

Jeff, having a hard time from the gazes that they are giving him, decided to end the conversation here.

"Look, it’s about to strike nighttime. Let’s prepare our dinner early this time so we can all rest," he muttered to the group, but he was received with a silent stare and a broken smile.

He stood up and began to make a fire, but before that, he checked on it.

And seeing that there’s residual heat in the ashes, he added some small twigs and some dried grass directly on that ember.

He then gently blew on the embers to provide oxygen and reignite a flame. When it caught fire, he gradually added some larger sticks, making the fire burn even more.

When the fire was made, Jeff went to the side and saw the rabbits with their hindlegs tied looking at them.

They really loved seeing the drama unfold, as they whispered through each other like ’Marites’ other known as a gossiper.

Seeing Jeff walking towards them, they know that the real bloody drama is going to unfold.
