Chapter 117: Doomed

Midas was surprised the young man fell, but what caught his attention more was the coconut shell the guy had placed on the ground.

’Why did he choose to show that above all else?’ He thought, instantly glancing back at Gool, ’I see... it might be an antidote.’

He knelt down beside the coconut, picking it up and peering inside a small hole made on its surface.

’There’s definitely some sort of liquid in there that isn’t coconut water.’ He thought, glancing toward the young man’s unconscious body, "Check his vitals! Let me know what’s wrong with him." He ordered before turning and making his way toward Gool.

Mosquitos in the nearby area neared, two floating ahead of the rest and beginning to check on Leon’s vitals.

His heart was still beating, but barely. It beat in odd, irregular patterns.

"He isn’t doing so good..."

"It seems he doesn’t have much longer left to live."

"What did he go through?"

"How could he be in such a state?"

Mosquitos murmured amongst each other about the young man’s state.

Midas, on the other hand, knelt down beside Gool and sat him up against the pillar.

’Tsk... I didn’t know why Gool was in this situation, but venom or poison would be a good explanation. His body looked deceased at first, but he’s still alive. Only a poison could drain the life force from a being this quickly and dramatically. A wound would have taken his life by now, and him catching a random disease isn’t very likely.’ He thought to himself, looking at the coconut shell.

’I have no other choice but to risk feeding him this, even though it may be a poison itself. Gool likely doesn’t even have a day left to live, listening to how weakly his heart is beating. Looking at the context of the situation, it would make sense that the unconscious person over there was bringing him an antidote, but I still don’t know the whole picture.’ He ground his teeth slightly with frustration.

Then, he swooped the coconut shell closer, allowing Gool to begin drinking the liquid within.

It was a slow and frustrating process, having to wait for the viscous substance to finally trickle down his throat.

In the end, however, Gool’s body shone with a vibrant white light. It was like his figure was outlined for a second.

Being near him, Midas felt like the goblin was surrounded by a thin and cool breeze.

The next second, the effect disappeared, and Gool returned to normal. However, he looked to have been completely healed! 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

His malnourishment was erased, and his wrinkles had stretched tighter! No longer did he look like he was on the brink of death. Instead, he resembled his normal self.

Midas felt a wave of relief, ’Nice!’ He thought, a smile appearing on his face.

Gool’s eyes slowly opened, noticing Midas kneeling a few feet in front of him.

A smile appeared on the goblin’s face. "I... am alive to see your face for one more day, Midas." He said, nearly tearing up.

After all, Gool was not unconscious during these multiple weeks. From the very beginning till the end, Gool was stuck in a comatose state where he was still conscious and able to think.

He could hear the sounds around him. Feel the cold air of every passing night. The only thing that protected him was the fact that he was under the pillars.

During this state, thoughts of never being able to see Midas and everyone else again replayed in his mind over and over again. He went through stages of despair and grief.

’Finally...’ Gool’s eyes moistened further, ’It seems that the universe has not given up on me yet!’

"I’m alive!" He shouted, jumping to his feet and laughing wholeheartedly.

The mosquitoes had amused reactions, all pleasantly surprised.

Midas smiled widely, simply happy that Gool was okay.

Then, his smile erased as he glanced toward Leon.

Gool turned as well, his smile also lessening.

"H-him! He must have gotten the antidote for me to get healed, right!?" Gool shouted, running over Leon’s body.

"Shoot! It looks like he’s badly affected by the poison air in those caves..." Gool said, confusing Midas and the others slightly. "He must have spent almost all of the three weeks inside the caves to have been damaged to such a degree, even with his powers, I observed! The poison cloud of the Death Spike Arachnid works differently than even its own poison... It is a far slower killer, but a definite one. It takes months, up to a year or two for someone, or something to die from it." He said, worried and also astounded.

"Is there no antidote?" Midas asked as he walked forward, "This guy sacrificed so much to save you... I won’t let him die in front of my eyes without doing anything about it!" He firmly stated.

Gool’s eyes widened, ’W-wow... these two are pretty similar.’ He thought. His face turned grim as he began to shake his head no.

Midas’s eyes lost their flicker. "No antidote... whatsoever?" He asked, at a loss.

"No... I’m afraid there exists no antidote that cures the poison cloud of such a deadly beast." Gool said, causing Midas’s face to darken further. "However, this is no ordinary human. He possessed an immense energy that was able to defeat a high Aspect Beast Tier creature with ease. With it... he has a chance to potentially battle with the disease brought on by the poison cloud." Gool stated with furrowed brows.

"Hmm... take him back to the city. And when you go there, tell Dorhal the exact location of the Death Spike Arachnid beast cove. He will go handle those insects. I don’t want to risk another life being taken. These spiders seem to have an almost undefeatable venom." Midas said with a serious tone.

Gool was shocked for a second, "D-Dorhal!?" He shouted, but quickly obliged, "Well, with his Absolute Wall, he can easily defeat that place unharmed, if I were to guess." He smirked.

...

Dorhal arrived at the split of two hills that stood out from the rest of the scenery.

"This must be the place..." He said, cracking his knuckles.
